Style : Progressive Metal , Progressive Power Metal
Country : United States
Audio : 320 kbps + scans
Size : 143 mb

Bio:

Founded in early 1999 by Dustin Mitchell and split-up in August 2014 after Mitchell retired from the music business. They officially reformed on July, 2023.Salt Lake City prog-metal group Katagory V were one of those bands whose debut work created quite a buzz, but internal and external forces threatened to undermine all of their hard work. Formed in 1999, Katagory V was the coming together of guitarist Curtis Morrell and bassist Dustin Mitchell. The two added drummer Matt Suiter, guitarist Ryan Taylor, and vocalist Lynn Allers. In 2000, the band entered the studio to record their first album, Present Day, which would hit stores in 2002 as an independent release. As the writing of the follow-up album commenced, the band lost guitarist Ryan Taylor (who would be replaced once recording of the album was completed by Trevor Asire) and delays in the release of said album would start to put strain upon the band. Eventually — finally — in January of 2004, the album (A New Breed of Rebellion) was ready to go. The band decided not to let go of the momentum, and chose a new recording regimen to performance, and completed their next album, The Rising Anger, in 2005. Released in 2006, it was followed up in 2008 by the Nightmare Records' released Hymns of Dissension.

Album:

KATAGORY V formed in 1999 as the premier Progressive Metal act out of Utah. Though the band hails from the United States, thier style of music and their largest fanbase is across the pond over in Europe. Katagory V has played the very coveted “Prog-Power Festival” held annually in Atlanta Georgia where the band increased their US fanbase and continued to get more world-wide attention. After 4 strong studio albums Katagory V recorded a new record titled “Resurrect The Insurgence” which was mixed & mastered by Pink Cream 69’s renowned Dennis Ward. Unfortunately the album got shelved and only recieved a limited digital release in 2015. Katagory V disbanded soon after.Since then, the band has received many messages from their fans begging the band to release a CD press of the album. Then it is Metallic Blue Records who refused to see this really good album not get a proper release and teamed up with Katagory V for a reissue and get world-wide distribution. “Resurrect The Insurgence” now comes with improved artwork. With a style influenced by Queensryche, Dream Theater, Circus Maximus, etc, mixed with melodic metal / hard rock, this is a very welcomed reissue. This quintet is one of the more versatile progressive metal acts from the US scene from the last two decades – and this 10 track record continued that outlook, becoming a fitting epitaph to their discography. Those who expect well-thought material that features tight tempo changes and stunning guitar harmonies/rhythms will find “Crash Down” and “I Am Change” delectable. On the flip side you’ll hear one of the heaviest Katagory V songs ever in “Sinister Seduction” as well as the band flirting with AOR-tinges in terms of vocal and musical harmonies on “My Insurrection”.Vocalist Al Rybka gives this material additional multi-faceted substance, a true progressive singer as he can hit everything from classic Geoff Tate to Fates Warning’s Ray Alder – check out his lower register during the quieter “Sins of the Son” and soaring eagle note abilities during the end of “The Search for Control”.Gaining the mixing/mastering experience of Dennis Ward, the production skills of bassist/guitarist Dustin Mitchell are exemplary, standing toe to toe with the best from the late 80s to mid-90s melodic progressive metal platters. Finally hitting the market on CD (the album was recorded 2010), fans of the genre should be proud that ”Resurrect the Insurgence” didn’t end up solely in the hands of the band. Good records remain timeless.

Released in 2006, it was followed up in 2008 by the Nightmare Records' released Hymns of Dissension.

Album:

The band have signed a deal with Metallic Blue Records / High Roller Records, the first result of which is the brand new work ‘Awaken A New Age Of Chaos’.Katagory V are a progressive power metal band formed in Salt Lake City, Utah, in early 1999. Their full-length debut »Present Day« was released in 2001, followed by four more albums: »A New Breed Of Rebellion« (2004), »The Rising Anger« (2006), »Hymns Of Dissension« (2007) and finally »Resurrect The Insurgence« (2015).The band has now inked a deal with High Roller Records, the first result being their brand new effort »Awaken A New Age Of Chaos«. The album was recorded by Dustin Mitchell (bass), Curtis Morrell (guitar) and Matt Suiter (drums), all from the original line-up, plus singer Albert Rybka and their newest addition, Dan Coxey on second guitar.“The album was recorded and mixed over a four-year time span at Streamline Sound here in our hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah,” explains founding member and bassist Dustin Mitchell. “The studio is owned by one of our songwriters and guitarist, Curtis Morrell, and we produced it ourselves, with Alan Douches (Fates Warning, Cannibal Corpse) mastering it.”With riff-heavy stuff like “Empire Of Ignorance” and “Blood Siphon” or more melodic numbers such as “Absolute Divide” or “Through Fate’s Eyes” »Awaken A New Age Of Chaos« turns out to be a masterpiece of contemporary progressive power metal. In the past, people have compared Katagory V to Fates Warning, Queensryche, Hades, Sanctuary and Lethal, which doesn’t seem to be too far off the mark: “Yes, those are bands we are certainly influenced by for sure, but we also are influenced by a lot of the speed/thrash/doom bands of the late 80s and early 90s as well old school thrash bands, such as Realm, Death Angel, Helstar, Flotsam & Jetsam, Atrophy, and we also are influenced by a lot of the heavier melodic hard rock bands, especially ones from Germany, like Bonfire or Jaded Heart.”This should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from Katagory V if you haven’t heard of them before.Overall, »Awaken A New Age Of Chaos« possesses a distinctively dark mood, which is pretty unusual for the band. “Oh yes, very much so,” confirms the bassist. “This is a much darker, angrier album, darker than anything we’ve done in the past, maybe with a slight exception to our second album, which is also a bit darker and thrashier. Over the course of our career as a band, we have taken several solid punches to the gut, which is why we retired a decade ago, so it’s only natural that those feeling are going to come out in our music.”
