Bio:

Romeo's Daughter are a British AOR mainstream rock band featuring Leigh Matty, Craig Joiner and Anthony Mitman. The band released two albums in 1988 and 1993 respectively. The band then reformed in 2009 and have toured extensively, as well as releasing new material: a live EP of past hits and an album of new material Rapture in 2012.The manager of the band was Olga Lange, then the wife of Robert John "Mutt" Lange. Mutt Lange was impressed by their song-writing abilities and agreed to produce (part of) their debut album. Hence, Romeo's Daughter was often seen as protégés of Mutt Lange. The first album contained the singles "Don't Break My Heart", "I Cry Myself to Sleep at Night", covered by Bonnie Tyler and Chrissy Steele and "Heaven in the Back Seat", the latter from the A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child soundtrack. The album was produced by Mutt Lange and John Parr. "Wild Child" (written by Mutt Lange) was later covered by Heart on the Brigade album, and "Heaven in the Back Seat" was covered by Eddie Money on his 1991 album, Right Here. The second album, Delectable was a more mature affair, although it was released on the smaller Music for Nations label so got less exposure. Mitman went on to work with FM and other bands while the band quietly broke up in the mid 1990s.

Album:

Easily among my favorite female-fronted Melodic Rock albums of all time, ROMEO’S DAUGHTER self-titled debut “Romeo’s Daughter” received a Rock Candy remastering treatment plus 3 bonus tracks. The sound quality on this remaster is simply awesome, no doubt one of the best done by this prestigious reissue label.Fronted with a marvelous sense of style by golden voiced Leigh Matty and supported by a team of grade-A band members and session musicians, “Romeo’s Daughter” blazed a path – with impassioned vocals, great production and songs to die for – through the Melodic Rock hinterlands during the late ’80s collapsing in an exhausted heap at the finishing line.Produced by the legendary Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange and songwriter/performer John Parr, two of the hottest names in the business, and signed to the emerging powerhouse of Jive Records, the odds were stacked very much in Romeo’s Daughter’s favour.Sadly, despite lashings of great press, radio play and an exploratory trip to the US market, the promise was never fully realised.Originally issued in 1989, the album courted instant critical praise not only for its quality and sophistication but also for the way it bought British Melodic Rock back into sharp focus after years spent in the doldrums.Compared with such mega luminaries as Heart and Def Leppard this album should have sold millions and propelled Romeo’s Daughter to fame and fortune.Instead, we have been left with a rare example of one of the most complete and criminally overlooked albums of the late Eighties. All songs on “Romeo’s Daughter” are pure gold, all Melodic Rock / AOR gems crafted with clinical precision and awesomely recorded / produced. Even the 3 bonus tracks were recorded live in 1990 with an incredible crystal clear sound.“Romeo’s Daughter” is simply fantastic, and as said, this remaster is Superb. Request fulfilled, place yours!

Album:

“Delectable“, ROMEO’S DAUGHTER second album fortunately remastered by Rock Candy with pristine quality including a bonus track.Romeo’s Daughter were UK’s answer to the popular American Melodic Rock bands such as Heart, Journey and Foreigner, with a slick sound designed by the incredible studio wizard John ‘Mutt’ Lange.‘Mutt’ Lange handled Romeo’s Daughter debut album and was slated to produce “Delectable” as well. Fate, however, had something else in mind. The band was delayed due to Mutt’s schedule and, eventually, had to move on without him. They also lost their record label and were forced to go the independent route.Unfortunately, “Delectable” arrived too late, when the musical climate already changed, and the band was unable to break in America and ended up as one of the bands in the ‘should have made it’ file.Switching to the independent Music For Nations label, they took the bull by the horns and got back to work crafting a stunning follow up to their critically lauded debut.“Delectable” is a record stuffed to the gills with choice songs and exceptional vocal performances from Leigh Matty, proving that the band’s worth was just as valuable if not more so.Among the pearls on this record there’s the upbeat “Have Mercy” which sounds like it could easily be reworked into a Def Leppard classic. “Addicted To The Animal” should have been a huge hit as sports an irresistible melodic line. The band sounds pretty Americanized on “Nothing But Love”, specially on the catchy chorus, “God Only Knows” is a heartfelt track as is the beautiful mid-tempo AOR “Treat Me Like A Lady”.Bonus track “Talk Dirty To Me” (originally a single B-side only) is just as tantalizing as the title sounds.Of All the British melodic rock groups operating out of the UK during the late ’80s Romeo’s Daughter were, undoubtedly, viewed as the great white hope; they were the saviours of the scene, the band most likely to succeed.Released in 1993, that “Delectable” ultimately failed to secure a foot hold to enormo-dome success was not the fault of the band or record, but more a sign of the times. Yet despite everything it remains one of the most revered Melodic Rock albums of the period.Really good Rock Candy 24-bit remastering from original source tapes, plus 3,000 word essay about the making of the album, interview with the band and additional photos spread out over a 12 page full colour booklet.

