Album:
The Rocker (understood as a band) is the ambitious project of Edo Arlenghi, character known to the musical chronicles especially as the leader of Riff-Raff (AC-DC tribute band). It must be said, however, that our "Brian Johnson tricolor" is very well known abroad, especially in Japan, where he has done, inter alia, prestigious awards, even winning, in March 2000, the Japan Golden Disk Award. The artwork on the cover shows a flaming heart with the inscription "The Rocker"; for the record, the logo is the same that stands on the biceps of sapling frontman. Inside, a sleek folding portrays a trio of "machos" (Edo Arlenghi, Fortunato Saccà and Walter Caliaro) in an artistic composition, with space below for any signature with dedications. To want to be hyper-critical, a booklet with the lyrics of the songs would have been welcome, to complete the work. The photos and the layout are the result of the inspiration of Ivano Tomb. Before exploring the story of the individual tracks, it is appropriate to give some mention on the company protagonists. Edo Arlenghi has already been mentioned in the introduction. Walter Caliaro (Edge of Forever, Riff Raff) is a young and talented guitarist, with excellent technical and good versatility. Fortu Sacca (Tozzi, Ruggeri, Griggs, Rossovivo), thanks to his experience, a significant contribution to the realization of the basic rhythm and arrangements. Finally (I would say "last but not least" in this case, given my special admiration, from a technical - professional): Cesco Jovino (High Voltage, Edge of Forever, UDO) arises no doubt as one of the best drummer still in circulation, with a lovely "heavy-handed" and able to give that extra touch to each song, with its increasingly robust and vigorous timing. Finally, it should be remembered that in the most recent historical period of the group the two covers have been recorded, with the participation of guitarist Mauro Palermo (Sharks, Massimo Riva, Vasco Rossi) and drummer Ramon Rossi (Exilia, Rare Animals, Aida Cooper, Glenn Hughes, etc.). These elements are now entered in a permanent position on the staff of the band. At this point, we can turn our reader and to pump up the coffers! "Pure Rock and Roll never lies" opens with a scratchy and strong riffs, that breaks the fade of the sound of a jet, and plays the position for a cavalcade of real R'n'R, in full respect of the royalties. The reason is rather driving, so did the rabid riffaccio biting your ankles, insistent like a stubborn bulldog that you do not give up until the time of the guitar-solo, a prelude to a brief slowdown and then crushed again using the accelerator pedal . A good start to skyrocket, which is no coincidence fades with jet hissing. "No rules": the thrust of the drums gives a rhythm sent to this second track, which is also full of R'n'R throttle, which resembles' the best Mötley Crue, for the structure, the choirs and the sound setting; closure is very original and ... rather irreverent! Ha ha! "Italian bastards" opens with another of those riffoni that are imprinted in the mind and act as a supporting structure of the whole piece, destined to become a real hit. The plot is melodic carefree, and fun text, to the extent that mocks all the clichés that have made famous Italians in the world: Ferrari and Maserati, pizza and spaghetti, Casanova, and Ragamuffin, etc .; but the moral is that, despite everything, these "Italian bastards doing it better"! Musically, the song is rather diverse and has at the same time, with a very original guitar solo, reminiscent of the grotesque setting and a bit 'retro Pulp Fiction. The drum work is solid and accurate, and gives it the necessary depth to this episode, truly remarkable. Bass and drums weave the plot of "God's not hate", perhaps the most pissed off the whole album, because of the subject treated, however, as timely as ever: War, religion, hatred. The sound is definitely more dark colors and the same guitar work is marked by the most rough and brutal interventions, while the voice input becomes scratched and heartbreaking, in a crescendo of increasingly screaming desperation, until the abrupt closure. This is one of those pieces that are appreciated in a way directly proportional to the number of plays. A delicate arpeggio opens "To a friend", in ballad style,
