Bio:

Blackpool Republic is a Los Angeles rock band with the chops and songwriting skills to bring true Rock N Roll back to the forefront of American Music Culture and wipe the slate clean by turning it upside down and on it's ass with no apologies. With influences ranging from AC/DC, The Cult, The Rolling Stones, Faces, Motorhead, Judas Priest, Guns n Roses, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica and The Black Crowes, this is raw Rock n Roll from the heart and soul of 5 men who still believe that Rock n Roll is a way of life and a symbol of independence that is as tough as nails. Lead singer Page rips and growls his way thru the songs like a man on fire as he tells dark stories about life in Los Angeles and the demons that possess most of its inhabitants. Guitarist Greg Gatti sounds like the second coming of Malcolm Young (ac/dc) and Keith Richards as he tears into his semi-hollow body guitar plugged straight into a Marshall stack. The band's bravado sound comes from the foundation of the bass and drums and a belief that rock n roll music should have muscle and power behind it to push the groove along giving room for the guitars to just soar over top. More recently, with the new addition of lead guitarist Johnny Dzubak formerly of the band "Leadfoot" the band has just found it's Ronny Wood to Gatti's Keith Richards style of playing especially in their debut single "Light it up" which was featured on the August 2013 compilation CD for British Rock Rag "Classic Rock Magazine." Along with the new guitarist, the band has recruited Bassist Eric Schrader from the Hollywood band "The Drama" who just happen to be jamming with and a best friend of Dzubak. The drums on the album were performed by Chris Warner, currently in the LA Based "Butcher Babies." But he has since left the band, and the band would like to introduce and welcome LA drummer Yanni Ezer to the band in April 2014. With a firm lineup for 2014, the principal songwriters Chris Page and Greg Gatti plan on taking the band to a new level of success. The debut album "cut the one you love" was recorded/mixed by Greg Gatti at his Los Angeles studio. The band is currently rehearsing for live shows in support of the debut album in 2014. Keep an eye out for these black leather clad wolves in Southern California club scene in the near future, and in the UK and Europe by late 2014. "Blackpool Republic is putting kick back into kickass Rock n Roll" a quote from Del James of Guns n Roses.

Album:

Great music is always appreciated, and Blackpool Republic have just served up a slice of rock ‘n’ roll heaven with the title track off their debut EP Light It Up. There is no denying that you can hear some major Rolling Stones influences during “Light It Up”, but who really cares? The song rocks and is likely the kind of track that Mick Jagger and company would have come up with back in their heyday. Everything from the Rolling Stones inspired guitar riffs and sound, to lead vocalist Chris Page‘s swagger-filled singing, to the awesome guitar soloing throughout the song makes it a winner from start to finish. The one nice thing about Blackpool Republic is that although you might hear a lot of influences in their music, the Los Angeles group also have their own distinct sound and vibe throughout Light It Up. Out of the rest of the tracks on the EP I also really enjoy the groove oriented, but rocking, “Rock City” and the power ballad “Cry Me To Stone”. The latter reminds me at times of Guns N’ Roses, with some of the sounds that can be heard throughout, and I also hear some Poison within Page‘s vocals. The one song that I am not that crazy about is “Cut The One You Love”, which is not a bad tune by any means but feels like there is just too much going on. I would be remiss not to mention the great guitar work provided by former band member Ace Von Johnson (who is probably best known for his gig with Faster Pussycat) throughout the EP.It strongly appears that the architect behind Blackpool Republic is rhythm guitarist Greg Gatti, who wrote all the music and handled most of the production for the EP. Clearly, Gatti is a talented individual because the EP sounds really good and the songs are well crafted. If you like classic and varied rock ‘n’ roll with a bit of a harder edge, you can’t go wrong picking up Blackpool Republic‘s Light It Up.
