Loudguns is an independent melodic Hard Rock/AOR band from Finland, formed in 2009. Their first album Broken Highway (2011) gained a lot of attention by selling out in over 40 countries and making it to the magazines and radios.This Finnish six-piece just ooze potential - Rob Evans (Classic Rock & Powerplay magazines UK.I can't imagine a drive without their music - Mamoru Sonoda (Hitman Records JAPAN.Giving the old fans of the decade what they really want, Loudguns caught me by surprise – Stephen Kasenda (Metal Music Archives INDONESIA.Loudguns has been together for four years and during the time the band has played several shows headlining in Finland and received great feedback from audiences everywhere. Greatest accomplishments the band has received so far are selling out their first album, great album reviews from around the world via web and magazines including famous magazines like Classic Rock Magazine, Powerplay Magazine and Kerrang, international radio air play in Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Ireland, Mexico, Germany, Canada, U.S.A. & England. Also a Loudguns radio contest was held in Italy by popular demand from fans on Rock invasion show on Radio Antenna 2 channel. Finnish melodic rockers LOUDGUNS debut album "Broken Highway" is being re-released as a Limited Edition collectors item by their record label Rock It Up Records / City Of Lights Records, strictly limited to 300 numbered copies.Originally released by themselves in 2011 when Loudguns were still an unsigned act, "Broken Highway" went out of print pretty soon.Due to high amount of requests the band decided together with their new record label City Of Lights to release this 2016 a special edition of their debut available at selected stores since last Friday.Loudguns second album (featured on this blog here) was a pleasant surprise, and while the band is working on the third effort (scheduled early 2017) they decided to re-vamp "Broken Highway" to all melodic rockers rejoice.With a typical Scandinavian melodic rock sound akin country-fellows Free Spirit or Brother Firetibe but also Swedes H.E.A.T, Grand Design, etc, this Loudguns' debut showcases a young but mature bunch of musicians who obviously known what this genre is all about.'Jenny's on the Run', the catchy 'Let your Fire Burn', the Americanized 'Hit 'n' Run', the atmospheric and highly melodious 'Broken Highway' (one of my favorites), the AORish 'Dreams on the Line' (plenty of keyboards) and the more edgy 'Distant Dreams' are among the strongest tracks of this solid debut.Solid songwriting, classy vocals, clean guitar riffs & solos, 'that' keyboards (nicely arranged) and a punchy rhythm section makes this CD a lovable trip back to the '80s.Strictly limited to 300 numbered copies this reissue of Loudguns' "Broken Highway" will be collectors item soon. LOUDGUNS is an independent band from Finland formed in 2009 inspired by the classic Hard Rock / AOR sounds from the late '80s. "Sunset Runaway" is their second album originally sold by themselves in limited quantities.It's great to see that they have been finally picked up by an European label for an international release, because the band really deserves a bigger audience. Traditional Scandinavian hard and melodic rock with strong AOR touches is the name of the game on "Sunset Runaway", and the Finnish bunch deliver the goods with 12 cracking tunes in a row.I have listened Loudguns' previous album, and I can tell you this new recording is much more polished not only in the arrangements but also in the production side, especially on the keyboard infused tracks such as the jumpin' opener "Line Of Fire" (reminds me Shy), the great AOR of "We Need A Hero" (a highlight) or the solid midtempo "War Remains".Some of the material is quite heavier leaning into Euro hard rock like the razor "Wicked Lover" (akin Pretty Maids), "Sirens Call" and the groovy "Loud 'n' Proud", but most of the material has a strong melodic rock feel as "Silent Cries", another favorite.There's very good ballads in "Sail Towards The Sea" - the kind of 'Euro metal' slow songs - and closer "So Close To Home", a typical Scandinavian ballad embellished with acoustics, synth orchestations and an epic chorus. Really well produced by themselves, Loudguns delivers an enjoyable slice of Scandi Melodic Hard Rock / AOR on "Sunset Runaway". Strong songwriting, sharp riffs, 'that' keyboards (nicely arranged) and a punchy rhythm section makes this CD a lovable trip back to the '80s. Singer Lassi Vääränen owns a great range and a vocal tone which perfectly fits this style, except for a couple of times where he goes too much high, but the guy puts tons of attitude and fire.If Scandinavian stuff in the vein of Treat, Dalton, Fate, Pretty Maids - but also German-sounding like Domain or Human Zoo - are your thing, give to "Sunset Runaway" a proper listening. You will like it, a lot.
