Darker Half is a melodic metal band from Sydney Australia. Their sound is rooted in traditional metal, drawing on only the heaviest most face melting forms of steel. Twisted dual guitars and explosive solos are laid across a rock solid yet inventive rhythm section, topped off by a vocalist whose range can match any of rock’s greats, making this a band who can really set themselves apart. They have released three albums in Australia — Duality (2009), Desensitized (2011) and Never Surrender (2014). In 2016 Never Surrender was released in Europe and was quickly followed by their new EP Classified.They have shared a stage with some of Metal’s finest acts including Queensryche, Edguy, Sonata Arctica, Dark Funeral, Children of Bodum, Nightwish, Accept, Helloween, Stratovarius and more.Singer/Guitarist Vo worked with Stu Marshall (Death Dealer) on his Empires Of Eden project contributing vocals on two songs and a guest guitar solo. Metal icons that feature on the album include Udo Dirkshneider, Rob Rock, Ronnie Monroe, Sean Peck and Ross the Boss. Members of Darker Half have played in the touring bands of Tim Ripper Owens, Paul Di’anno and Blaze Bayley.Through all this Darker Half have established themselves as one of Austtralia’s premier metal acts, drawing together multiple influences to create a unique sound all their own.They have performed throughout Australia and New Zealand, have toured the USA and Eastern Europe. Wherever they have ventured, they have won new fans and received glowing reviews.Now Darker Half is putting plans in action to return to Europe, build on their new fan base and hit new territories in the continuation of their quest for world heavy metal domination!!!

Darker Half are a heavy metal band from the land down under, Sydney to be exact, but their influences are most definitely from the northern hemisphere. The band owe a lot to early Maiden more than anything else with a raw metal sound, twin guitar delivery and screaming vocals. Just to re-enforce this notion the band have supported Paul Dianno twice on antipodean tours.This is the band’s second full length release, the first found the band critical acclaim and led to several notable support slots. The guys play heavy metal with the odd bit of thrash thrown in for good measure and it is rather good. The twin guitar work of Vo Simpson and Brad Dickson is excellent, harking back to the early sparring of Dave Murray and Adrian Smith ( or Den Stratton if you want to go that far back ). The only weak point in the delivery at times are the vocals of Vo who does struggle a bit at lower registers but he hits the high notes with aplomb.This is a good album with a lot going for it, if you hanker for the good old NWOBHM days then Darker Half could be just the thing. They will be touring all over Australia soon in support of the album if you fancy popping over.
