Bio:

Vanishing Point are an Symphonic Metal band based in Melbourne, Australia. The band formed in the early 1990′s with the line up of guitarist Tommy Vucur, drummer Jack Lukic and bassist Joe Del Mastro, from an earlier band called Eye. Vocalist Silvio Massaro and keyboard player Pep Sammartino joined the band in the mid 90′s and the band changed its name to Vanishing Point. Soon after Andrew Whitehead joined as a guitarist. The band concentrated their efforts on songwriting and recording and their first album, and In Thought was recorded in 1996, and released in Europe by German label Angular Records in 1997. The following year it was re-issued in Australia by Melbourne label Metal Warriors. The re-issue featured a bonus track, Inner Peace, which featured new Guitarist Chris Porcianko, who replaced Andrew Whitehead. In 1999, the band supported Yngwie Malmsteen before Pep Sammartino amicably left the band to pursue other avenues. He was replaced by Danny Olding. Soon afterward, Vanishing Point headed to Germany for the 2000 Wacken Open Air festival.[citation needed] Later that year the band’s second album Tangled in Dream was released in Australia and internationally by Germany’s LMP label. The following eighteen months was a busy period for the band. In late 2001, Vanishing Point returned to Europe for a tour with Gamma Ray and Sonata Arctica, during which Olding provided live keyboards for Gamma Ray. Returning to Australia in 2002, they toured the country with German band Edguy. Olding resigned from Vanishing Point shortly after the tour was completed.Vanishing Point worked on their next album throughout 2003 before making a rare live appearance at the annual and prestigious (now defunct) Metal For The Brain festival in Canberra. Leonard Kopilas from Manic Opera joined the band in place of Olding as recording continued, but Vanishing Point was forced into an involuntary hiatus due to ongoing differences with Metal Warriors. This led to Vanishing Point discontinuing their management with Metal Warriors. However, in 2005 the band returned to a live performance at Metal For The Brain, and then a show with Nightwish on the Melbourne leg of their Australian tour. Embrace The Silence was released mid-year internationally by their new label, Germany’s Dockyard 1 and in Australian by the Wollongong-based Riot! label. Late in the year, Joe Del Mastro announced his departure from Vanishing Point. After completing a final round of live shows with the band, he was replaced by Steve Cox.During 2006, Vanishing Point supported Black Label Society and Gamma Ray on the Melbourne leg of their Australian tours.[citation needed] On 7 December Jack Lukic announced his departure due to family commitments and 22 days later Cox also left. He was replaced by Adrian Alimic, also of Manic Opera and Christian Nativo took the place of Jack Lukic (on drums). Jake Lowe was enlisted to perform live keyboards, and in May 2007, Vanishing Point supported DragonForce in Australia and New Zealand. The band’s fourth album The Fourth Season was released on 24 August 2007, through Dockyard 1. In February 2008 Vanishing Point supported Iron Maiden, performing a single show in Perth and two shows in Melbourne. Vanishing Point appeared alongside fellow Australian power metal band Black Majesty on tour with Helloween in February 2008. In July 2008 Vanishing Point supported Joe Satriani for his two Melbourne shows. In late September 2008 Vanishing Point once again took off for Europe this time supporting good friends Sonata Arctica with Norway’s Pagans Mind, the tour was a success[citation needed] and the band played in many new countries where the band had never been to before. Vanishing Point returned home to Australia for a short break and then to fully concentrate on writing the follow up album to The Fourth Season.2009 was spent writing and playing shows both locally and interstate where the band was received positively. Unfortunately the writing process had hit a dead end with some members wanting to pursue different avenues musically which therefore delayed the next album. Eventually this led to a shift in band membership. In 2010 co-founding member Tommy Vucur called it a day and left the band. Adrian Alimic and Jake Lowe also departed the band in 2010. In 2011 Simon Best joined the band on bass, followed by Scott Griffith on guitar and in February the recording for the fifth album began. Progress has been slower than the band anticipated with there being personal / family loss as well as Scott Griffith deciding to spend more time on his own band which was receiving interest from prospective record companies overseas.

