Year : 2014
Style : Hard Rock , Glam Metal
Country : United States
Audio : 320 kbps + front
Size : 155 mb

Bio:

The Erotics are electrifying the world of rock-n-roll with a fistful of snarl and a full dose of snotty attitude and sneers. Lead by founding member Mike Trash, The Erotics, Trash (Lead Guitar, Vox), Johnny Riott (Drums/Percussion), and Billy Bear (Bass Guitar) deliver unapologetically raw rock-n-roll with unabashed reality, infectious hooks, and a sly knack for sarcasm. From the punk rock beginnings of their debut release in 1996 and through the years and seven records in culminating with this year's newest record Boulevard Of Choking Screams, the 8th for the band, The Erotics have cultivated a sound harking back to the days when rock-n-roll was real, dirty, and unwashed. But with an ear for catchy refrains, sleazy riffs, driving rhythms, and more low-slung guitar swagger then a surly James Dean, The Erotics have set themselves apart by not only capturing the essence of rock-n-roll rebellion, but also by infusing it with a new, refreshing sound that could very well be what saves it.As one of the best kept (not-so) secrets in rock, The Erotics are riding the wave of the new rock-n-roll resurgence and are leading the charge, poised to expose themselves and sleazy, kick-ass rock-n-roll to the entire world.

Line Up:

Mike Trash - Lead Guitar/ Vocals
Billy Beer - Bass Guitar / B Vox

Album:

It’s no secret that I’ve long been an admirer of The Erotics and Mike Trash’s ability to write the prefect ‘fits in the air’ punk-fuelled sleazy barroom rocker and so whenever a new release rears its head I know its gonna have been worth the wait (I’m still waiting for a copy of their recent collection ‘20 Years Of Nothing To Show For It‘ though).‘United We Don’t Stand’ is 8 songs of The Erotics at their finest – a glorious collection of hard driving rock ‘n’ roll mayhem that fuses punk and sleaze effortlessly whilst delivering typically well observed lyrics rife with sarcasm and with a thankful total disregard for political correctness. There’s an almost traditional hard rock template to opening track ‘Steroids and Cocaine’ that reminds you of bands like The Almighty in their pomp, it’s almost like Thin Lizzy’s down and out cousin turning to punk and the bottle. There’s still that gravel of the Dogs D’Amour in the background but this is louder, more classically melodic and with a solo that screams 80s hard rock. It’s a great start that quickly shuffles into ‘Ain’t Talkin’ To You’ which again rides a more traditional rock groove but again with a punky undertone. And the bright start really never fades: ‘Big Beautiful Wheels’ is the sleazy stutter gang-vocalled rocker again replete with great solo and punky bass-line driving it along. And man! The title track is all that I love about The Erotics when they get back to the “it’s only rock ‘n’ roll” basics in the Ramones meets Hanoi meets Punk meets Sleaze cauldron. It also comes out dripping, sporting a helluva chorus; a little more understated than some maybe, but again there’s a really well tailored solo and a little lighter tone than the rockers that have preceded – its a pop infused punk ditty that sticks like glue.‘Crawlin’ on Broken Glass’ that follows is traditional barroom Erotics rock ‘n’ roll, sleazy, dirty and dripping with melody: its good time rock ‘n’ roll you can dance to, dink to, sing to or pretty much anything except operate heavy machinery to.’Only When I Bleed’ is another sure fire winner and you know that right from the opening riff. It’s sing along ‘swinging the bottle’ party rock with sleazy edge and shout along sing along ‘nah-nah-nah’ refrain – brilliant! We close with two other fine specimens: ‘Pretty Little Bomb’ finds its groove from the off too but sounds more New York Dolls/ Hanoi Rocks as it staggers around with drink in hand and ingratiates itself with you by buying you a drink and exchanging gang vocal shouts and another nice lick of a solo. On the other arm ‘Whoreified’ that ends this album rides a heavier riff with more Cooperesque vocals and a darker aspect as it crawls out of the speakers spitting and spluttering and again I love the solo. It’s a great way to close another fiery chapter. How these guys keep up this quality I’m not sure but with music the way it has been for the last 20 years they’re one of the bands that’s made it a little more exciting for my ears and long may they continue to do so!

Line Up:

Mike Trash- Driving The Last Train
Billy Beer- Four string gravity chasers
Johnny Riott - rolling thunder
Doug Reynolds-Guitar & backing vox

02. Ain't Talkin' to You
03. Big Beautiful Wheels
04. United We Can't Stand

08. Whorified

Album:

