Info:

FORMED IN 2009, FIVE GUYS WHO PLAY HARD, LOUD, ROCK N ROLL."FIRE IT UP" - FIRST OFFICIAL RELEASE AVAILABLE NOW, 10 TRACKS OF HARD ROCK GOODNESS THE WAY MAMMA USED TO MAKE.Some Words..."They sounded really good – like all the heavy, rock n roll gods of the last few years rolled into one, young, good-looking, five piece. They were Saxon and Motorhead, Megadeth and Metallica. Each chorus was epic. Each guitar solo was gripping. Each song was a testament to how versatile the band was" - Get Yer Rock Out '2013 Live Review'"Massive Wagons are a genuine rock and roll band: anyone who isn't prepared to turn up to eleven should probably back away now" - Rock Scene "The choruses are huge, the riffs massive and every part gels so well. They are a band, that musicians should take heed of. They know how to hook the listener from the word go, making each moment unique, diverse and freaking epic" – Planet Mosh "Massive Wagons provide the kind of rock n roll thats equally hard and heavy as it is versatile. Pure no nonsense rock n roll with a lethal injection of metal" – Rock Productions Enterprize "What do they sound like? Think Saxon without all the twiddly bits, Black Spiders for the fun, Motorhead for the heaviness and AC/DC for the awesome tunes and you've got Massive Wagons" – Get Your Rock Out 'Album Review' "There was a strong feeling that you were watching something talented and a little part of me was wishing someone to discover these guys quickly so I can say in years to come, "I remember seeing these guys in a little pub..." - Intermission Music "No girly lyrics here either, but a snapshot of life in a modern day rock band" – Some Geezer On Amazon

Bio:

By some weird fate of nature, call it a cosmic catastrophe, call it an interplanetary galactic alignment or some such cack and nonsense, but If you’re reading this then you’ve arrived here somehow and no doubt you’re wanting to know a little about the boys, the band, and the music of Massive Wagons! I hope so anyway, cos that’s whats gonna happen! Its quite simple really, 5 purveyors of hard and heavy rock and roll! No fanciful tales, no from the ashes bullshit, absolutely no gutter to glory cobblers, its as plain as the spots on your nose, proper pals who play proper music for real rock fans. Formed in 2009 the guys wasted no time hitting the ground running, gig after gig, a relentless attitude to playing live, armed with a set of songs some reviewers remarked were “written with their hearts on their sleeves” the Wagons played everywhere, every shithole, nightclub, rock boozer, biker bar, up and down the country, over and over again, taking pride in crafting a live performance they wanted more than anything to be unrivalled and slowly but surely picking up more and more hardcore fans along the way, hamlets to villages, towns to cities more listened and more followed creating a real buzz among each scene they encountered.Fire It Up, the Wagons debut full length album was met with critical acclaim, “the songs are chunkier than a kit-kat chunky being eaten by the worlds fattest man!!” Planet Mosh stated loudly!! now I aint entirely sure what that means exactly, means they are chunky I guess, but they go on to say “if you don’t like Massive Wagons then get the hell off this planet” and that I can get my head round, digest and regurgitate with pride!Live show after live show, knuckled down, writing hard, gigging harder, opportunities arose for the guys and over the last 2 years they have been asked to be a part of some truly great events, events the Wagons have admired and longed to be a part of, Hard Rock Hell, Bloodstock, and Steelhouse most recently, lining up alongside the bands peers, influences and idols, things really kicking into overdrive on the live scene followed up by trips abroad to play in Ibiza, and to the legendary Diamond Rock Club, Ireland, to support label mates the Screaming Eagles at their album launch event.Fight The System, the guys follow up full length album was released July 2014 through Off Yer Rocka recordings, a label which after much discussion and thought was deemed to be the perfect outlet for what was to be recorded, 11 tracks “containing some of the downright dirtiest, downright ballsiest hard rock anthems of the year”(My Global Mind)…”With an intoxicating selection of songs, Fight The System is not only the most solid work Massive Wagons have produced to date but shines brightly enough to be that seminal album that could well be a future classic”(Dazzle Rebel,TBFM)… With 2 solid albums under their belts and a host of respected stages graced the Wagons just keep on rollin……And so to the present, the current situation, STILL the same lineup, STILL the same live chemistry, and STILL the same hunger and desire to succeed, best mates writing and playing rock music as hard as ever, gigs lined up later in the year at Hard Rock Hell 2015, main stage appearance, Legends of Rock ‘The Originals’ alongside Nazareth, Uli Jon Roth, The Electric Boys and more, and plenty other shows to melt the faces of this awesome hard rock loving nation!!

