Bio:
The passion for music Gus Monsanto was triggered when he first saw KISS on TV in 1983. The image of four masked hairy playing rock on top of a tank was fascinating, and unlike anything we had seen before . His fate, arm in arm with the music, was sealed. Soon after came the first guitar, the band with fellow childhood and adolescence and the discovery that music was the goal of his life.At 16, Gus lived in the United States, where matured the idea to assemble your own band seriously, because by now composed his first songs and knew better his musical identity and style that would follow. Back to Brazil, he set up the Angel Heart, a hard rock band who led for a few years. In this band, Gus exchanged the guitar through the microphone, which is still its main working tool. During the 90s, the band recorded two albums, had a clip aired on MTV Brazil, and a good impact in the specialized media in Brazil and some other countries with good reviews in magazines from countries such as Italy and Japan, in addition to its disc played on the radio. In the mid-90s, Gus had the invitation to join the Overdose, one of the most traditional heavy metal bands of Brazil, which was a fan. His first show with the band took place at the Mineirao in Belo Horizonte, opening for Whitesnake, Megadeth and Queensryche. Gus rate this show as a unique experience, where he had contact with the first step of the hard rock world. In the formation of Overdose - which had seven albums released in Brazil and abroad - also included the former Sepultura guitarist, Jairo Guedz. After the end of Overdose, Gus had a brief passage by paulistana heavy metal band Portrait with which makes several shows, including the first festival BRAZIL METAL UNION, which is now a traditional event of the audience fan of the genre. At that time, came to Gus's mind back to the US and start a band abroad. And so it was done. That year, 2001, Gus joins the guitarist and vocalist Marc Ferreira, one of his best friends and the trio MONKEY BITE, they do a lot of shows by the US, coming to open for bands like Ratt, traditional band of hard American rock. The Monkey Bite - which is an ongoing project and which Gus possibly part - played in Brazil in 2003, containing in its formation bassist Firehouse, Dario Seixas. In 2002, Gus gets proposal from other Brazilian bands like Silent Rio, and Sao Paulo label Frontline Records, which was looking for musicians to form a band called Astra. The project took two years of his career, a disc and wear, a disappointment so great that Gus did admit the possibility to give up the dream to continue making music. But when all seemed lost, Gus sees the announcement of the French band Adagio, which included one of his favorite singers, David Readman (Pink Cream 69). David had just left the band, which was looking for a replacement immediately. Half of curiosity, means for refusing to believe it was the end of the line, Gus had his material. However, for geographical reasons, he did not even expect a return. Then came the surprise: it gets one of the entrepreneurs Adagio email, interested in knowing more about Gus, and asking them to learn and re-record the vocals for two songs from Adagio. In 48 hours, he learned the songs, recorded the material and sent to the French. The result could not have been better: an invitation to live in France and join the band.Just twenty days later, Gus landed in Paris where he would begin a new and decisive step in his career. He immediately joined the band, which concluded the tour CD "Underworld", through the USA, Switzerland, Spain, Holland and France, quite successfully participating in various festivals, among them the American version and European Prog Power, one of the biggest events in the world of heavy metal world, sharing the stage with names like Edguy, Savatage and Devin Townsend. The year 2005 is dedicated to the stage and the studio. Gus made his first season of 40 concerts in the French summer with the troupe cocktail Nuit (who toured France every summer since then, adding nearly 300 shows). After intense pre-production, recording "Dominate", his first CD with the Adagio, which was launched in December 2005. In addition, 2005 also marked another Gus participation in the band Monkey Bite, with which he made several shows in new York and new Jersey. The year 2006 is spent on promoting the CD "Dominate", which was released worldwide by Locomotive Records (Europe / North America), Hellion Records (Brazil), Double Vision (France) Avalon / Marquee (Asia). The first show of the tour takes the band to Africa for the first time, which open to the legendary Robert Plant, former Led Zeppelin in