Considered by many one of the most 'elegant' American AOR albums from 1989, it became a collectible as never was reissued until now, completely remastered with a pristine sound.Founded by songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Mick Benton in the mid-Eighties after being part of hard rockers Mother’s Ruin, musically his aim with Bite The Bullet was completely different: craft smooth AOR tunes plenty of accessible melodies and some rocking approach to appeal wide audiences.While American based, Bite The Bullet's sound is quite British, often compared with Dare, Strangeways and FM. I hear as well a 'Canadian' touch, that kind of sophistication from acts of this ilk during the '80s (Honeymoon Suite, Boulevard, etc).Opener "Change Of Heart" worth the album alone; pulsating bass lines, clean guitars, pristine vocals from Benton, synth flourishes and a heavenly multi-harmony layered chorus. This tune would've worked perfectly for the Top Gun soundtrack! Think Boulevard meets Dare.Follower 'Finished With Love' is another winner, with a FM / Overland feeling and that unique 1989 'atmosphere'. love the delicate synths, the strong guitar riff and that 'big' chorus.With 'Edge Of The Rain' the band's smoothness appears in all its glory, a midtempo AOR oozing class all over with a lovely keyboard arrangement. Not exactly a ballad, 'Cold Surprise' could have been composed by Darren Wharton and included into any early Dare albums.Strangeways-like melodies are the core of 'Running To Stand Still', then 'Dark Age' surprises with the aforementioned rocking approach via its strong guitars and quite punchy delivery, same with closer 'Watershed', yet more radio-friendly.For years impossible to find, "Bite The Bullet" belongs to your collection if you love that '80s magic, polished melodies and pristine production.Refined, distinguished, elegant smooth songs - no filler in my opinion - is what you get here, a varied collection of tunes with clever arrangements. They don't make albums like this anymore.

Thanks to the legendary Greg Lake, Benton managed to secure a solo deal with Atlantic Records and he asked Cowling to play drums. It's good to see that their collaboration is still strong to this very day. Bite The Bullet played in the style of Foreigner, Toto and Mr. Mister. An album was released in 1989 to some quiet success. The music was warmly received and the band earned some radio airplay. However, Britpop was coming into the forefront and a cancelled support slot with the mighty ELO saw the band disheartened and whilst they never really disbanded, there was a long period of inactivity.Benton and Cowling always remained friends and they still played in pubs and clubs over the years, which brings is up to 2019 when their debut was reissued on CD. It ignited a flame in the two men and brought the original recording back to the forefront again and old fans reappraised the album whilst new fans joined in. Mick and Graham decided to get writing new material for a second Bite The Bullet album and the result is outstanding, coming across like Mr. Mister meets Asia. The new songs are a natural continuation of the original BTB sound and have a great feel to them. Opener "Rock To Stones" is a killer. A great start to 2021!

Mick and Graham have continued writing new material and here we are with an exciting new third release "End Of The Line" and the result is amazing. The new songs have given the band a new fresh sound, bringing us into 2022. What a way to start the new year!

Rocky Road is the new album from Bite The Bullet. Originally formed in 1986 by Mick Benton, who had previously released a solo EP on Atlantic Records, and Graham Cowling along with Malcolm Jones, the band's first album was widely acclaimed at the time on both sides of the Atlantic receiving airplay on major radio stations. However with demise of Jet Records and lack of publicity from CBS, coupled with the loss of a worldwide support tour with the supergroup ELO, the band went into a 30-year hiatus.Mick, Graham and Malcolm carried on in cover bands playing hundreds of gigs in the UK and the BTB project was put on hold. In 2019 Mick was approached by Rock Candy Records and the original album was rereleased. This rekindled Mick and Graham to write new Bite The Bullet songs and they released "Black & White" in 2021, followed by "End Of The Line" in 2022, this time with original guitarist Malcolm Jones rejoining the band.Over the last few months the band has recruited new members Ant King on bass and Steve Hill on keyboards in order to play BTB’s music ‘live’ again and to record the latest album "Rocky Road".The band's music is melodic rock in the genre of Mr. Mister, Toto, Foreigner and Asia with British rock guitar overtones. The new album is loaded with 11 brand-new tracks, ranging from the dark hypnotic rocker "Dead Man Walking" to the beautifully melodic ballad "Waiting For You".

It just can’t get any better; the eleven songs on offer are just simply amazing. This is a really strong release; it could well prove to be their best to date. Release Date: 24th October 2025.
