Bio:

W.E.T is the collaboration between Jeff Scott Soto, Erik Mårtensson, and Robert Säll. The name of the band is formed from the first letter from which each band the band had played with: Work Of Art, Eclipse, and Talisman. This was the last album to feature Marcel Jacob, who died that year the project was completed. In 2013, W.E.T. released their sophomore album RISE UP on the 22nd of February on Frontiers Records. Whereas the first album already had pre-written material by Erik Mårtensson and Robert Säll, this one features all of the band members contributing to the song writing. In December 2012, the first single from the album called "Learn To Live Again" was released and a second single "Love Heals" was released in January 2013. Both singles have had music videos shot for them and both have been released and can be viewed on the YouTube channel of Frontiers Records. On January 17, 2013, W.E.T. played a pre-release show in Stockholm, Sweden to promote the album. During the show they played songs from RISE UP as well as the debut album from 2009. They also played two Talisman songs as well as one song each from Eclipse and Work of Art. The Eclipse song was "Bleed & Scream" which was sung by Erik Mårtensson and the Work Of Art song was "The Great Fall" where the band were joined by Lars Säfsund who is the lead singer for Work Of Art. The show was filmed and recorded for a live CD and DVD which will be released sometime in 2013. Bonus tracks were recorded for the album and will be released on the CD version of the Live in Stockholm show as stated by Jeff Scott Soto in a recent interview. The album debuted at #22 on Swedish chart, and at # 68 on Swiss.ONE LIVE - IN STOCKHOLM is the first live CD & DVD released by W.E.T. on Frontiers Records and will be available in February 2014. The show was filmed and recorded on the 17th of January 2013 at the Debaser Club in Stockholm, Sweden and features performances of songs from the debut album, the sophomore release RISE UP and songs from the band Talisman, Eclipse and Work of Art. The live show will be packaged as a digipak which will contain both the CD and the DVD version which will both contain bonus content including 2 unreleased studio tracks from the RISE UP sessions on the CD and music videos for the singles 'Learn to Live Again' and 'Love Heals' on the DVD.

Album:

Members of three different bands got together to make up the acronym W.E.T. – Robert Säll (keyboards and guitar) from Work of Art, Erik Mårtensson (guitar, bass, and more), from Eclipse, and vocalist Jeff Scott Soto from Talisman. For the band’s second album, they’ve also added drummer Robban Bäck and Magnus Henriksson, both from Eclipse. Seeing the lineup, I figured I was in for some well-made melodic rock with great vocals, and I was right, except that this is melodic rock that flashes a harder edge than I expected – and I have to say I like that surprise a lot.The album has the clear, glistening sound that defines a lot of Swedish melodic rock productions, but the sharp guitar work, and Soto’s voice adds some luscious warmth to the sound on some tracks, and some real fiery heat on others. As I’ve confessed in previous reviews, I have a terrible, terrible soft spot for good vocals – it’s almost a condition of some kind. Yes, I fall for guitars, rumbly bass-lines and slamming drums as well, but put a good voice in and I’m pretty much done for. And while the entire band wields some massive skills, W.E.T.’s real edge is in the vocal department – simply because Jeff Scott Soto has some amazing pipes. Listen up people, this is what a real singer sounds like, one with a truly powerful voice that can bring the rock like nobody’s business, but also be caressing and gentle enough to give you goose-bumps.WETBand.Pair those pipes up with this band of Swedes, and you get something rather exceptional. The skill and power of the performances here are occasionally breathtaking – not on every track maybe, but when it all comes together for these guys it is truly something to behold. There are a lot of those kinds of tracks on “Rise Up”, starting off with “Walk Away”, which has that summery, sing along in the car feel to of the best kind of melodic rock. It’s there too on “Learn to Live Again”, a duet with Mårtensson and Soto, and “Rise Up” which flaunts W.E.T.’s harder and heavier power, and just flies with the soaring guitars.“Love Heals” is one of the best tracks here, a dark and glistening power-ballad with some great guitars shining through, and “On The Run” is another keeper, with the band going heavier and harder again, the guitars screaming, the vocals strong and heartfelt.“Rise Up” is a finely crafted piece of hard and tasty melodic rock goodness. The level of craftsmanship is top-notch from start to finish, and with a vocalist like Soto elevating things just that much more, it’s an album that’ll fit right into your summer.

