Bio:

David A Saylor moved to the UK from the US in the early 1980s to concentrate on his music career, playing new wave pop and fronting various melodic rock bands in the Birmingham and Midlands area. His sample of influence ranges from Asia, Journey, Boston and Foreigner, and Survivor and all styles of classic rock. In 1987 David co-formed the band Push UK and came very close to securing a major label deal. The 1990s saw a change for him in a new music direction and he found success as a solo artist in the Spanish speaking territories and he achieved music awards and gold records. Never turning his back on the declining state of melodic rock, he contributed backing vocals to the following albums: Atlantic – Power, Siam – Language of Menace, Wraith – Riot. 2010 saw the original demos made by the Push UK title Strange World pressed officially onto CD by newly formed label AOR BLVD Records of London UK. David A Saylor’s ‘City Of Angels’ delivers a majestic solo album which will please any serious lover of the genre of pure AOR!The following year, Saylor ventured into the studio to record the tracks for this brand new CD “City Of Angels”. Despite the years having rolled on, David has not lost any quality around his voice. He’s sounding as fine as ever, and the material on this CD is pure AOR of the best pedigree.Saylor’s voice and musical direction has similarities to guys like Jim Jidhed (Alien) or Chris Irvine, while there are musical references to aorsters icons FM and Heartland.“City Of Angels” is a beauty of an album that not a single AOR fan would want to miss. The songwriting, the atmosphere, the delicious melodies come straight from the classic ’80s AOR book. The sound and production is top notch and easily holds its own amongst bigger budget projects these days.Kudos to David A. Saylor for this lovely sonic trip back to the glorious eighties.

Album:

As pure a traditional AOR record as you could hope to hear in 2014.For those not familiar with him, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist David A. Saylor moved from the US to the UK in the early 1980s, where a varied musical career included being the singer for eighties Melodic Rockers Push UK. After the Indie-label AOR Blvd put out an album of old Push UK demos in 2010, Saylor followed it up with the well-received solo album 'City Of Angels' in 2012. 'Kiss Of Judas' is his second solo album for the label, and again he's done a fine job on what must have been a tight budget. As pure a traditional AOR record as you could hope to hear in 2014, 'Kiss...' is a short, eight-track offering that provides just five new tracks written by Saylor himself. However, it's quality over quantity with perfectly crafted guitars and subtle keyboard frills on 'If Only', 'True Reflection' and 'Tonight', each with Saylor's rich vocals giving them an air of old-school AOR like it used to be. The gentle ballad 'Ana' is another winner, whilst 'Now I'm Free' has a little more edge to it and the brilliant title-track is everything that's great about well-written AOR and comes from the pen of ex-Blackfoot Sue, Liner and Outside Edge twin brothers Tom and David Farmer. The final two songs, 'Stand Up And Fight' and 'Strange World', are acoustic versions of songs from the posthumous Push UK album, and here they are beautifully re-imagined with strong vocals, exquisite guitar and layer upon layer of textured backing vocals. This website uses cookies to help us give you the best experience when you visit. Harking back to a time when song-writing was king, David A. Saylor has created another fine example of a genre that sadly used to have more finesse and style than it does today, and for that he should be applauded.

Line-Up:

Album:

A mere two years after the release of his CITY OF ANGELS offering former Push UK frontman David A. Saylor presents his newest fruit of labour and just like its predecessor, STRENGHT OF ONE is filled with tasty tunes that will have AOR fans licking their lips. The album is not only a showcase for David's songwriting talent but also for his rich, warm and emotional vocals that lift already superb tracks like the unremittingly catchy ,,Welcome To The Show" or ,,Flying High" to an even higher level. And while the disc includes no hard driving rockers it will have you sit up and take notice because of its sheer quality. Differently put: If you like bands such as 101 South, Drive She Said, Mecca, Michael Thompson or Pride Of Lions then this really is a no brainer.

