Year : 2016
Style : Melodic Hard Rock
Country : United States
Audio : 320 kbps + front
Size : 103 mb

Bio:

Fierce Heart was a studio project conceived to issue a single album of the same title in 1985. All instruments were played by the US-based duo of Larry Elkins (vocals, bass) and Rex Carroll (guitars). Carroll had previously been a member of Winterhawk while Elkins was well-known as a session singer and musician. Attempting to create a multi-layered AOR record built on crafted songwriting and climatic vocals, Fierce Heart was widely considered to be one of the finer pomp rock albums of the mid-80s. However, Carroll’s increasing commitment to his Christian faith ensured that it would remain a one-off project. He subsequently formed Whitecross.

Album:

It’s hard to believe but three decades on from its release, Fierce Heart’s debut self-titled release is often hailed as classic of the hard rock genre that unfortunately never found its deserved wider audience.Full to the brim with its jaw crushing guitar sound – a sound made famous by successful acts of the day Dokken and Ratt, Fierce Heart basically consisted of singer Larry Elkins with guitarist Rex Carroll – their ace in the pack who could shred on par with all his peers of the mid to late 80s.Hailing from Chicago, Fierce Heart was a melodic rock project put together by Mirage Records’ Jim Delehart and band manager John Doumanian. The latter had discovered Elkins in Nashville and, having heard of Carroll’s guitar prowess, elected to introduce the musicians which in turn lead to an album being recorded. The album, simply called “Fierce Heart”, utilised engineer Chris Lord-Alge in a percussive capacity. To promote the album the band performed a series of shows though sadly they were to miss out on the chance to support Deep Purple due to management / label politics, denying them the opportunity to truly showcase their potential. After the inevitable breakup Rex would go on to find success with Christian rockers Whitecross whilst Larry pursued a succession of diverse musical projects. The self-titled album itself has over the years been a victim of various bootleggers and has appeared on CD is various formats – none of which have been official or authorised. Until now that is with AOR BLVD Records’ A&R man supreme finally securing a legitimate release after a chance meeting with Rex. The guitarist himself felt that the original artwork used was out of sync with the music and style of Fierce Heart and in no way did them justice. As a result, and with Rex’s approval, the label has commissioned new artwork it feels is more fitting. Furthermore, AOR BLVD Records have ensured this cd has been remastered to the highest quality including as a bonus the original interview conducted for “Metal Forces” magazine providing details on the bands history and how it was formed as well as three exclusive demos featuring ex Grave Danger singer Bob Reynolds as well as detailed liner notes from Rex himself.

Carroll had previously been a member of Winterhawk while Elkins was well-known as a session singer and musician. However, Carroll’s increasing commitment to his Christian faith ensured that it would remain a one-off project. He subsequently formed Whitecross. In 1985, Atlantic Records released the debut album from FIERCE HEART. Fronted by the extraordinary talents of guitar icon Rex Carroll, the band received high praise in the music press - Guitar Player Magazine, Billboard, Kerrang, Metal Forces and Guitar For The Practicing Musician. Then in 1986, Rex Carroll formed the successful group Whitecross and also played in the critically acclaimed band King James while the New singer for Fierce Heart Robert Reynolds headed up the band Grave Danger from L.A. Following the original Atlantic album release AOR BLVD Records contacted Rex for an official, sanctioned re release. This project became a springboard, with a performance that followed at the Melodic Rock Festival. Fierce Heart was the surprise hit of the festival with fans turning out in droves, demanding the permanent reformation of the band and a new album.

Album:

Do you remember the the great band FIERCE HEART featuring guitar hero Rex Carroll and uber-producer Chris-Lord Alge? Their self-titled album from 1985 was posted on this blog in its remastered form.Well, Fierce Heart always remained active with Carroll carrying the torch, now fueled and driven by their core fan base, the got busy in the studio and created a new album – the kick ass ”War For The World”, to be released tomorrow.Classic US Hard Rock with a bluesy core plus soulful vocals and swirling solos courtesy of Carroll are the highlights of ”War For The World”, and album we HIGHLY Recommended to check out if you are fan of the genre.I’m very excited. Fierce Heart‘s only record, their self-titled 1985 debut, still is one of the best ‘unknown’ melodic hard rock albums from the era.The flipside of that fact, of course, is that it’s hard – nigh on impossible, surely – for anything new from the band to have the same sort of impact on this reviewers affections after thirty five years of blank-faced adoration.Fair enough, there’s nothing here to match the titanic brilliance of Never Gonna Make Me Cry, the standout cut from that storied debut – but, once you’ve accepted that fact, the truth reveals itself pretty quickly – ”War For The World” is in pretty much every other way the equal of it’s predecessor. After an opening salvo from the peerless guitar maestro that is Rex Carroll, first track proper ”Built For Speed” blows your speakers apart with its unvarnished rock n’roll truth. This is prime US hard rock, from the long tradition that the States upholds of this kinda all-guns-blazing, sing-it-shout-it aural experience. It’s a perfect album opener (and Carroll supplies another superb solo as well as if everything else that’s great about the song wasn’t enough). The other important thing to note is that in vocalist Robert Reynolds the band has a new singer more than capable of matching the great Larry Elkins, the power-throat behind Fierce Heart’s debut. If vocal names like Hagar and Meniketti get your juices flowing, you’ll find much to enjoy about Reynolds’ performances throughout the album. This state of affairs is underlined when the band does a new version of ‘Out For Blood’ (from the first album) on this record; armed with a substantially beefier sound this time around, the come-and-have-a-go-if-you-think-yer-hard-enough nature of the lyrics is actually reinforced by the music, rather than undermined by a tinny drum machine… and need I mention that Carroll slots in another top-drawer solo?Look, I’m not going to waste your time with a forensic comparison between 1985 and 2020… suffice to say that ‘War For The World’ has everything you need if you’re an aficionado of classic 80s melodic hard rock, from bruisers like ‘Just Got Lucky’ or the anthemic ‘Power to Rock’ to the more majestic and epic feel of the album’s best track, ‘Rest My Bones’, this record literally has it all.Break out the pastel-shaded dustcoats – it’s time to rock!

Line-Up:

Robert Reynolds (vocals)

Antonio Acevedo (bass)
Nick Forchione (drums)