Album:

ROMEO’S DAUGHTER were back in business after almost 20 years with this 3rd album “Rapture”. The sophomore album ‘Delectable’ was as strong as the self-titled debut, but it just never worked out. This was ‘93 and grunge had taken a hold of the music industry. They were highly thought of by their peers, with songs of theirs covered by Heart, Eddie Money and many more.So fast forward almost 20 years and it turns out Romeo’s Daughter never broke up. They made a successful return at Firefest in 2010 and decided to give it another shot. And am I thankful that they did!The great UK Melodic Rock / AOR band retains the original line-up; fronted by female vocalist Leigh Matty and expertly backed by guitarist Craig Joiner, Tony Mitman on keyboards, Ed Poole on bass and drummer Andy Wells.Songwriter-in-chief Craig Joiner has delivered a set of songs planted firmly in the classic Romeo’s Daughter mould. “Rapture” sounds and feels as the immediate successor to ‘Delectable’.Opening track “Tripping Out” contains all the Romeo’s Daughter hallmarks – catchy chorus, great riffs, and the excitable vocals of Leigh Matty.Follower “Bittersweet” is another track that just rolls out of the Joiner song factory and is the kind of song I’d hear all day long on the radio. Really commercial and accessible.“Cannot Be The One” is firmly set at mid paced, a sweet melody perfectly driven by Matty soaring vocals. It’s a classy early nineties AOR tune full of magic.“Keep Walking” falls into the rock-socks bracket that made this band famous and is one of the best songs on ‘Rapture’ by a country mile.“Lightning” is a track that would be welcomed on radio airwaves all day long. A cleverly composed ballad to appeal old school fans and new listeners.“Alive” is a song I’d imagine Robin Beck singing all those years ago, and it’s a pure AOR sing a long/foot tappin’ track for driving or jogging. My favorite song on the album.“Fly Away” makes for one solid first half of an album. It’s lightweight, but in a good way, and it doesn’t have to shout from the rooftops to be a good song.“Talking Love” is another highlight. This band really knows how pen a glorious melody, and it’s clearly represented here, a superb midtempo Melodic Rock track to die for.“He’s Mine” is again as catchy as a baseball glove covered in molasses, while on the last track “Will Be” Romeo’s Daughter goes acoustic with taste and emotion.Romeo’s Daughter – and guitarist / songwriter Craig Joiner in particular – have something to be proud of here. “Rapture” stands on par with any of the previous albums.Craig’s songwriting is in pure form, and together with Leigh Matty’s (still) sumptuous vocals they have come up with an album that shows they’ve returned with a class and hopefully a (headlining) tour will follow.Released by themselves, “Rapture” is full of marvelous melodies and sounds a million bucks, perfectly recorded and produced.Great comeback album, now out of print.

Line-Up:

British AOR Melodic Rockers ROMEO’S DAUGHTER will release their new album, “Spin” on April 20, 2015 via RD Records/Cargo Records. The album artwork and a video sampler can be viewed below. This is the eagerly awaited 4th studio album from ROMEO’S DAUGHTER. It is slightly darker in its lyrical content than the last 3 but still has the sound that fans of ROMEO’S DAUGHTER have grown to love. The new songs received an incredible reception at HRH 2015. Their stunning lead singer, Leigh Matty, was voted Number 5 Lady Rock Singer of all time in Classic Rock Magazine and their single ‘Bittersweet‘ was in their ‘Top songs of 2012‘ chart. The band’s pedigree is second to none, with each member having previously worked at the highest levels with artists such as: Bonnie Tyler, Whitney Houston, Roxette, Meatloaf, Tom Jones, John Parr, Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ Kevin Rowland and, Ex GoGo, Jane Wiedlin! From the release of their debut Album in 1988, produced in part by the infamous Robert John ‘Mutt’ Lange, it was surely to be only a matter of time before ROMEO’S DAUGHTER hit the headlines. The calibre of their songs attracted many established artists; Heart covered the single ‘Wild Child’ on their 3 million selling album ‘Brigade’, achieving No. 2 on the Billboard Rock All Play chart. Eddie Money, Bonnie Tyler and the recently reformed Steps too, have had recording successes with other Romeos’ titles. Album:

Fronted by the velvety voice of Leigh Matty, ROMEO’S DAUGHTER is easily one of the most beloved British female fronted AOR mainstream rock band since the late ’80s. The band came together under the direction of uber producer Robert “Mutt” Lange, who along with guitarist songwriter and guitarist Craig Joiner and renowned John Parr, worked hard on the songs & production and, armed with a contract with Jive Records, issued the single “Heaven In The Backseat”, a hit that brought together elements of both Heart and Belinda Carlisle while retaining an “English’ sound. After a many years disbanded, ROMEO’S DAUGHTER returned during the past year with a very good album and shows. To coincide with the February 2020 tour, the band released by themselves (physical CD only) this 6-song EP titled “Organik“, with acoustic versions of five of Romeo’s Daughter’s most well known and loved tunes plus a brand-new song thrown in for good measure.

Album:

"Romeo’s Daughter is thrilled to announce the release of 6th studio album "Slipstream". It is an album filled with songs that are synonymous with the RD sound that you know and love with a few surprises along the way! It has been made with love and the deep respect we have for our wonderful fans and we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it!".ROMEO'S DAUGHTER around frontwoman Leigh Matty have never ever disappointed. It's a mixture of a great voice, stunning songwriting across all ten tracks and an excellent production that can be found on "Slipstream". Lovers of VIXEN, HEART or CHEZ KANE and the like are going to be excited for sure, although there's a touch of classic rock and even some blues in the sound of the band. "Slipstream" absolutely belongs into each and every serious AOR/melodic collection and cool tracks like "Inseparable" or "I'll Make A Man Out Of You" will certainly become new live standards of the British outfit.