Album:

Hot on the heels of their new single ‘Tokyo’ Massive Wagons drop their 4th album ‘Welcome To The World‘ April 29th.The album kicks in with ‘Nails’ which is probably the hardest track MW have EVER done. A real mosh pit of a track. There’s even some tracks that would sound HUGE on the radio, ‘Tokyo’, ‘Ratio’, (as long as the expletives are disguised obviously). There’s even a ballad in the form of the track ‘Aeroplane’.The closer ‘Fee Fi Fo Fum’ brings the album full circle with another mosher of a tune.Adam Thistlethwaites guitar playing & lead sound has improved exponentially. Baz’s voice is coming into its own, Alex Thistlthewaites drums pound like a muthafucka, Bowz bass rumbles like thunder, as for Carl’s guitar sound rounds out the collective nicely. You can tell that the band have a had a heavier hand in production. This is so much closer to the bands live sound than ever before. It’s as diverse & complex as a WRC rally stage.Adam has this to say about this opus: “Our sound has always drawn on many different influences from classic rock to AOR to heavy blues and prog. Those influences are deliberately more polarised from track to track on this album. We love to be able to morph from highly accessible rock to deeper cuts.”I have to completely agree this album really does morph into something quite special.‘Shit, Sweat, Death’ is a firm favourite. It’s a full on & not giving a flying fuck rock monster with a country twist. This is the album that should catapult Massive Wagons into the stratosphere as this really is their best album to date. Catch them on tour from the 14th April. For fans of, Black Stone Cherry, Blackberry Smoke, AC/DC.Released through Off Yer Rocka Recordings 29th April & available from al the usual outlets.

Album:

Massive Wagons are indeed massive, in their hometown of Carnforth in the northwest of England. So much so, that their loyal band of followers organized a huge mural of the cover of their forthcoming album, Full Nelson to be painted on a wall in the nearby town of Lancaster. In hearing the record I’m not surprised. This album is brim-full of top quality tracks. It rocks, it rolls, has variety, emotion and, in no small quantity, intelligence.Full Nelson is the band’s fourth full-length album, following on from Fire It Up (2012), Fight the System (2014) and Welcome to the World (2016) and will be available from August 10, 2018, on Earache Records. We start with “Under No Illusion”, and what a start it is. “We’re singing to you, sing it back to me” implores frontman Baz Mills and that’s all I want to do during this opening rocker, which lays down an impressive marker for the rest of the album.Compare and contrast. Great job.“China Plates” follows which is a damning indictment of Facebook but is said in such an intelligent way. And it rocks, too, so something for everybody there. This is also the first track where I notice Baz’s vocal similarity to Dexter Holland of The Offspring. Plenty of power in there. Check out the lyric video below. There’s more social commentary on “Billy Balloon Head” which tackles racism and general intolerance in today’s society. Apparently, from where the band hail, a ‘Billy balloon head’ is one who is not very nice, tolerant open-minded or the least bit intelligent. I’m sure we all know someone like that.It may sound so far like Full Nelson is a bit profound but the way the music is performed is proper traditional heavy rock with the odd deviation to more differing styles, such as the post-punk vibe to the less serious “Summer Smile” which hails rocking out in the summer sunshine.Things are taken down a notch or two on “Northern Boy”, and whilst not being quite a ballad it does have the constituent parts such as slower entrancing rhythm, melancholic lyrics and emotional guitar. The solo, in particular, is a highlight. The song expresses beautifully life in a working-class family from the north of England.“Robot (Trust in Me)” takes a real departure from the norm. Remember my reference to The Offspring? This track is reminiscent of them in their Smash days; punky, slightly aggressive and threatening. It’s back to classic rock for “Back to the Stack” and the band’s tribute to the late Rick Parfitt. The whole track is underpinned by the classic “Caroline” riff and Status Quo is referenced throughout. Absolutely love it.“Hate Me” is a mid-paced rocker, catchy as you like, but with still with a load of balls. What all these songs have in common is the ability to make you want to join in and be part of the experience, not be just an outsider listening in. Go on, shout yourselves hoarse and love it!Baz Mills, front and center. Bondaged behind are Adam and Alex Thistlethwaite, Adam Bouskill and Steve Holl.Any song containing the lyric “Christ on a bike” gets my vote and “Last on the List” does exactly that. This is a crowd-pleaser, no doubt, which will get the audience up and bouncing. Great riffs abound, catchy chorus, what more do you want?“Ballad of Verdun Hayes” is of a style reminiscent of the Kaiser Chiefs but the song itself is a fascinating look at lives constricted by rules and what can be achieved by doing what you want. Verdun Hayes, you see, became the oldest person to skydive at 101 years old (he was also a D-Day veteran) so he was hardly the conformist. The final two tracks have been culled from Massive Wagons’ previous album, Welcome to the World, but it matters little, they’re two total winners.More power and emotion is felt on “Ratio” and yet more opportunities to join in a singalong and play the old air guitar. Play it like nobody’s watching…Sadly, here comes the final track, “Tokyo” but what a finish. One last chance to sing your heart out, this time about Massive Wagons’ commitment to their fans despite the lack of support from, er, ‘other parties’. More great guitar work enhances an already cracking track.Overall Full Nelson is a top quality album full of great rockers, melody and intelligence.Massive Wagons deserve not just to be massive in the northwest of England, but massive worldwide. They should be playing in Tokyo, not Todmorden.

