The project appeared in spring 2009 as a result of former cooperation of Yaroslav Badradinov (keys), Maria Nosyk (vocals) and Sergey Yukhno (bass). Together friends started their work on the available draft material and simultaneously launched a search of missing participants for the band. The first positive results showed in Daniil Gaivoronsky (drums) joining the band, however, the position of a guitar player continued to be vacant. After some more unsuccessful auditions the band made a decision to temporarily pass the guitar duties to Maria but went on searching for a guitar player at the same time.Meanwhile, the band realized they were facing a necessity to supplement feminine vocals with a more harsh male timbre, therefore, Yaroslav began to perform extreme vocal parts. So while a part of the team was busy mastering new skills, the “guitar casting” yielded into completion of the line up with Vadym Phesenkko (guitar). Finally, the line up as it appeared was approved in August 2009 and the same year in November the first gig was played in the Mortalium’s native city.Gaining speed gradually, the band celebrated their first anniversary with the release of EP “On the Broken Wings”, recorded at the Deviant Studio. Official release of the EP took place later, in January 2011 at Siore Immelstorn Records in St. Petersburg.EP was followed by recordal of the debut long play album. “A Gap between Birth and Death” became an experiment of implementing the elements of death, folk, progressive metal into the gothic doom basis. Long but productive work on the album was completed in spring 2012.Sure it is not solely to studio work that guys owe their stable development. More than 50 gigs have been played in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus over 3 years of activity. The band was twice a participant of Ukrainian National Festival “Shag Navstrechu” (“A Step Forward”), an international festival of metal music “Frames Motion Fest” (Moscow, Russia), took part in an international metal festival “Metal Crowd-2011” (Rechitsa, Belarus) and tried themselves in a short Ukrainian tour “Spellbound Dark Travel Ukraine Tour” together with Russian bands Arcanorum Astrum, Откровения дождя (Otkroveniya Dozhdya), Grey Heaven Fall and Morbid Violence.Music is not just a way of self-expression for Mortalium. The basis for their creative work is an aspiration to reveal the “core idea” to a listener, create his mood, make him feel, help to realize brevity of our existence and encourage to think over its sense to either stand up and walk towards his dream or escape from reality to eternal emptiness. The members of the band treat motion as vital means to realize what is conceived, with it curtailed sketches become full songs and immaterial ideas give life to apparent results.
