REO SPEEDWAGON detonated the charts with their 1980's ten million selling LP Hi Infidelity, but the follow up album Good Trouble 'only' sold two million copies and failed to produce a top-10 ten hit. Any band would have killed for a performance like that, but REO Speedwagon is an act always aiming for more.For the next record, the band refocused their skills to produce another killer record and the result was "Wheels Are Turnin`", recently reissued by Rock Candy Records in a 'Remastered & Reloaded' form.Kevin Cronin and Co. called some external connoisseurs to help not only in the songwriting, but also collaborating in the 'concept' and sound.Among the big cats involved in the craft of the album we find AOR magician Tom Kelly (Toto, Van Stephenson, Survivor, et all) who co-wrote some songs and did backing vocals, Richard Page (Mr. Mister, Pages), Tommy Funderburk (Airplay) and many more, some of them uncredited.The results were spectacular. "Wheels Are Turnin`", originally issued in 1984, was an unqualified success (their second best-selling album ever), going platinum several times over and producing two bonafide hit singles in "One Lonely Night" and the blockbusting number one "Can't Fight This Feeling"."Wheels Are Turnin`" it was also a record that truly married the band's historical hard rock sensibilities with their penchant for writing catchy Melodic Rock / AOR radio friendly tunes propelled by Kevin Cronin's unique vocals and Gary Richrath's searing lead guitar playing.Other successful singles released include the great midtempo "One Lonely Night" (love the guitar solo), and the melodic rock bliss of "Live Every Moment".A perfectly produced and balanced record, the disc also features strong and yet catchy rocking anthems proving that their rock spirit is still alive, as opener "I Do' Wanna Know" (also single), "Rock 'N' Roll Star" (great solo / guitar work), or the lively title track "Wheels Are Turnin`", perhaps the best and more complete REO Speedwagon composition ever.Excellent remaster by Rock Candy.

Another of the 'big Eighties' classic records from chart-busters REO SPEEDWAGON has been recently reissued by Rock Candy Records in a 'Remastered & Reloaded' form; "Good Trouble".After the successful global success of 1980's Hi Infidelity, REO Speedwagon had the obvious uphill battle of trying to follow this up... and "Good Trouble" was the answer.'Hi Infidelity' achieved platinum status ten times over, hogging the #1 spot on the US album charts for an incredible fifteen weeks with singles becoming a mainstay of American radio play. From their hometown of Champaign, Illinois to drinking Champagne from crystal glasses, the band suddenly became the most talked about act in the country.Following up that super seller was never going to be easy, a fact not helped by pressure from their label to deliver another album with super human speed. Internally all was not wine and roses either, frontman and prominent songwriter Kevin Cronin was dealing with a bout of writer's block and a growing feeling of uncertainty about the band's new found rock star notoriety.Fortunately help was on hand from the rest of the band, including guitarist Gary Richrath and bassist Bruce Hall, stepping up to the plate and providing enough material to put the project back on the straight and narrow. The album's opener and big hit, "Keep The Fire Burnin", sets the record in motion; maybe not the songwriting graft that the band might have hoped for considering the recent success the group had enjoyed but still a major hit still the same. "Sweet Time", another hit single follows on, a catchy rocker with all the American melodic rock essence written all over it. There's some classic AOR moments in the shape of "Girl With The Heart Of Gold' and the sweet and soaring "Every Now And Then", both radio-ready staples."The Key" is a solid semi-ballad with classic keyboards, "Let's Be-Bop" is vintage and good REO, while "I'll Follow You" and "Stillness Of The Night" are the more rocking cuts in the best pedigree of the band.The album ends with one of my favorites, title track "Good Trouble", a muscular yet melodic rocker driven by a great riff and tight instrumentation. REO Speedwagon's "Good Trouble" packs a solid and strong collection of songs which although not outstanding as its predecessor, still rocks with class and melodic brim.

Nine Lives is the eighth studio album by REO Speedwagon. It peaked at number #33 on the Billboard 200 chart in 1979.The album went gold on December 5, 1979.The title Nine Lives was chosen because the album was the band's ninth, including their live album, and it also featured nine songs. It was the last REO album to prominently feature a more hard rock sound. The group would turn to more pop-oriented material with 1980's Hi Infidelity. In 2013, the album was released on CD by UK-based company Rock Candy Records, with expanded liner notes and photos.The track "Only The Strong Survive" also later appeared on Gary Richrath's 1992 album Only the Strong Survive.

REO SPEEDWAGON 1977’s “You Can Tune A Piano, But You Can’t Tuna Fish“, with a wonderful fully remastered sound and a 16 page full color booklet including a new interview with Kevin Cronin, enhanced artwork and rare photos.The amusingly titled ”You Can Tune A Piano, But You Can t Tune A Fish”, originally released in 1978, is the band’s seventh studio album and was their first to boast a slightly more polished sound. The songs too were tighter and more precise, leaving little room for the bar room extemporisation that had been their mainstay previously.In fact, the album contained a number of tracks that would later go on to define REO’s clean cut but aggressive style such as ‘Roll With The Changes’, ‘Time For Me To Fly’ and ‘Say You Love Me Or Say Goodnight’.While there’s other remastered versions of ‘You Can Tune A Piano… this Rock Candy treatment is fabulous discovering a lot of sonic nuances, showcasing how well the album was produced at the time. The CD has become scarce since released, not listed at RC website anymore.Named after a a flatbed truck, REO Speedwagon muscled their way to ever increasing popularity during the 1970s, releasing album after album until the tide of their persistence eventually turned into a gigantic tsunami wave.The 1980 album Hi-Infidelity elevated the band to superstar status, with new fans convinced that they were an overnight success. Nothing however could have been further from the truth.Part of this new found blossoming of creativity and melodic delivery was due to the innate combustibility of the relationship between vocalist Kevin Cronin and guitarist Gary Richrath, two men who would, at this time, define the band s sound. New bassist Bruce Hall, Cronin’s unique vocal style and Richrath s raunchy guitar work was starting to make a unique combination. Truly one of their finest rocking-melodic albums.
