Bio:

Pröwess is a straight-on rock 'n' roll band hailing from the Charlotte, North Carolina area. Touring relentlessly across the U.S. as an upstart, this once relatively unknown act has amassed a loyal following in all corners with their killer live show that throws a nod to the legendary hard rock bands of the late-70's. The band has released two self-produced EPs in their short existence: Headfirst EP [2017] & Roll'n with the Punches LIVE EP [2018]. Both of which showcased a young, frenetic band with all of the energy and panache of their heroes, albeit in very raw form. As of 2019 they have focused all of their efforts on recording their debut studio full length album with producer Tuk Smith [ex-BITERS] as well as a Grammy-winning sound engineer. Their most recent single "Lookin' for a Bullet" was named Classic Rock Magazine's Tracks of the Week in May 2019. The horizon looks bright for these young rockers, who aim to bring back the grit and sweat of when rock 'n' roll was having its heyday. Keep your eyes peeled, because Pröwess is the real deal.

Album:

Blacktop Therapy by American rockers Pröwess, set to drop into the world on January 3rd, will be somewhere at the top of my “best of” list for 2020.That is not hype; that is not exaggeration; that is a fact.Lots of rock bands chase that dirty, smoky, gritty, sexy sound of honest-to-goodness rock and roll. That kind of rock and roll that smells of sweat and beer, smoke and whiskey. The kind that makes your hips move and your head bang whether you want to or not. The kind of rock and roll that rattles your ribs, that enters your bloodstream like a shot of adrenaline (or a shot of tequila, for that matter). Few bands have the attitude, the swagger, and particularly the skills to make it happen, to really achieve that sound. Many get pretty damn close, but Pröwess? Well, they deliver a knockout dose of ROCK right here and right now.Pröwess is a band that has been working its ass off on the road for a while, and if you want to talk about paying dues, this band has paid theirs and then some. They pour all of that experience, all of the blood and the sweat and the miles on the road, into Blacktop Therapy, and the result is an album that goes off like a barrel of rock’n’roll dynamite. The title track, “Blacktop Therapy”, takes off with screeching tires (literally) and a bevy of tasty, heavy riffs. Like the entire album, this tune just bristles and crackles with energy and personality. The sound is brawny and catchy as hell, and you feel it, you can feel this music rumble in your bones, feel it tingle in your skin, and it is an absolute freaking delight. From that first track, all you need to do is hop on and go for a ride with Pröwess. Every tune here is a slamming good time, from the wild, irresistible, and slightly unhinged, strut and flair of “Lookin’ For A Bullet”; to the hooky rock and roll anthem “Every Right”, with singer Dalton Bowes telling us “I’ve got every right to piss my life away”; to the swaggering menace of “Eyes of the Hunter” with its blazing hot guitar work. It’s not just that this album rocks hard and heavy. It rocks hard and heavy in style. The tunes are sharp-edged gems, the kind of tunes you want to listen to all over again once you’ve heard them the first time, and they are well-crafted from the lyrics to the riffs, to the vocals to the drums to the basslines. Everything comes together just right, and I have to say that Bowes’s voice seems as if it were made for this kind of sound: a bit rough, a bit sweet, and with all the attitude you might desire.Favourite tracks? How about all of them. There’s “Tombstone Blues” with its slightly slower rhythm and a lovely mournfulness to its sound. There’s “Heart’s Desire” with some beautifully howling guitar work — it’s an emotional tune that still holds on to that brash and brawny sound. And there’s the kick-ass “Bring Your Love”, a delicious wrecking/disco-ball of 70s vibes and hardrock heart, and definitely a track to remember. The album closes out with a terrific one-two punch: the loud and rugged rock’n’roll grit of “Welcome Home”; followed by the rollicking, slip-sliding, speeding bullet train of a track that is “All Downhill”.Once I get to that point, I usually just go back to the top and start all over again. I mean, what can I say? Since I received my early preview copy of Blacktop Therapy, I have listened to it more times than I can count, and I love it more with every listen. It’s a cold beer with a chaser, it’s the feeling of the wind and the road, it’s dirty and delicious and almost indecently good. My verdict: don’t miss out. Put this album in your ears as soon as you can.
