Album:

‘Rock’N Roll Love Affair’ is the second full-length album from the Australian Glam Metal / Theatrical Rock band CROSSON, which musical style isn’t influenced by the Eighties… it is absolutely ’80s.Song titles like “Weak At The Knees (For A Hot Brunette)”, “Everyone’s A Star”, and “Rock ‘N Roll Love Affair” speak for themselves. The album was mixed by legendary American producer Duane Baron (Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crue, Alice Cooper, Poison), mastered by expert Dave Donnelly (Aerosmith, KISS, Whitesnake), and engineered by Aussie veteran Russell Pilling (The Vines, Hoodoo Gurus, Noiseworks).Sporting a very good, crisp, clear production, and very well mixed, ‘Rock ‘N Roll Love Affair’ is a very good sounding record.Opening up the record is the slickly produced “Everyone’s A Star,” which opens with some nice power chord and keyboard exchanges. This is ’80s glammy hard rock but Jason Crosson’s voice has a lot more in common with some of the New Wave bands from the era, resulting into a very cool, interesting contrast. That is actually more prevalent on the second track, the rocker “Givin’ Up Living Giving Up”. You can feel the theatrical nature of the band come through on both of these cuts, as everything has a certain “larger than life” feel to it.Once you get acclimated to the vocal delivery and start concentrating on the music itself, the only thing that really glares at you is just how talented the entire band truly is.All the instrumentation is top shelf. Everyone, with a special mention to Stu Marshall licks & solos, deliver a tight performance. The album’s third track, the power ballad “Rest in Peace,” is a particularly well written piece, with a harmonized vocal intro and beautifully textured guitar work throughout. The song has all to be huge, and would have been a MTV hit in 1988.Other highlights on the record are “We All Need an Enemy” and “Possessed.” The former features a healthy dose of cutting lyrics aimed at the ‘Socio-Political War Machines’. The latter has the oddball vocal delivery, but damn is it fun.At the end of the day, that is exactly what we are here for; entertainment. And Crosson delivers.I would love to see a live show from these guys, especially if their onstage energy is as strong as on this record.
