Bio:

Carl Dixon Music - A man of titanium, rock and soul. Carl’s returned to his rock roots with his new album UNBROKEN released through AOR Heaven Germany Nov 29,2019. Since signing his first international record deal at 22, with Coney Hatch, Carl’s stellar voice and songs forged a music career for 30+ years. With the Hatch opening for Iron Maiden’s Piece of Mind tour (40 shows), 27 shows for Judas Priest and more. Carl went on to a solo career and joined world chart toppers The Guess Who as lead singer for eight years (as well as playing in April Wine four years.) Carl’s extraordinary life was blindsided by a near-fatal car accident in 2008. His dogged comeback from traumatic brain injury, losing an eye and 50 others injuries is the stuff of legends. He is one; having just toured again with Coney Hatch (with buddies Andy Curran, Dave Ketchum) to sold out venues in France, Germany, and in Quebec and Ontario with Steve Harris’s British Lion. Coney Hatch sounding better than ever with Sean Kelly breathing new life into those iconic riffs. Carl rejoined The Guess Who for two special shows in 2016, released a book “Strange Way To Live” which remains on his publisher’s best seller list. Carl is with Canada’s National Speakers Bureau and shares his inspiring comeback story “Rock to a Hard Place The Journey Back” to corporations across North America.

Album:

Dixon's solo debut, "One" (1993), appears to have been a pretty obvious move for a man of his standing (at least from the European perspective). Carl, born in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario had come to prominence in the early 80s as one of the frontmen for the critically acclaimed Canadian hard rock band Coney Hatch. However, having released three albums between 1982 and 1985, Dixon had become pretty disillusioned with his career at that point; tired of the many frustrations that being on a major label (that didn't appear to care) brings on a touring band trying to get noticed. Ironically, as has been shown time and again, North American bands often appear to be curiously shielded from any success they may be achieving abroad. In Coney Hatch's case there was another market out there bursting to embrace them in Europe, if only they'd known about it.After focusing on songwriting for other artists for a while, eventually switching focus from North America (where grunge was on the brink) to Europe, especially Germany, where Coney Hatch made a much bigger impact, Carl wouldn't fully learn about it only until Coney Hatch's performance at the 2014 edition of Firefest, England."One" features fifteen songs, one of them ("One Good Reason") a co-write with Brett Walker, another one ("Taste Of Love") Aerosmith meets Def Leppard flavored. Dixon's first wife Stella ended up adding backing vocals alongside e.g. Mark Santer (Santers) or Mike Shotton (Von Groove). It took a month of recording in four different studios especially focusing on how the guitars sound. The Canadian is still very proud of it and about the fact that people still remember the album. After being with The Guess Who and April Wine for a while and a horrible car crash in Australia in 2008, he's back with Coney Hatch leading to the 2013 record "Four" and has released a couple of solo records since. Additionally, he's having a brand-new solo effort by the name of "Unbroken" coming out soon on with he collaborated with Frontline's Robby Böbel. After the reissue of the classic album "One" in October 2019, November sees the release of the first collaboration between Carl and Robert Böbel, a long-time stalwart on the German music scene with bands like Frontline and Phantom V, among many. The result is the new release, "Unbroken", a powerfully sung and performed album that reaches the heights of AOR/melodic rock. Memorable hooks, strong melodies, great guitar playing & production and drums performed by Mark Santer (Santers) and newcomer Dylan Gowan (Vesperia, Cardinal Street).

Carl Dixon - guitar , vocals (Coney Hatch)
Robby Böbel - guitar (Evidence One , Phantom 5)

Album:

Here’s Coney Hatch frontman CARL DIXON solo debut album, 1993’s “One“, in its AOR Heaven Records remastered reissue, includng 2 previously unreleased bonus tracks. With detailed liner notes by legendary journalist Dave Reynolds, full lyrics and rare photos, this re-release has bee remastered by expert Chris Lyne. Additionally, despite isn’t mentioned, the album has been slightly re-mixed, as compared with the original edition there’s subtle differences on many tracks. As extra, we added the exclusive tracks from Dixon’s EP released the same ’93, same sessions, four songs.“One” is classic Canadian Melodic Rock / AOR from A to Z. We still got the original release, but didn’t played it since many years. Now listening this stupendous remastering only can say that completely forgot how good this record is.It makes no difference which of the 17 tracks (including the 2 bonus) you choose, you’ll get melodic rock / AOR par excellence. “The Blood Rises“ does exactly that to the listener, while “More Than A Memory“ reminds me more than once on the mighty Eddie Money (R.I.P.).You can do no wrong with the ballsy April Wine–ish “Through The Fire“. “Against The Night“ and “Love Is Waiting“ are the names of the non-syrupy ballads. The great “One Good Reason” is a co-write with maestro Brett Walker, then the rocker “Taste Of Love” sounds like Aerosmith meets Def Leppard flavoured.Absolutely necessary for lovers of April Wine, Streetheart, ’80s Bryan Adams, and of course, Coney Hatch, in fact Carl Dixon’s “One” is a delicious listen for lovers of that classy, Canadian / American Melodic Rock & AOR sound and style from the Eighties.