Tunisia. The band shared the stage with former guitarist of the Scorpions and Electric Sun Uli Jon Roth, Edguy, Mattias Eklundh (Freak Kitchen), Leaves Eyes, Epica and other big bands in Europe. The band plays in the Salon de Musique, one of mùaiores fair world's musical instruments, and the biggest audience of the fair. The 2006/2007 passing year brings after a great New Year's Eve show in France, the recording of the disc of the French band Lightseekers and Gus starts recording the vocals the next disc Adagio, "Archangels in Black", at the same time. They return to Tunisia, with Firewind and Portugal, with Destruction and Primal Fear. plus a tour, opening for the band Kamelot would be the last work of Gus and Adagio together.Begins an intense pace of investments in disks of various bands such as Dr.Sin and Venturia, in addition to producing the disc Skyrion band, released in Brazil and Europe in 2008. This album was also produced by Alex Macedo, a super guitarist and sound engineer, who made the project Zyon Vega, with Gus, which was recorded in the same period, but remained unpublished until today. After the output of the Adagio in 2008, Gus is involved in two works:1) It is the lead singer of Takara, which replaces the renowned Jeff Scott Soto, singer of Yngwie Malmsteen and Journey, recording "Invitation to Forever", in Los Angeles in May this year, with the kitchen Yngwie Malmsteen.2) is chosen among 400 singers to be the lead singer of the band Revolution Renaissance, led by Finnish guitarist Timo Tolkki, which sold 3 million records with Stratovarius. Another Brazilian part of the contract, drummer Bruno Agra, which was part of Zyon Vega with Gus.With Timo, Gus records two CDs "Age of Aquarius", released in 2009 and "Trinity" in 2010, and touring through South America. The partnership ends in 2010 and Gus is preparing its next sounds.
Album:
GUS MONSANTO was the lead singer of bands such as Takara, Adagio, Revolution Renaissance, Code of Silence, Human Fortress, and currently fronting Surpemacy. ”Dandelions”, his second solo album, truly is a labor of love where Gus invited a lot of musicians to turn his musical vision into reality.Produced by Monsanto and Swedish based Eduardo Belchior, the album features a lot of great musicians who have performed with Monsanto over the years, such as Goodbye Thrill’s guitarist/singer Marc Ferreira, Bruno Sá, keyboard player who has worked with Geoff Tate, Angra, guitarist Alex Macedo (Krystal Tears), drummer Felipe Haubrich (Angel Heart), and many others.”Dandelions” is a timeless hard rock / AOR / melodic rock album, but with a ton of different colors & influences. Gus shows his versatility as a singer with a smorgasbord of fine melodies, guitar solos, and a big sound all coming together as a solid well written album recorded over two years, mixed & mastered in Örebro, Sweden. You’ll be surprised by the quality on offer here. All the songs have been composed by Gus Monsanto and “Unbroken” stands as the first firm and powerful piece of music from the album, containing an impressive strong vocal line and a positively 90s Hard Rock structure, with approximations to the Dokken of those years.“Imaginary friends” begins as a classic Bonfire song on rhythm guitar, developing into Metal meets Melodic Rock, not far like Monsanto’s current band Supremacy. The heartfelt and brief instrumental “Polaroid” precedes the intense “Cavok” with certain TNT-style melodies.“Serendipity” brings to mins Winger latest work including a good catchy chorus. Next “Stentorian” sounds like a modern version of Takara, with a multi-part layered chorus for great effect. Really good tune.“Dandelions” is more dynamic, some how a bit modern however there’s a bit of classic Extreme on it, then Monsanto offers something different with the electric / acoustic mix of midtempo ”What Doesn’t Kill Me…” serving another strong vocal performance.“This Game” is pretty AORsish both in songwriting and sound, as here the production sweetens in favor for an ’80s feel. Journey / Hardline fan will love this.I don’t know if has to be that I have been listening Giant a lot, but ”Daisy Chain” has a bit of Dann Huff & Co. second album Time To Burn. Great melodic rocker. We change gears again for ”Waiting for a Sign” where an old-fashioned organ leads the electro-acoustic strings, ans a bluesy guitar work takes us into the classic rock territory. As you see, “Dandelions” is a varied, always interesting classic sounding rocking album covering from metal and hard rock to melodic, AOR and classic rock, all with cohesiveness, well written arrangements and a polished, crisp production. You’ll like “Dandelions” a lot.