Album:

Having grown from beloved local heroes (becoming the first ever Lancashire band to achieve a UK Top 40 album with their UK #16 album 'Full Nelson' in 2018) to national treasures within the New Wave of Rock'n'Roll, Massive Wagons have crafted an all new album of heavy duty rock'n'roll that stays true to the band's influences whilst also pushing past the boundaries of what fans have experienced on previous albums. Adding twists of tough punk and twinkles of yacht rock, whilst keeping frontman Barry “Baz” Mills' iconic lyricism and the band's electrifying no-nonsense rock recipe, the album proffers tracks which will prove to be huge anthems in the live arena.I think there are a lot of people who are eagerly awaiting this release, and rightly so. Massive Wagons have become one of the leading lights of the NWOCR in the UK, along with Those Damn Crows. Having witnessed both bands live this year they have stepped up and it’s no surprise that they are now headliners in their own rights. Massive Wagons seriously translate what they do in the studio onto the stage.Massive Wagons have a formula that revolves around a hard rock/punk sound and often eloquent lyrics. They keep it fun even when they are singing about some serious social commentary. They kick off with the stomping ‘Fuck The Haters’ which has one of those catchy melodies that they seem to be able to write in their sleep then we get kinda alt/new wave on ‘Please Stay Calm’, something a bit different with the choppy riff and Baz’s spoken word verses before they punk it up on the chorus. ‘Generation Prime’ is an absolute banger featuring Benji Webbe helping with the social commentary and includes some reggae lines too, check the video – it’s superb. ‘A.S.S.H.O.L.E’ is more commentary on a big brassy rocker than the restrained ‘Skateboard’ gets the head nodding. More new wave/punk on ‘Gone Are The Days’ will surely get things going live then we get the immense title track which the band played at Call Of The Wild and it went down a storm. ‘Giulia’ is another stomper before the melodic rocking gem of ‘Germ’ and the summery ‘Never Been A Problem’. We get southern on ‘Big Time’ then rapid rocker ‘Sawdust’ takes us to the final cut ‘No Friend Of Mine’ which weaves around on a darker edgier groove. All killer, with no filler. Damn straight. Massive Wagons channel all the right influences into their sound and they remain quintessentially British with it. They are punchy with the riffs and seriously melodic on the vocals plus the rhythm section is tighter than a duck’s butt. Expect to see Massive Wagons at the top of the bill from now on. Superb heavy rock n roll – plus it’s FUN!

Album:

British ruffians MASSIVE WAGONS are back with their seventh studio album, ”Earth To Grace”, perhaps their most commercial offering to date, bringing the anthemic muscle and power-pop gusto that the band have made their name with. From the gleaming slow dancer “Night Skies“, the radio friendly pop of “Sleep Forever” and ”Missing on TV”, to the dynamism of “The Good Die Young” (featuring Hundred Reasons‘ vocalist Colin Doran), every track has a catchy factor. The album also sees the welcome return of Adam Thistlethwaite and Stevie Holl‘s twin guitars, which entwine to create a hulking double helix of guitar brawn to these accessible melodies, whilst keeping frontman Barry “Baz” Mills’ iconic lyricism, the album proffers tracks which will prove to be huge anthems in the live arena.Given that ”Earth To Grace” is their most relatable set of songs to date, it’d be folly to predict anything other than continued ascent for these genuine working class heroes.A big step has been recruiting producer Matt O’Grady who has helped Wagons perfect what they were doing anyway – writing about real situations in a way that truly chimes with the human experience. It still rocks like a pissed mastodon when it needs to – metallic opener ”Sleep Forever” and rapid-fire closer ”Rabbit Hole” being two examples – but it mostly does so with hand on heart.Baz Mills, an enjoyably eccentric but notably human frontman, sounds and looks like nobody else in rock, and his caring tones illuminate ”Night Skies”, a song about depression that doesn’t preach but simply asks you to look and think.Elsewhere, you can feel where producer and band have gelled, softening spikes, making the good bits better, and finding the right backdrops for Mills’ quasi-comic candor.

