Bio:

Blackmore's Night is a British/American traditional folk rock duo formed in 1997, consisting of Ritchie Blackmore (acoustic and electric guitar) and Candice Night (lead vocals, lyricist and multi-instrumentalist). To date they have released nine studio albums; their latest, Dancer and the Moon, was released on June 11,2013.Candice was a Rainbow fan, and first encountered Ritchie Blackmore to ask him for an autograph in 1989, while she was working for a local New York radio station. The two started living together in 1991, and discovered they both had a passionate interest in Renaissance music.During the reformed Rainbow's recording of the album Stranger in Us All in 1995, on which Night contributed some of the lyrics and backing harmony vocals, the duo were already gearing up their debut album. Night's personality and singing ability made her the natural choice as frontwoman. In 1997 the project started as being a pun of their own names, which would consist of themselves plus session musicians.Their debut album Shadow of the Moon was a musical success and featured Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull on flute for the song "Play Minstrel Play". In subsequent albums, particularly Fires at Midnight, there was an increased incorporation of rock guitar into the music, whilst maintaining a folk rock direction. Over time, Night has increasingly participated instrumentally as well as singing the vocals, and is competent in a wide variety of Renaissance instruments. The group performs at Renaissance fairs and Renaissance Festivals, as well as in stand-alone concert tours in appropriate venues including 'castle tours' of Europe, where they perform in historic surroundings for an audience dressed largely in period costume. The duo has been successful enough to inspire a number of international tribute bands including: Renaissance Night, the Italian Morning Star and the Midnight. They have also performed the music for MagiQuest, a live simulation game.In 2006, Night performed a duet with Andi Deris on Helloween's "Light the Universe",which was released as a single in certain countries and is available on their album Keeper of the Seven Keys: The Legacy, released in the same year.On June 27, 2008, the duo released its seventh studio album called Secret Voyage, a mix of medieval-sounding tracks and some contemporary ones. In addition to some covers of some traditional folk music (“Locked Within the Crystal Ball" is from the fourteenth century) and some originals, Blackmore’s Night also performed a cover of a Rainbow song (“Rainbow Eyes”) and an Elvis Presley cover ("Can't Help Falling in Love").On October 5, 2008, Night and Blackmore were married after 19 years together. This is the fourth marriage for Blackmore.Autumn Esmerelda Blackmore was born on May 27, 2010. A new album titled Autumn Sky was released soon afterwards. Their son Rory Dartanyan was born on February 7, 2012.

Album:

Dancer and the Moon is the ninth studio album by the group Blackmore's Night, released on June 11, 2013. It entered at # 189 on USA's Billboard Album Charts. It was also nominated for NAR award in Best Vocal Album of the Year. This new album from legendary rock guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and singer-instrumentalist Candice Night is the pair’s 13th studio album. Like their previous work, the album’s songs represent an array of styles and genres, while maintaining a unique signature sound that no other rock duo has achieved: a mix of hard rock, medieval and classical -infused art rock, grad-folk, and gypsy stylings. It’s safe to say Blackmore’s Night shows no sign of slowing down or losing their edge, although I did note that, this time around, some songs are infused with a bit of country-pop crossover styling. Not a bad thing, but an interesting new layer.Maybe you’re like me: you came of age between the late 1970s and early 1980s and you enjoyed the interesting transitions happening in rock and roll and pop music at the time. Some of the progressive and art rock of the 1970s seemed to dovetail nicely with the new emphasis on electronic instrumentation. 1970s hard rock and heavy metal gave way to endless permutations of lighter fare, like the “hair metal” bands: so named when bands like Def Leppard, once a very respectable heavy metal band, gave in the pressure of popularity found via MTV’s ubiquitous music videos (remember those?) took to frosting their hair and posing in skin-tight nylon. No, they weren’t the only ones who did it, so let’s not pick on them.Maybe you witnessed Ozzy Osbourne’s break-off from Black Sabbath to do solo albums (heck, the “Blizzard of Oz” tour was my first concert ever. I used to be kinda embarrassed by that but now I think it’s kinda cool). Maybe you also recall a somewhat obscure project involving guitarist Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple and a diminutive but superb vocalist named Ronnie James Dio called Rainbow (though that group’s most remembered hit, a top ten single in the UK, “Since You Been Gone,” was with short-term vocalist Graham Bonnet).Rainbow was also known as Blackmore’s Rainbow, and saw changing personnel over the years (Dio, who also sang with Black Sabbath and was collaborating with its former members when he died in 2010, was replaced by Joe Lynn Turner, and the band evolved into a more mainstream sound).