Album:

"Tangled In Dream", the 2000 released album by Australian melodic progressive metal band VANISHING POINT, will be re-issued as 2-CD Special Edition on January 27th 2017. After being out of print since years and also not available digitally, this new edition finally allows to (re-)discover one of the early 2000's most impressive releases of the genre.Disc 1 holds the regular album while CD II includes 10 bonus tracks (9 of these available on CD format (outside of Japan) for the first time ever)."Tangled In Dream", the 2000's album by Australian melodic progressive metal band VANISHING POINT, has been reissued as 2-CD Special Edition. After being out of print since years and also not available digitally, this new edition finally allows to (re)discover one of the past decade most impressive releases of the genre.Disc 1 holds the regular album, while the Bonus Disc includes 10 bonus tracks; 9 of these available on CD format outside of Japan for the first time ever, plus a newly recorded song.Although being classified as progressive metal, Vanishing Point's music is in fact a mix of styles also including melodic metal, classic hard rock, acoustic moments, etc.For those unfamiliar with the original album, let’s first take a look at "Tangled in Dream" in its individual version. The album opens with “Surreal” which has a nice spacey beginning and then transitions into orchestral instrumentals. This opening could be compared to the symphonic metal genre, though the more progressive, melodic instrumentation that eventually takes over is more similar to the likes of Rush. There is also some notably good production which gives the vocals a pleasing echoed aesthetic. This blend of metal, progressive rock and hard rock groove continues onto the next couple of tracks “Samsara” and “Closer Apart.” These songs are heavy enough for metal fans to enjoy but they also offer welcoming catchy hooks that more casual hard rock listeners will appreciate."Tangled In Dream" takes a much slower, melodic approach once it reaches track six, “The Real You.” The acoustic guitars give the song an impressively different style and lead singer Silvio Massaro absolutely seals the deal thanks to his skill and personality. The following track, “Two Minds One Soul,” continues the quieter with a classic British metal feel with nice vocal harmonies. This trend carries over into the ninth track, “Dancing with the Devil.” This song is definitely one of the most different moments on the album due to its mainly pure piano instrumentals. This track is the slowest moment on the CD and it arguably strays away from the band’s usual riff-driven sound, and it works as a fine breath of fresh air compared to the record’s heavier moments.Final number is the title track “Tangled in Dreams” which for sure is one of most fascinating moments on the entire record. This track has a shorter runtime, especially compared to the other songs, and focuses on a much more somber yet curious sound. The light, almost electronic atmosphere turns it into a deeply shivering song that might just be the best track on the stacked album and it’s sure to leave a lasting impression on listeners.Disk 2 begins with “Samsara II,” a newly recorded version of the original track, and thanks to the heavier string section and better production (particularly in the vocals) it's a solid improvement over the original, already impressive song. The following number is a cover of Journey’s “Separate Ways”, and it's terrific. The guitars are heavier, while the lead vocals are incredible, and I'm sure Steve Perry would be proud. One of the best versions I heard of this classic. The impressive covers continue when Vanishing Point try their hands at Pink Floyd’s “On the Turning Away.” This track does a fantastic job of combining the band’s hard rock roots with the lighter shades of Pink Floyd in order to fashion a nice piece of progressive metal. This disk ends with five live versions. These tracks, two of which appear on "Tangled In Dream" while the other three are from previous records, are performed entirely acoustically. And on these performances Vanishing Point remind the listeners how impressive and diverse their output can become. This double CD re-release is definitely a lengthy experience to have in one sitting, though there are enough bright moments to keep it from going stale. Vanishing Point are not just a talented band, they’re a distinctly diverse quintet who are capable of changing their sounds in a multitude of ways to create imaginative forms of metal / hard rock.
