Bio:

Anthea is a melodic, progressive, symphonic metal band from Los Angeles, CA.The band aims to create coherent yet diverse symphonic metal music with many influences from film scores and established metal acts such as Kamelot, Nightwish, and Wintersun. In 2015, after spending much of his time writing new music, Diego Valadez (Cellador) met with drummer Peter Vasquez (Angel Sinestro). The two decided to form a band, giving an outlet to the material that was already in the works. They recorded their first demo under the band name 'Anthea.' This was accomplished with the help of some very talented studio musicians filling in for bass, guitar, screams, and additional vocals. While recording, Anthea had been simultaneously searching for permanent members and were soon joined by guitarists Juan Pina and Marcos Mejia, as well as bassist Eric Guerrero. With a combination of clean operatic vocals and black metal like screams, Anthea's music can appeal to a wide variety of metal fans. "Guitarist Juan Pina’s screams and Valadez’ clean vocals kept the dynamics interesting and brought out the extra push for something unique in comparison to what you would normally find in the majority of symphonic metal acts." - Jason Williams (Metal Assault)."The band aren’t afraid to heavy things up if they deem it necessary for the advancement of the song, meaning that The Anthea (Demo) is a varied and satisfying listening experience." Ferry Templeton (Sentinel Daily).Anthea has performed live opening for bands such as September Mourning, Helion Prime, Graveshadow, and Abigail Williams at some historic venues such as the Whiskey a Go Go and the Hollywood Viper Room. The band have also been featured on several podcasts, radio and television programs. Some members of Anthea have domestic as well as international touring experience.Anthea signed to Rockshots Records in 2020, with their debut album "Illusion" set to be released on October 23rd of the same year.

Album:

ANTHEA are a Melodic, Symphonic Metal band from Los Angeles, CA. The band creates a unique theatrical sound blending Progressive, Power, and Thrash Metal elements, with a grand, cinematic edge. “Tales Untold” is their latest offering, and contains ten tracks. The title track is the first cut. It begins with a rich and grand composition thick with keys and Symphonic elements. As is common in this style, it borders on Power Metal. Diego had a very strong voice, and some harsh vocals are mixed in at times. “Ascendence” is a shorter song, but with no fewer grandiose elements. The harsh vocals bring a bit of an edge to the music, while the piano brings some of the melody.“Song for Winter” begins with pretty piano notes and a lively, but melancholic sound. This track drips with emotion from a poignant, longing elements. “The Deceiver” is a darker song, as the title suggests, with an aggressive bottom end and some more “get-up-and-go” haste. This song goes straight for your throat. The chorus is rich and full and brings the melody in smooth tones. “Sapiens” opens with drums and some Middle Eastern elements. Keyboards whip into a frenzy and a bright and burning energy flows from Diego’s fingers. This a very well-crafted song which says a lot in a tight amount of time. “Memoriam” begins with clean, and somber tones from acoustic guitars and light strings. Diego’s voice is the highlight of this song.“Looking Glass” is an energetic romp filled with melodies and a heavier sound. The bass guitar thumps away while keys and strong drumming fill in the empty spots. The album is gaining speed and direction. “Empyrean” begins with a more aggressive sound, from a thick riff and supporting keys. It darts in and out of the light along the way, keeping the listener on their toes. “Sunder Heart” opens with symphonic elements and harsh vocals. The song has a good deal of energy, and the keyboard solo following the bridge is absolutely fantastic. “In Time” closes the album, with a tender and pretty song showcasing the band’s strong sense of melody, and what a hefty vocal performance! You cannot help to sing along with this chorus, trust me.Although it’s safe to say that this style has now been done thousands of times, I find ANTHEA’s interpretation to be both fresh and personal. What they have accomplished on the album is a great sense of balance. Each instrument has a place and plays together in a synergy that is real. The musicians are also quite skilled. Any fans of Symphonic or Melodic Metal will find this album to their liking.

Album:

Los Angeles-based symphonic metal act Anthea return with “Beyond The Dawn”, a record that stands as the most complete and self-assured statement of their career to date.Rather than merely expanding their established formula, the band refine and consolidate their identity, delivering an album that feels deliberate in every aspect - from songwriting to arrangement, from production choices to thematic direction. At its core, “Beyond The Dawn” is an exercise in balance and control. Anthea navigate seamlessly between high-velocity compositions driven by sharp, melodic death-influenced riffing and tightly locked rhythmic work, and broader, more atmospheric passages where orchestration and harmonic layering unfold with precision. What distinguishes the album is not simply its range but the discipline with which that range is handled: transitions feel organic, dynamics are carefully measured and each track contributes to a clearly defined overall arc.A significant step forward emerges in the vocal and orchestral architecture. The addition of the Sirens introduces a new harmonic depth, reinforcing the band’s theatrical dimension without diluting the weight of the guitars. Clean vocals, layered choirs and occasional harsher passages are integrated with a stronger sense of purpose, resulting in arrangements that feel both richer and more focused. From a production standpoint, the album benefits from a clear and intentional sonic vision. Produced, mixed and mastered by Diego Valadez, “Beyond The Dawn” achieves a level of definition that enhances both impact and readability. The guitars cut through with clarity, maintaining aggression without sacrificing articulation, while the orchestral elements are embedded within the mix rather than sitting on top of it. The rhythm section provides a solid, controlled backbone, allowing the more expansive elements to develop without overwhelming the core structure.Lyrically, the record moves along a dual axis. On one side, there is a strong introspective component - reflections on growth, uncertainty and the constant negotiation between past experience and forward momentum. On the other, Anthea explore more narrative and symbolic territories, drawing from nature, history and imaginative scenarios to expand the album’s thematic scope. This interplay gives the material a broader resonance, maintaining immediacy while opening space for interpretation.Date of release 17.04.2026.
