Originally founded as THE DRAGONSLAYER PROJECT, the group now known as DRAGONY was created in summer of 2007 by former members of the split-up Austrian Powermetal-Bands OMEGA EFFECT and ELEFTHERIA. After additional members on bass, drums and keyboards had been found, the band began rehearsing for their first live shows which they played in spring 2008. Since then, the band has had a few gigs in Vienna and its surroundings, with local support slots for national and international acts such as EDENBRIDGE, FIREWIND and AXXIS among them. The band's music is heavily influenced by well-known bands of the True- and Powermetal genres such as HAMMERFALL, EDGUY, KAMELOT or NIGHTWISH; with a lot of doublebass, harmonic guitar leads and catchy choruses.After the very successful "Night Of Power 2009" that DRAGONY organised together with ECLIPTICA and that featured SERENITY as a headlining act, as well as local support gigs for PAUL DI'ANNO and most recently, SONATA ARCTICA and MANTICORA, DRAGONY has now recorded their debut album "Legends", which was released in November 2011.The new band logo was designed by Spanish artist Marta De Andrés, who is currently also working on the cover artwork and booklet for the new album:Guests on the debut album include:Ralf Scheepers (PRIMAL FEAR) Tom Tieber (ECLIPTICA) Katarina Bilak (SIREN'S CRY) Thomas Buchberger (SERENITY) Phil Porter (SIREN'S CRY) Van Alen (ECLIPTICA) Sergio Tallo Torres."Legends" was recorded and mixed at WildOneMusic Studios Vienna by Jakob Grabmayr and Frank Pitters, and mastered by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios Helsinki.In 2012, DRAGONY promoted and performed at the METAL NATION Tour of PRIMAL FEAR and BRAINSTORM in Vienna Austria.Also, DRAGONY appeared at METALFEST Austria 2012 in Mining am Inn.In May 2012, DRAGONY announced the signing of a worldwide deal with LIMB Music.In October 2012, it was announced that Daniel Stockinger (guit) and Georg Lorenz (keys) have left the band. Simon Saito was announced as new guitar player, and in December 2012, Manuel Hartleb joined the band as a new keyboard player. The second album "Shadowplay" is set for a release on 18th September 2015.

The next chapter in DRAGONY’s history with a new lineup, bolstered by new members Matt on guitars and Chris on drums, will be written in 2024 together with the renowned metal label SPV Steamhammer: The band’s fifth studio album “Hic Svnt Dracones” is set for a release in October 2024, and once again the band took no prisoners and produced an excellent album mixed and mastered by genre great Jacob Hansen (i.a. AMARANTHE, EPICA) featuring 11 strong and catchy melodic metal tracks (+ 1 bonus track), which will excite both fans of modern Power Metal and traditionalists alike. Once again Dragony invite the listener on an epic journey into long-forgotten times and realms, as the concept story behind “Hic Svnt Dracones” tells a new, fantastical interpretation of the events surrounding the “Lost Colony” of Roanoke in the “New World” as well as the fate of the British colonists who disappeared there, all neatly tied into a bombastic Power Metal package!
