Bio:

DOGFACE is a Swedish five piece fronted by the talented Mats Leven, which previously has been heard with much raved Treat and also of course as singer with Yngwie Malmsteen on Facing The Animal. The guitarist Martin Kronlund is the driving force and the main songwriter in the band.“I might be the one leading the project, but we are a band, and that was one of the important things for me when thinking of forming Dogface”, says Martin, finding the perfect voice in former Swedish Erotica, Treat and Yngwie Malmsteen singer Mats Leven who previously played with keyboader Anders Skoog in various bands in the Gothenburg area. The album “Unleashed” was recorded in Martins own J.M Studio throughout the year and on three of the album songs can find guitar legend Brian Robertson, known from his days in Thin Lizzy and Motörhead, giving a guest performance. The bands style and direction is in many ways inspired by the 70’s hardrock of Deep Purple, Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy. But the band also injected other influences which shows the band to be one of the most interesting debuts in the field in a long time!“In Control” was released in 2002 and is the follow-up to the debut ‘Unleashed’. Not quite as good as the debut, but still a very solid slab of hard rock. I like this band a lot, and Mats Leven’s amazing voice only helps this along. This time the band move more towards what many others are already doing – putting out albums closer in style to classic Rainbow and heavy Deep Purple. Not that is a best thing of course, but as I said, in comparison to the debut, this album falls flat.In 2013 they returned with the properly entitled CD “Back On The Streets” published by AOR Heaven. The new album includes drummer Perra Johansson (Coldspell) and bass player Mikael Carlsson, both as well together with Kronlund on the recent really good outfit Lover Under Cover. The sound and style of Dogface is quite classic: ‘American’ DIO circa 1986 blended with the more melodic side of Tony Martin-led Sabbath (a good thing, I may add) and high doses of the Swedish present Melodic Hard Rock waves.

Album:

Dogface is one of my personal favorite bands out there. Their debut opus, "Dogface Unleashed", back in 2000 was a classic record all the way. An album that gained a great feedback from both music press and fans and, for sure, an album that put Dogface in the hard rock premium league for good. Mats Leven amazing vocals along with Martin Kronlund's breathtaking guitar lines and with a tight as hell rhythm section, Dogface put a wide smile upon the face of every serious hard rock fan. A few years later, a second album saw the light of day with the title "In Control". Not quite as classic as the debut but, for damn sure, a solid one that included some killer tunes in it. After this one the band took a long break to return in 2013 with a new opus entitled "Back On The Streets" through AOR Heaven records. The line-up was changed but Martin Kronlund and Mats Levén remained the only original members on board. ”Dogface Releashed” was released in 2018 by Melodic Rock Records. This was a remastered and remixed version of the ”Dogface Unleashed” opus. The band after that decided that this release was going to be the last Dogface album. They said: “We are very proud of what we have accomplished and want to thank our fans and believers for all the great years."Nowadays, with ”From the end to the beginning” the band strikes back with a compilation that includes material from the three albums with the songs that represents the Dogface sound the best. For the fans of Dogface, this album is a must have 'cause it includes all the band's best tunes to-date. Songs such as "Don't", "A Single Reason", the amazingly bluesier "I Will Be There", the groovier "Right Between Your Lies", "You're Taken Me Down" or the Thin Lizzy-esque "I Don't Care" and "Spit It Out" are all classics in my book and they are songs that can't be missed by any fan of the classic hard rock sound. All in all, "From The End To The Beginning" is an album that encloses the history, even if is a short one, of a band that has released some quality and timeless music. Ladies and gentlemen this is DOGFACE at their best!!!!
