Bio:
Danko Jones is a Canadian rock band from Toronto, Canada. The band consists of Danko Jones (vocals/guitar), John 'JC' Calabrese (bass guitar) and Rich Knox (drums).Formed in 1996,they played consistently for two years in and around the northeastern United States and Canada, pening for The New Bomb Turks, Nashville Pussy, Blonde Redhead, The Make-Up, The Dirtbombs, The Chrome Cranks and The Demolition Doll Rods. Originally they did not even want to release an album opting to have the band's live reputation spread via word of mouth.Eventually, the trio relented and put out a self-titled six song e.p. on Sonic Unyon records in 1998. In 1999 they released the self-produced My Love Is Bold E.P. and achieved national exposure with the single "Bounce".[2] They were nominated for a Juno Award in 2000 for Best Alternative Album. In 2001 Bad Taste Records released a compilation of the band's early recordings, demos, and b-sides entitled, I'm Alive and On Fire. A 5 week European tour followed to promote the release including shows at the Roskilde festival in Denmark and Hultsfred festival in Sweden. By the end of the year they had returned 2 more times, most notably as main support for the Backyard Babies.
Album:
Danko Jones have been around since 1996 and this is the band’s eighth album. They have a good live reputation, regularly touring the UK and Europe. For me this is my first time listening to a whole album by them, and what have I been missing! Playing a heady mix of hard rock and punk, which combined can’t help but get you up and rocking, Danko Jones will appeal to the inner AC/DC and Thin Lizzy in you.‘Let’s Start Dancing’ features a mix of a fast punk beat and racing guitars, and as the song title says you will be dancing at the end of this one. Thin Lizzy came to mind on more than a few occasions listening to this album, none more so than on ‘You Are My Woman’. Danko Jones has a vocal delivery on this song not unlike the late, great Phil Lynott.Lead track ‘My Little Rock N Roll’ is a catchy little number and sure to garner lots of airplay on the rock radio stations. Loving the bass lines on this one and that chorus will have you singing it after just one listen. Danko Jones do things simply but effectively, like the big riff monster that is ‘I Gotta Rock’ and it does exactly what the title suggests, rocks like a good ‘un. Both these songs highlight the big bottom end sound created by bassist John Calabrese and drummer Rich Knox.‘Revolution (But Then We Make Love)’ could be Danko Jones’s manifesto, change the world first then make love. If you haven’t heard his music before ladies and lovemaking feature right at the top of his list!Danko Jones knows what works for his audience and he does it well. Hard rocking fun from start to finish and not a ballad in sight!
