Info:
After her short but memorable tenure as frontwoman in symphonic metal band Alpine Fault came to an end, Sam Wolstenholme decided she would not stop there. Instead, in early 2014, she began forming an entirely new symphonic metal-inspired band - Seraphic. Early on in the piece, Sam was lucky enough to find Erwin Febrianto, ex-Rising Force and power metal shredder-extraordinaire, who joined the band as lead guitarist. Prodigious young drummer Dylan Thurecht joined the ranks next, with the final addition of Michael Bates as smooth-sailing bassist. Building upon Sam's acoustic piano/vocal pieces, each member of the band contributed their own parts to each song to create a melodic, epic, yet entirely unique kind of metal, with dramatic piano featured throughout each song - not to mention groovy drums and stirring guitar solos. In early 2015, Seraphic made their bold debut with two professional demo tracks, and audiences took notice of their energetic performances and memorable melodies at their first few live gigs.Late 2015 saw the sad departure of drummer Dylan, but 2016 began on a high note with a very successful show supporting Melbourne power-metallers Horizons' Edge, and the announcement of Daniel Langdon joining the band on drums.
Album:
Brisbane symphonic metal darlings Serpahic burst onto the scene just over two years ago, quickly making a name for themselves with their haunting, beautiful music and powerful live performances. Led by their talented frontwoman Sam Wolstenholme, the band have gone from strength to strength, with their sound maturing since the release of their 2015 two track demo.Speaking on the single release, Wolstenholme says:"Fire and Ice is a very personal track. It explores what it’s like to be in a toxic relationship, whether that be with another person close to you, or even yourself and your own demons, and how one can break free of that insidious hold. It starts off in a dark place, but gradually becomes lighter and more empowered. In that respect, Fire and Ice really emulates the overall theme of the album."Choosing the song was an absolute no brainer, as Wolstenholme confirms:"It’s a successful blend of catchy and accessible yet still representative of all aspects of our sound. It’s an anthemic track, something that we believe would strike a chord with listeners, and so it was the obvious choice for a preview of the album to come."The band were in experienced and capable hands with the release, teaming up with Kalen Austin (The Stranger) in Brisbane to record and mix the tracks, before sending it on to the talented Jens Bogren (Opeth, Soilwork, Katatonia) for mastering. All of this experience and talent certainly made for a great record, with the band happy with the result, and happy in the knowledge that their fans will love the album too."Journey to Illumination is a true representation of our journey as a band since its conception. From start to finish, the album illustrates how our sound has grown and matured, culminating in the last track, which is our most experimental and adventurous yet. We are in such a great place as a band – we have settled comfortably into the perfect lineup and we are always looking for ways to challenge ourselves as musicians. Journey to Illumination really represents that, and we’re very proud of our work," says rhythm guitarist Raouf Araji.