Blackmore’s Night, Ritchie’s collaboration with singer Candice Night, formed in 1997 to enthusiastic reviews and they’ve been going strong ever since. Mr. Blackmore can these days be seen strolling with a lute at Renaissance faires, where the two often perform. Their earlier song “Renaissance Faire” (as shown in this bewitching live video) captures the spirit of these unusual and colorful events that are of course not unfamiliar to many pagans. This new album contains some Renaissance-flavored tunes (like “The Lost Leaf” and “Galliard”) and some with a pagan-folk-gypsy sound (like “Troika”). There are echoes of mid-1970sJethro Tull in “Minstrels in the Hall” (gee, that title sounds familiar somehow). I thought their rendition of English traditional song “The Ash Grove” was a bit tepid, and the opening song “I Think It’s Going to Rain Today” had that country-pop vocal styling that just didn’t, in my opinion, do justice to Ms. Night’s silvery voice, which sounds mystical and haunting on songs like “Somewhere Over the Sea” (a melodic love song that morphs into a hard rocking anthem with a whole new time signature). One fun surprise was their cover of “Temple of the King,” a song recorded by Rainbow with Dio back in the day. Night doesn’t have Dio’s raw power but the song nevertheless holds up well. Overall this is a well-produced, engaging and often evocative album. I think the arrangements are terrific (love those tambourines!) and the vocals very fine. Blackmore’s Night continues to be one of the most versatile rock duos out there, and they’re staying true to their roots with their incomparable musicality and command of multiple genres and styles.

Winter Carols is the sixth studio album by the group Blackmore's Night, released in the United Kingdom on October, 2006, and in the United States on November 7, 2006. It is a Christmas themed album. The cover artwork for this album, painted by Karsten Topelmann, is an adaptation of a street in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany, in line with the band's heavy Renaissance influence. The same street is portrayed in the cover of Blackmore's Night's second studio album, Under a Violet Moon. In the cover of "Winter Carols" the street is painted as winter time, whereas Under a Violet Moon's cover takes place on apparently a summer night. On December 2006, Winter Carols entered at #7 on USA Billboard New Age Charts. The album won the New Age Reporter Lifestyle Music Award as the Best Holiday Album.

Album:

On September 18, Frontiers Music Srl will release "All Our Yesterdays", the tenth studio album from BLACKMORE'S NIGHT, the renaissance-inspired rock band formed by Ritchie Blackmore and his wife Candice Night. The song "The Other Side" from "All Our Yesterdays" can be streamed below."All Our Yesterdays" will be released on a variety of formats: CD, CD/DVD and digital versions on September 18 and in LP and box set configurations on October 16.* CD/DVD Deluxe edition includes the full album plus a DVD with music videos for "All Our Yesterdays" and "Will O' The Wisp", plus an extensive interview with Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night on the making of the new album...* 2LP vinyl edition with a gatefold sleeve...* Box Set Limited Collector's edition includes CD/DVD deluxe edition, 2LP, tshirt (L size ONLY), poster, lithograph.BLACKMORE'S NIGHT vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Candice Night says: "There's a theme to 'All Our Yesterdays'' chosen songs that focuses on the attitude of living in the present, and looking toward the future, because we are, indeed, enriched by our past. My main theme and inspiration has always been nature and folklore from around the world."Candice Night and Ritchie Blackmore's lives and creative journeys have taken them through different characters and songs from a variety of times in history. That is part of the attitude in the song "Where Are We Going from Here", about a traveling minstrel's journey through life and age.The title track (and also the first single and video), "All Our Yesterdays", echoes the sounds of Candice's Russian roots, while a new song written by Germany's George Hesse is an old-style, fiddle-driven instrumental with the Welsh title "Allan yn y Fan" (meaning "Out There"). Ritchie's heritage includes family from Wales. The album also includes stunning instrumentals: the acoustic guitar piece "Queen's Lament" and the dramatic "The Darker Shade of Black" that spotlights violin and guitar.Elsewhere on the recording, "Earth Wind and Sky" is a delicate ode to nature. "The Other Side", a latter-day folk dance joins two jigs that Candice sings: "Coming Home" and the supernatural-themed "Will o' the Wisp"."All Our Yesterdays" gets further inspiration from Candice and Ritchie's home town, where they take part in community folk nights during which the neighbours share guitars and songs, and sing melodies that have come from a variety of times in their own history. That's how they fell in love with songs of various radio formats of years gone by. The album includes the Linda Ronstadt hit "Long Long Time" (penned by Gary White); the Mike Oldfield song "Moonlight Shadow"; and an inspiring Maypole Dance treatment of Sonny & Cher's "I Got You Babe".BLACKMORE'S NIGHT is a true musical and spiritual collaboration between vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Candice Night and her husband, legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. The two met in 1989 when DEEP PURPLE challenged Candice's then-radio station to a charity soccer match. In 1993 she sang on RAINBOW's "Difficult To Cure" tour. They co-wrote four songs for RAINBOW's "Stranger In Us All" and in 1997 they formed BLACKMORE'S NIGHT; they continue to play Faire Festivals all over the world.