Album:

British Hard Rockers MASSIVE WAGONS are releasing today a new Mix of their third studio album titled “Welcome To The World”, a hot 10-track rocker plenty of energy. ”Welcome To The World [Remixed +5]” features the original album tracks re-worked & remixed, together for the first time with all the associated bonus tracks and b-sides : 5 in total, plus refreshed artwork. This is a group of lads who have managed to develop their sound to a whole new level over the past few years, and managed to grow into one serious Rock ‘n’ Roll band who are a true testament to the old school Hard Rock acts they’ve been influenced by.According to the band; “We wrote this album fast, back in the non-stop club show days of 2015! In our opinion that is what gave the songs that energy. Welcome To The World found our ‘sound’. If we have one, it started there and then. As with the writing, recording was done quickly due to the financial situation at the time, money was tight and therefore so was studio time. 10 days was all we had to record and mix. Though unlike the writing where the lack of time was beneficial, we always felt like this restriction let us down while mixing, and just a couple more days focussing on the mix would have truly given the album justice.” said guitarist Adam.“In 2023, we decided to give ourselves those days”. Baz, Matt Elliss (producer) and myself reconvened at Axis Studio armed with the benefit of hindsight, we set about improving everything we could in just a couple of days. We focussed on the guitar tones, which we thought were a little harsh and brought out some elements of the mix we felt were lost in the rush of the original.Limiting ourselves to only two days was deliberate, it was important to us to maintain the energy of the original so limiting our time forced us to be decisive and impulsive, just as we would have been back in the winter of 2015.”Barry “Baz” Mills elaborates: “We wanted to re-release it with a purpose, and absolutely did not want to just ‘re-master’ it – we wanted to pay it the proper attention it was due. The album was originally recorded from start to finish in about 12 days due to work and money constraints. At the time, we were happy with the finished product, but over the years we have always said we wished we could have spent more time on certain songs. That’s why we re-visited Matt Elliss at Axis Studios, to look at everything we recorded at the time and just spend time listening to all the takes, parts, and sessions we put down to see what really was best for the songs. It was a lot of fun and I truly believe these songs are now much more where we wanted them to be back in 2016. I’m so proud of this album, and I can’t wait to hear what you think of the re-worked, re-mixed songs! We’re even more proud of what we came out with, and think fans of the original plus new recruits to the Wagons army will the album that set the blueprint for our future. You don’t have to be a huge Massive Wagons fan to appreciate this re-issue and its re-worked tracks, but it probably helps. It is, after all, an example of fan service, which means that your feelings towards the band and the album already will dictate how you feel about this release.Massive Wagons are one hell of an anthemic rock band, capable of getting just about everyone up and moving, and causing singalongs galore. Tracks like Nails, Shit Sweat Dead, Fighting Jack, and Fee Fi Fo Fum have never sounded this groovy, energised, and exciting. This re-working has allowed the band to really showcase their growth in the years since it was originally released, and it just sounds so much smoother to the ears.Of course, it’s not just about body-shaking rock and roll, Massive Wagons know a thing or two about melody as well. Both Tokyo and Ratio are such singalongs, and they just sound grander here. Then there is the likes of Jodie and Aeroplane that offer plenty of melodrama, giving this album a really layered and varied feel overall.Among the bonus you can enjoy the sweet acoustic ringing of Sixteen and the high-powered rocker that is Everybody Dies. Both are strong tracks and fit the original album vibe nicely. Then, if you do get this CD version, you’ll get to enjoy an ‘Unplugged’ version of Aeroplane, which is very cool. You’ll also get to enjoy Fighting Jack again, but with an alternative solo, and the 2016 ‘pledge only’ track, Mr Crowley. Yes, this is a cover of the Ozzy hit, and Massive Wagons sure do it well. Talk about bang for your buck. What makes Massive Wagons stand out from the crowd is the fact that they don’t take themselves too seriously – they take the music for what it is, which is an awesome list of tracks to rock out too, and it’s about enjoying what you do and having a good time while you do it.“Welcome To The World”, based on all the nostalgic elements it manages to incorporate with such ease, it’s clear that this is the music brought forward by a group of ’80s kids who have been heavily influenced by the Classic Hard Rock / Hair Metal generation, and I’m glad they have.