Album:

Wild Rose and Push UK vocalist DAVID A SAYLOR has been delighting us with a bunch of lovely pure AOR albums in the last four of five years, now returns with a another smooth record entitled "Built 2 Fight" again with notable contributors as guests such as guitarists David Mark Pearce, Brett Hammond and Nik Lloyd providing great guitar solos to enhance these wonderful, sweet AOR tunes.Do you remember the days when an artist or band released a new album within a timeframe of some 12 to 18 months after their latest offering? Nowadays it's a different story. Some even wait 5 to 10 years before treating their fans to new music but fortunately there are exceptions like mister David A. Saylor. It's true that David has a gap of some 2 decades between his first solo record "One On One" (that featured a mix of songs sung in Spanish and English) and 2012's "City Of Angels" but he has come up with a new platter in each of the following years. With putting out albums in such quick succesion also comes the danger that the quality of the songs suffers but that is definitely not the case here. Sure things sound familiar (think Pride Of Lions, Strangeways, FM, Drive She Said, Michael Thompson Band) on more than one occasion but that makes each of the tracks so instantly likable to every classic AOR fan. Main ingredients remain David's warm, slightly raspy and emotional vocals and whole range of superb harmonies and melodies. Add to that the musical talent of those involved and you have once more a release that will please you from the first bars.Saylor play almost all instruments with the exception of guitar solos - you need skilled axe-mans for this and all three involved are great - some special keyboards, and guest backing vocals to enhance the rich harmonies. All tracks, as said, are pure AOR goodies, just to mention few; the glorious and highly intoxicating "Alibi" on which David is joined by fellow melodic rock/west coast artist Indigo Balboa, and the slow burning "The Time Is Now", two tracks which paint you the perfect musical picture of what to expect on "Built 2 Fight".

Line Up:

David A. Saylor: lead vocals, All Instruments (Ex-Wild Rose , Push)
David Mark Pearce: guitar solos (3,6,7)
Brett Hammond: guitar solos (4,8)
Nik Lloyd: guitar solos (1,2,5)
Paul Pryor: bass
Rob Hewns: drums
Jon Dewsbury: additional keyboards
Indigo Balboa: additional vocals (7)
Romany May, Erika Jones, Azahar Lopez: backing vocals

Tracklist:

01. Built To Fight
02. The Time Is Now
03. Way Down The Line
04. The Girl From Tokyo
05. No Fear
06. This Is It
07. Alibi
08. La Chica De Tokyo
09. Follow Me

Album:

Recorded in Birmingham at the Front Room Studios, "Ship To Nowhere" is the new album from DAVID A. SAYLOR, one of the current vocalists in the musical scene more faithful to the classic AOR sound of the '80s."Ship To Nowhere" consists of 12 songs all composed by Saylor except the two listed as bonus tracks; 'Can’t Break Away From You' written by his friend Jon Dewsbury (who also play keyboards), and the cover of John Waite's hit 'Missing You', very well done by the way.The disc begins with the atmospheric instrumental 'Tempest' which sets the tone for the title track 'Ship To Nowhere' full of pompous keyboards that create an intense melodic rock feel. The elegance of the vocals are in Saylor's trademark fashion, making this cut of one the highlights. On 'We Won’t Sacrifice' there's an interesting duet with Phil Bates from the band Atlantic, a nice surprise as both vocalists glue perfectly.Next arrives another gem, the AOR bliss of "Open Door", followed by another AOR pearl called 'Blood In My Veins', this time in a midtempo pace adorned with great harmonies. The cheerful 'Make It Right' is a pure delight in the best Strangeways vein, and more enjoyment come with 'Hearts On Fire', a melodic rocker that can't fail with such title. Love it!The humming 'Pray For Time' is driven by guitars - and I really like this change of focus - where Saylor's vocals shine as well. More welcomed variation arrive with the poppy & melodic 'Have It All', same with the dynamic 'Don’t Go' featuring more relaxed lead vocals. The aforementioned 'Can’t Break Away From You' is a semi-ballad with an early '90s melodic rock feel, and for the end we have an elegant version of 'Missing You', faithful to the original with Saylor's own touch. On "Ship To Nowhere", David A. Saylor confirms once again his love for classic AOR / Melodic Rock, performed with a passion like few in the current scene can deliver.

Line Up:

David A. Saylor: lead vocals, All Instruments (Ex-Wild Rose , Push)
Paul Pryor – Bass
Rob Hewins – Drums
Brett Hammond, Ray Hatfield, Rob Hewins – Guitar Solos
Jon Dewsbury – Keyboards
Erika Jones, Cristian Antonio, Romany May – Backing Vocals