Album:

2017 marks the twentieth anniversary of BLACKMORE'S NIGHT — the internationally heralded Renaissance rock band helmed by six-string extraordinaire Ritchie Blackmore and his wife, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Candice Night. To celebrate, the band will release "To The Moon And Back: 20 Years And Beyond…", a two-disc collection of favorites and new material, on August 18."To The Moon And Back" boasts three brand new songs: "Ghost Of John", which proudly introduces the vocals of Autumn Blackmore (the 6-year daughter of Blackmore and Night) at the close of the song, Blackmore's "Land Of Hope and Glory" (a reworking of British patriotic anthem "Pomp And Circumstance March No. 1", written in 1902), and a cover of favored RAINBOW tune "I Surrender", with Night providing the vocals.Additionally, the set includes re-recorded versions of catalog favorites "Moonlight Shadow", "Somewhere Over The Sea", "Coming Home", and "Writing On The Wall". This new material is buoyed with BLACKMORE'S NIGHT classics, such as "Shadow Of The Moon", "Ghost Of A Rose", and "Under A Violet Moon", and a live version of "Home Again", fully rounding out this best-of compilation. The included booklet displays a collage of memorabilia, showcasing live band photos, backstage passes, and tour flyers. Completing "To The Moon And Back" is a behind-the-scenes bonus video of Blackmore and Night rehearsing at a soundcheck, allowing fans an intimate glimpse of the band before a show."We hope you enjoy this musical journey down memory lane from 'Shadow Of The Moon'… our first release… through our brand new 2017 versions of old favorites and a new surprise song. 20 years of memorable music and beyond..." enthuse Blackmore and Night. The magic of BLACKMORE'S NIGHT is their ability to transport the listener to a bygone era, gathered around a fire or in an old renaissance tavern. Their sold-out concerts resemble that era, with band and fans alike decked out in Renaissance garb, losing themselves in the mirth of the music. This ambiance is created via Blackmore's dexterous movement between acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, mandola, cello, and hurdy gurdy, Night's ethereal vocals and command of seven medieval woodwind instruments (bagpipe, chanters, shawms, and pennywhistles, to name a few), and the consummate musicianship of keyboardist/back-up vocalist Bard David, violinist Scarlett Fiddler, back-up vocalist/shawm player Lady Lynn, bassist/rhythmic guitarist Earl Grey, and percussionist Troubadour of Aberdeen.

