The Ludwig LICENCE group is the baby of guitarist, songwriter and local scene size Steam Thiess, who after years of pause with domestic music once again let his creative vein free and wants to go back on the stages of this world. In May 2014 he founded LICENCE. Now the right co-workers were missing. Why go into the distance when you can fill the post at the microphone perfectly family? Namely with Steams daughter Jacky. Shortly thereafter, Sammy Sin, with the cardboard on the bass and drummer, joined the band and the LICENCE line-up was complete. Shortly after the band was founded, they were able to play first shows with such greats as TERRANA, STORMWITCH, PRAYING, MANTIS, STOPSTOP, TRISTATE CORNER, SOULDRINKER or TWENTYDARKSEVEN. ROCK THE KING or DALMSTOCK OPEN AIR. In 2016 one began with the pre-production, which went into 2017 in the debuting album "License 2 Rock". Mixed and mastered by no lesser as the scene size Achim Köhler (among other things PRIMAL FEAR, BRAINSTORM) the album shows the entire range of the formation. Back to the 80s without dusting. Heavy, melodious, but always coming to the point, the song material immediately sets in the ear. The license to rock you can not buy, you have to have. LICENCE they have !!!

With its title "Licence 2 Rock" and the cover artwork, the debut album from Germans LICENCE makes you think about '80s hard rock / metal. And you are right.Mixed and mastered by renowned Achim Köhle (Primal Fear), the record shows Licence's love for classic hard rock and melodic metal, strongly inspired by the '80s style without sounding outdated.Licence is the brainchild of guitarist and songwriter Steam Thiess, a veteran with more than thirty years of experience in the local German circuit. After a break for a few years he decided he has too much musical creativity to let it go and he wants to get back into business.In May 2014 he founded Licence, looking for musicians who'd fit into the band. To find the singer was easy, his daughter Jacky had just what he was looking for. With Jacky's rocking voice the first piece to the puzzle was solved. With bassist Pappe and drummer Sammy Sin, Thiess recruited the two missing links to complete this classic 4-piece combo.Licence soon played shows with bands like Praying Mantis, Terrana, Stop Stop, etc, followed by festivals alongside Saxon, The Poodles, and many more.As said Licence's music style has its roots in the '80s hard rock / melodic metal scene with that typical German flavor; sharp guitar riffs and solos, thick bass lines, punchy drumming and and 'classic' vocals (you know what I mean).After the very good keyboard / synth intro 'In The Beginning' with its atmospheric, so '80s feel, 'Don't Touch The Light' is the first rocker showcasing Licence's ID. The riffs, the chorus and the denim 'n leather attitude 'smell' like classic metal from another era. It's really good stuff. 'Reflections' has some Vice (German band) on it, then 'L2R' has an American style with a sleazy groove and gang choruses, while 'Watching' is driven by nice sharp guitars.'Metal Train' is hard n' heavy with a pure Teutonic sound (Accept like), but follower 'Believer' is much more commercial and next 'Start The Fire' returns to the groovy hard rock territory.'Turn On The Radio' is yet another pretty killer track with rumbling bass lines, Sunset Strip guitar riffs, and sexy vocals from Jacky.Mixing '80s edgy Euro hard n' heavy with American hard rock sounds from the same era, "Licence 2 Rock" is an effective and enjoyable release. Despite the two genres chosen by the band, both are smoothly blended resulting into an interesting, classic retro rockin' CD.A band to keep an eye on in the future, meanwhile with their debut you have a solid piece of '80s stuff to have a good time.