Nine albums, a couple of compilations and several other releases over a career that spans over 20 years have made Albany’s The Erotics one of the few bands I can say never disappoints. After last years EP ‘Stuck Between Venus and Mars’ we were promised something special and this is it – 13 tracks (9 new, 4 remastered versions of songs from the EP) plus a bonus cover of Celtic Frost’s ‘Cherry Orchards.’We open with six shots of the new stuff, kicking off with the suitably raucous ‘Angel, Devil & Me’ which kicks ass from the onset , a frantic riff-rocker to set the blood racing. That’s followed by the dark, down and dirty rock and roll of ‘Blood Of The Wasted’ that begins with a walk out into the New York night before the drums and guitar kick in to deliver a punky take on early Kiss. The barroom anthem ‘Things We Do In The Night’ adds cowbell and a suitably cool riff and chorus to draw you in to singing along and the straight up Rock and Roll of ‘Midnight Creatures’ is as gritty as it is sublime. This is The Erotics in the form of their lives! The punky, spiky ‘Dirty Little Secret’ keeps the hooks coming and the all fired up ‘Steroids & Cocaine’ gets those heads banging before we’re reintroduced to the EP Tracks ‘Stop, Drop, & Roll’ a dirty stuttering ditty that builds on a huge riff before Mike Trash’s whiskey-soaked vocal gives a feel of vintage AC/DC to the murky mix; and ‘Nice Things’ which is a late night chant-along classic that really makes me think off all those East Coast proto-punk bands of the seventies washed through with the dirty sheen of eighties Rock and Roll revivalists like The Dog’s D’Amour. Mike Trash has always had the knack of landing a huge chorus and this is certainly one of his biggest!More new tracks follow: the bump and grind of the attitude-laden ‘Ain’t Talkin’ To You’ and the whiskey-soaked rock and roller ‘Pretty Little Bomb’ which sandwich two more remastered tracks from the recent EP.And those just happen to be two of my favourite tracks and ones which lead us towards the close of the album. ‘I Dismember You’ is a wonderful, fresh, sleazy trashy number, that really recalls Tyla’s vocals with The Dogs D’Amour. It’s the type of song that drew me to this band in the first place and they nail it like no other, with a typically chant-along refrain and tongue-in-cheek lyric. ‘Best Song Of The Night’ though is the curve-ball – it’s a song that, dare I say it, has a hint of ‘Every Rose has its Thorn’ about it, a cool, bluesy heartfelt ballad that works on every level. It might rather stick out on this release but there’s no disputing its a great song and the other side of Trash’s songwriting.Closer ‘Only When I Bleed’ takes us out in style with a pacy Pop-Punk anthem made to sing along and stamp your feet and throw your arms around to. Its the song to start the party all over again.Bonus Track ‘Cherry Orchards’ is indeed a cover of the Celtic Frost classic which of course always had that early Metallica meets Motley Crue chug to it,and it sounds remarkably at home here!‘The Songs Remain Deranged’ is a late-night ‘destroy the neighbors and play it loud’ album, heavier and weightier than recent offerings. All in all spikier, punkier and dirtier than these guys have sounded in a while and a great way to re-fire the engines. The Erotics have done it again.

Album:

Just What the Devil Ordered is an album that you can feel the dirt under its fingernails, and it kicks the door clean off its hinges and plants its boots on the table, spilling a few bottles as it does. This is The Erotics fully realised, full of fire, and absolutely certain of their own vaulted mythology. As I always say when a new record hits – these guys should be HUGE!From the opening bars of the subtly titled ‘Necro City’ you know you’re in familiar, dangerous territory. That unmistakable Trash guitar tone is simply gutter-glam snarl: part late-night noir, part dark graveyard delight. It’s a song on a record that sounds like it was recorded live right as you listen. Subtlety is clearly for suckers! There’s chaos in the guitar grind, but a shimmer too and it is all just so unapologetically loud! The rhythm section stalks, smashes and hits hard. There’s a real tightness here that only comes from years of shared stages and shared scars. Where earlier albums flirted with excess for the thrill of it, this one seems to channel that excess with precision. It’s wonderfully controlled yet gloriously reckless at heart. What strikes hardest is the confidence of tracks like ‘Horns Hold My Halo’. This isn’t a band chasing relevance or retro cool; this is a band defining its own lane and daring anyone else to keep up.The hooks hit with more impact, the grooves just swing harder, and the arrangements show a maturity that sharpens everything. There’s a real cool 80’s groove that hints at depth and reverence behind the decadence, man so far Just What the Devil Ordered is so cool.‘Nightmares of Lullabies’ has a slice of Sex Pistols attitude in the refrain. Trash just understands the cost of indulgence and sings about it without ever surrendering the thrill of it all. That balance has always been his secret weapon. I’ve said in earlier reviews that Trash writes sin like poetry; here he writes it like barroom scripture.Lyrically, Trash remains the high priest of temptation and I love ‘Just Another Thing’ that has that swagger of early Dogs D’Amour and trashy New York Punk sound. It’s one of my absolute standouts (well one of the 8!). ‘Trapped in Nowhere’ that follows hot on the stacked heels is simply unstoppable sleazy fun and boasts the great line “The only way out of this Earth is in a rocket or a shiny hearse”…‘Sweet Beautiful Lies’ crawls in across the beer stained floor and swaggers and stumbles drunkenly to the bar. The production deserves credit for refusing to sand off the grit. There’s warmth in the mix, but it’s the kind that comes from analogue glow rather than digital polish. Guitars breathe, drums crack, basslines prowl. Nothing feels overcrowded, nothing feels remotely safe, it all just sounds wonderfully raw. It sounds like a band in a room, right next to you, sweat dripping, ears burning, just like it should be.‘I See Enemies’ is full tilt punk attitude and a sure fire fast fix live. And closer ’11 Dead Roses’ leads us out with the strummed acoustic antithesis of all that’s come before. It’s those textures that make The Erotics so unique and long may it continue.I’ve championed Mike Trash for years because he’s never taken the obvious route. While trends rose and collapsed around him, he doubled down on storytelling, swagger and substance. This album reinforces that stubborn artistic streak. But Just What the Devil Ordered isn’t a reinvention and it isn’t a nostalgia trip. It’s more of the same quality you would expect from a band that refuses to grow up or grow old.For those of us who’ve been riding shotgun with Mike Trash’s musical misadventures for years, it’s confirmation that the fire hasn’t dimmed — it’s burning cleaner, hotter and brighter than ever. The album is out now on Cacophone Records.