Album:

In the context of contemporary music, whether in the realms of Pop or Rock, the works of Blackmore’s Night are definitely a rarity. They are some of the best that the world music archive could ever offer.Formed in 1997, Blackmore’s Night consists primarily of Ritchie Blackmore (acoustic guitar, mandolin, hurdy gurdy, nyckelharpe, electric guitar) and Candice Night (lead vocals, woodwinds), plus a collective of various instrumentalists. Bonded by their love for Renaissance music, the couple have released 10 studio albums–from 1997’s Shadow of the Moon to 2015’s All Our Yesterdays––and a new one is slated to come out on March 12, 2021, via earMusic.Blackmore’s Night’s 11th opus, titled Nature’s Light, continues the duo’s indulgence in spine-tingling medieval Folk, a sound that conjures grasslands, steppes, bonfires, ales, knights, elves, and lore. It opens straightaway with its lead single–the moonlit, jaunty “Once Upon December,” which is perfect for a barnyard gathering of likeminded free spirits. Following next in similar mood, albeit slightly more graceful, is the equally melodic “Four Winds.”Time to pass the mugs of ale and roasted marshmallows as the melodrama of “Feather in the Wind” lingers with the evening breeze. The night then gets serious and somber as Blackmore’s Night delivers something initially haunting and ethereal–the slow, organ-drenched and string-orchestrated instrumental ballad, and almost dirge, “Darker Shade of Black,” which then transitions into an anthemic and subtly metallic epic. The benevolent revelers then rest their backs momentarily against the cushion trees as the ember burns steadily and the minstrels play the waltz “The Twisted Oak.” Blackmore’s Night then treat their audience to the highlight of the revelry–the storytelling part in the form of the grand aural mélange of the title-track, as if welcoming the arrival of something royal and high.Obviously paying homage to his Deep Purple and Rainbow roots, Blackmore, and Night with the rest of their troubadours, then launches into “Der-letzte-Muzketier [The Last Musketeer]”–an electric-guitar-driven mix of Blues, Classical, and Folk. Blackmore’s Night then rouse their now relaxing merrymakers with an electrifying song of longing, “Wish You Were Here.”An apt track to place near the end of the album, “Going to the Faire” is a song of journey and adventures, amidst a symphony of stringed instruments and a festival of flower-haired pilgrims. Finally, Blackmore’s Night wrap up their caravan of delight with the midtempo stomper “Second Element,” where Blackmore’s guitar virtuosity and Night’s powerful, rustic voice shine through till the end.In this time and age of danceable Pop and aggressive Rock–which, in fairness, are equally engaging works of sonic art–Blackmore’s Night’s compelling new addition to their oeuvre is truly indispensable. It is ready to satiate both the intellect and the spirits,

Album:

The band’s debut album “Shadow Of The Moon” (1997) was not only Blackmore’s deliberate radical cut from his previous life as celebrated rockstar in Deep Purple and Rainbow; it was a ground-breaking statement of his artistic ideals: mainly acoustic music, influenced by the songs of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance with a touch of genius that made them sound contemporary. “Shadow Of The Moon” was a milestone album. It encompasses everything that Blackmore’s Night stand for to this day: beautiful melodies and warm atmospheres that are able to reach the soul as well as joyful songs to dance to and to celebrate. The 25th Anniversary Edition of “Shadow Of The Moon” was converted in HD audio from the original recording, and it has been fully remixed, allowing the original performance to shine in its original glory. The original iconic artwork has been refreshed and reworked to celebrate the anniversary. Two previously unreleased acoustic recordings will be part of this reissue: “Spirit Of The Sea” and “Shadow Of The Moon”, both recorded in an intimate home session by Candice and Ritchie in 2022. All physical first print editions will also carry an exclusive “Shadow Of The Moon” documentary on DVD as bonus.

Album:

Following traditional Holiday music back to its roots, BLACKMORE’S NIGHT (Candice Night and Ritchie Blackmore) approach Christmas songs with their own unique styling. On November 19th, 2021, they will celebrate the holidays with the relaunch of their classic album ”Winter Carols”, a new Deluxe Edition available as a high-quality 2CD Digipak Edition. This 2021 version has been carefully remastered and contains these four tracks that were previously unavailable in this format: “Here We Come A-Caroling”, “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear”, “O Little Town Of Bethlehem” and “Silent Night”.Additionally, ”Winter Carols (Deluxe Edition remastered)” includes a remastered version of their timeless Christmas single “Christmas Eve”.Winter Carols is the sixth studio album by the group Blackmore's Night, released in the United Kingdom on October, 2006, and in the United States on November 7, 2006.