Line-Up:

Jeff Scott Soto – vocals
Robert Säll - guitar and keyboards
Erik Mårtensson - rhythm guitar, bass, keyboards
Magnus Henriksson - guitars
Robban Back - drums

Album:

W.E.T., the melodic hard rock super-band created around Erik Mårtensson (Eclipse), Jeff Scott Soto (Talisman) and Robert Säll (Work Of Art), will release their new album "Earthrage" on March 23rd via Frontiers Music, with this Japanese Edition (plus bonus track) to be appeared tomorrow.New music from W.E.T. comes along all too rarely. "Earthrage" is just the third album from the Swedish-American trio in a decade, and it’s five years since the release of previous album Rise Up.Some serious excitement greets the arrival of "Earthrage", and luckily it’s deserved. Perhaps due to the involvement of singer Jeff Scott Soto, W.E.T. are several notches weightier than the Scandi-AOR of keyboard player Robert Säll’s main group Work Of Art, while multi-instrumentalist Erik Mårtensson of Eclipse has never been shy of admitting his love of 1987-era Whitesnake.'Watch The Fire' kicks things off in magnificent fashion, and 'Kings On Thunder Road', 'Urgent' and 'The Burning Pain Of Love' are hook-laden and rarely less than triumphant, ementing the band’s position top acts in the current Melodic Hard Rock scene. It’s an album packed with straightforward, melodic hard rock that is easy on the ears, but packs just enough punch so that it may catch the attention of those who like their music a little heavier. This is all underscored by a lush production job that is slick, warm and vibrant, resulting in an accessible album that is teeming with energy. There aren’t many truly guitar driven songs, but it is for the greater good, as axeman and producer Mårtensson knows the value each member brings to the group, finding a perfect balance between keyboards and guitars. Some of the hooks (and believe me, there are a lot of them, most of which are incredible) a very commercial - just check the arena-ready ballad 'Heart Is on the Line' comes to mind), but W.E.T’s sound, for the most part, while melodic, it's pretty muscular.W.E.T. did it again. The songs are well written and memorable, the performances stellar and production dynamic and bursting with life. This may be a mere side project in the grander scheme of things, but it is clear that all members take W.E.T seriously. It is this attitude that has helped to cultivate their standing in the melodic hard rock community, and I’ve no doubt that this new CD will cement their place as one of the best acts in the genre.Don’t give it a miss, W.E.T. "Earthrage" is F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.

Album:

Much to the delight of melodic rock fans around the globe, W.E.T. has announced the release of a fourth album "Retransmission". Core members Jeff Scott Soto, Erik Mårtensson and Robert Säll deliver another astounding album that will surely be a contender for melodic rock album of the year 2021. W.E.T. truly epitomizes what melodic rock has become in the new decade. The key element at the foundation of W.E.T. has always been to create a modern melodic hard rock sound that will drive the genre into the future. Combining powerhouse rhythms and top-notch production, the music is equally classic and contemporary. "Retransmission" is nothing else than an absolute milestone, which is well in keeping with the tradition established by the three amazing records that have preceded this one. Starting with a genre-defining self-titled debut, Robert Säll (the 'W' from Work Of Art), Erik Mårtensson (the 'E' from Eclipse) and Jeff Scott Soto (the 'T' from Talisman) accepted the daunting task to give that debut a follow-up, "Rise Up". After that stellar follow-up, third opus "Earthrage" cemented a legacy of music which will stand the test of time.

Album:

Fans of all things European melodic rock are going to love W.E.T. This acronym represents the bands, and individual artists, represented in this new project for Frontiers records which includes Robert Sall, guitarist of Work of Art, Erik Martensson of Eclipse and Jeff Scott Soto, singer of Talisman. Uniting two of the most prolific and promising songwriters with the immense vocal talent of Soto will have some whispering 'super group' for a new arena age. They might not be far from the truth, as Soto has commented on the project, "Quite simply, this is the Journey album that could have been had I continued with them!" Wow! That's quite a statement to make, but the W.E.T. debut backs up the promise. From first to last W.E.T. is a powerhouse of melodic rock. Song writing and music composition is more than ambitious, and representative of a time when the power of melody, a good hook or two, and a rousing chorus defined a great song. Jeff Scott Soto goes above and beyond the call with nearly immaculate tone and pacing on every song. Many songs simply tower with that huge arena rock sound that reveals pure talent and enthusiasm. To hear what I mean, listen for One Love, Brothers In Arms, Comes Down Like Rain (gigantic!), or Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is. And these are only the first highlights as you will want to spin this disc several times for full effect. There's a bit of redundancy inherent in classic European melodic rock as you travel through this debut, but the songs are so well-crafted and breathtaking you probably won't notice it. Strongly recommended.
