Giuffria was an American rock band that was formed in 1983 by Gregg Giuffria after his departure from the band Angel, a glam rock/heavy metal band from Washington, D.C.Giuffria was formed as Gregg Giuffria's side project in 1982 after his departure from Angel. At the onset, Giuffria had intended to forge this project under the 'Angel' moniker, until several members of the now-defunct band took suit. The band's classic line-up consisted of Gregg Giuffria on keyboards,David Glen Eisley (lead vocalist), Craig Goldy (guitar), Chuck Wright (bass), and Alan Krigger (drums). Eisley had recently been vocalist for Los Angeles-based band Sorcery. Goldy had briefly been a member of hard rock/glam metal band Rough Cutt, while Wright had guested on several tracks on Quiet Riot's album, Metal Health,[1] although not an official member at the time. Tom Quinton played drums for several months in 1983-84 but was dumped in favor of long time session drummer Alan Krigger, who was deemed to have a better image than Quinton.Giuffria were signed to MCA Records in 1984. Their self-titled debut album Giuffria, soon followed, peaking at #26 on the album charts, while spawning two hit singles, "Call To The Heart" (Hot 100 #15) and "Lonely In Love" (Hot 100 #57).The band was the opening act for Deep Purple on the latter's 1984 reformation US tour. Throughout this tour, despite receiving rave reviews as the opening act, the members of Giuffria were subjected to poor treatment by Deep Purple lead guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, who cut the band's set from 45 minutes to 25 minutes, also with no guitar solo and no encores.The band toured as opener on Foreigner's "Agent Provocateur" Tour, and enjoyed considerable success. The band played a few shows in Japan in June 1985 and a live video was released as "Giuffria Japan Tour '85". Giuffria was also featured on the Gotcha! soundtrack, with "Never Too Late" and "Say It Ain't True." A third track "What's Your Name?" featured Gregg Giuffria and David Glen Eisley, but was listed under the name Camelflage. Gregg would also produce several of the album's tracks.Giuffria's next album Silk and Steel, was released in 1986, following some lineup changes. Goldy had joined Dio and was replaced by guitarist Lanny Cordola while Wright returned to Quiet Riot (this time joining the band as an official member) and was replaced by Rick Bozzo and later David Sikes. First single "I Must be Dreaming" failed to hit the Top 40, peaking at #52, with the album peaking at #60 on the Billboard 200. A second single, "Love You Forever" was released, but label promotion was poor and aside from an American Bandstand performance of the single it quickly disappeared, failing to make the Hot 100.Giuffria left MCA in 1987 and disbanded shortly after recording demos for a third album, which included the return of bassist Chuck Wright. This album is simply stunning.Co-produced by legend Andy Johns, the album represents all we love in this marvelous musical genre.Gregg Giuffria sets the keyboards on fire, and the rest of the band fills in with melodic energy, with Goldy delivering sharp guitar licks and Eisley singing his heart out.Highlights include opener ‘Do Me Right’ (with swirling keyboards from the very start), the Journey-esque ‘Call To The Heart’ (I love this tune), the killer midtempo ballad ‘Lonely In Love’, the fantastic ‘Don’t Tear Me Down’ and the closing track ‘Out Of The Blue’ with a brilliant solo from Goldy.But… what I am saying? ALL tracks are pure gold!The sound on “Guiffria” is majestic, bombastic and haunting, combining the best of the seminal Pomp AOR with the ’80s commercial melodic hard rock. All tracks are superlative.This Japanese SHM-CD remastering sounds incredible, sadly now out of print. There’s a scheduled (not confirmed) SHM-CD re-release for 2016, but if you cand find a copy of this one you you’ll not regret it.

Album released in Japan, remastered, pressed on high quality SHM-CD and featuring a Carboard Sleeve miniLP package replicating the original artwork.Second album “Silk & Steel” was another awesome slice of pure AOR / Melodic Hard rock delivered by Giuffria, a must have for any fan of the genre.“Silk & Steel” came two years after debut and featured new guitarist Lanny Cordola (instead of Craig Goldy, who went to Dio) and bassist David Sikes (who took over from Chuck Wright, who returned to Quiet Riot).Produced by Pat Glasser – who was at the time also the producer of Giuffria’s MCA labelmates Night Ranger – the sound here combined melodic gems (Silk) and edgy rockers (Steel).The uber melodic elements of debut are retained, many times compared with Journey.The grandiose ‘No Escape’ starts with helicopter effects before exploding into a great rocking piece with a super chorus, while the hit ‘I Must Be Dreaming’ is one of my favorite Giuffria songs ever (although it’s a cover)."Radio’ is a true melodic hard rocker plenty of edge, as well as the the glammy ‘Lethal Lover’ and the raunchy ‘Dirty Secrets’.Then ‘Tell It Like It Is’ is pure class AOR, elegant and polished, and the intense ‘Change of Heart’ is another winner.The sound on Guiffria’s second effort is much more polished & slick than the debut, and I love this classic mid-Eighties glossy production.While the album was criticized by the specialized press back in the day for being too much commercial, nowadays is recognized as a true ’80s AOR / Melodic Hard gem.This Japanese SHM-CD remastering sounds incredible, featuring as bonus track the excellent ‘Say It Ain’t True’, one of the tracks Giuffria composed for the Gotcha! movie soundtrack,As occurs with the first album, these Japanese SHM-CD editions are out of print now. There’s a scheduled (not confirmed) SHM-CD re-release for 2016, but if you cand find a copy of this one you’ll not regret it.

First single "I Must be Dreaming" failed to hit the Top 40, peaking at #52, with the album peaking at #60 on the Billboard 200. A second single, "Love You Forever" was released, but label promotion was poor and aside from an American Bandstand performance of the single it quickly disappeared, failing to make the Hot 100.Giuffria left MCA in 1987 and disbanded shortly after recording demos for a third album, which included the return of bassist Chuck Wright. Some of these demos would eventually appear on the House of Lords debut album, and nine tracks from the Giuffria III sessions were included on David Glen Eisley's Lost Tapes release.On an episode of That Metal Show in 2010, guitarist Craig Goldy claims there is talk of a reunion of the band.

Here’s in exclusive the very well done 2-disc bootleg of GIUFFRIA titled “Coffee Break Concert 1985 + More“, featuring two really good radio broadcast shows from their 1985 U.S. tour following the release of their self-titled debut album.Disc 1 contains a live performance recorded for the Cleveland radio station WMMS-FM legendary program “COFFEE BREAK CONCERT” performed on the morning of February 20. Giuffria also opened for DEEP PURPLE that night. Sound quality is fantastic.Disc 2 contains 7 songs from the Milwaukee show two days earlier, which was broadcast on the King Biscuit Flower Hour. The ‘+ More’ part are unreleased demos.In February 1985, Ohio-based radio station WMMS-FM would book a band (who will play later that night opening for Deep Purple) and let them play for about an hour in small local club called Peabody’s Down Under, and then broadcast the recording during the afternoon.As said, a really well done bootleg with prints, and good sound quality.
