Formed in Memphis, TN. in late 1989 by Todd Poole (vocals/guitar), Sid Fletcher (guitar), Josh Weil (bass) and Scott Trammell (drums). Roxy Blue started out playing original music from the get go, with their sights set on putting their music in front of a national then global audience. Knowing that their dreams were not gonna come easy, the guys put their all into step one of their journey, which was to get started playing every gig they could get and opening for every band they could, to get themselves noticed in the Memphis music scene. Crammed together in a studio apartment above Cotton Row Studios, the guys were constantly writing and recording new songs and living a 24 hour rock 'n' roll lifestyle miles and miles away from the Sunset Strip of Los Angeles. Quickly earning a name for themselves within the local music scene and selling out club shows, they soon created a buzz in the music industry. But it wasn't until one night while playing a local bar that they were approached by Jani Lane, the vocalist of Warrant, that things really started to take off. Jani loved what he heard and wanted to help get Roxy Blue’s career launched. Soon after, the labels started calling and eventually Geffen Records legendary A&R guru Tom Zutaut (Mötley Crüe, Guns N' Roses, Tesla) flew the band to Los Angeles to sign them. The band was soon signed to a management contract with Doug Thaler at Top Rock Management (Mötley Crüe, Winger). The next step was to find the right producer to record the band's debut album. Mike Clink, who had produced Guns N' Roses milestone "Appetite For Destruction" and - at the time - was finishing up the "Use Your Illusions I and II" albums was ultimately chosen for the job. Clink and Roxy Blue were a perfect match and the result was the 1992 release of "Want Some". Now, 25 years later, recently signed to Frontiers Records, Roxy Blue is still going on strong.

Terrific 1992 debut “Want Some?”, in its Japanese edition.History tells that Roxy Blue was discovered by Warrant singer Jani Lane, who helped the guys to get a record deal. Jani did some backing vocals here (as well as the greats Jimi Jamison and Tommy Funderburk) so it’s no surprise that Roxy Blue sounds a lot like Warrant or Trixter, however the Roxy’s were pretty unique, with a bluesy foundation and a bit of an early Van Halen / Skid Row edge.“Want Some?” is a killer collection of catchy, toe-tapping hard rock tunes with a polished production courtesy of Mike Clink, the who’s responsible for GNR’s Appetite For Destruction.It’s guitar driven album with high-octane guitar shreds, where “Too Hot To Handle” crank up the heat, and the intensity is maintained through “Rob The Cradle”, “Main Attraction”, “Talk of the Town” (it sounds like it could have been on a Skid Row CD), and a superb cover of The Who‘s “Squeeze Box”.“Luv on Me” showed their tender melodic side, and the best-of-it-all is the loudest fast-pace “Love’s Got A Hold On Me”. Of course no melodic hard band from the era would be without the heartfelt power ballad, and in this case it is “Times Are Changin’”.Speaking of the ‘era’, unfortunately Roxy Blue and “Want Some?” arrived too late into the scene. With quality songs and great musicianship the group deserved more recognition, but aside from “Rob The Cradle” appearing on MTV a few times, grunge had started flooding the mainstream and bands such as Roxy Blue were doomed.However, for me, “Want Some?” remains as one of the greatest US hard rock albums from the late ’80s / early ’90s.Bad-ass band with a bad timing, but believe me, this is an impeccable stunning
