Ailafar is a melodic Rock band based in Thessaloniki Greece.They have a self released album ''Long way to imagery'' 2011 and ''No Limits'' 2015.Ailafar was founded in late 2006 by John Tzortzis to perform his material. After some changes to the line up and few bar/club gigs they recorded the first demo in May 2009. In September 2009 the recordings of the first full album '' Long way to imagery'' began. It was finished in August 2011 with the help of several session musicians and new band members. The project album is self released and includes 12 songs written/arranged and produced by J.T, plus an extra song recorded in 2012. With a new line up the band played several bar/club gigs in Thessaloniki including a couple TV appearences and radio shows. Within a break of a year in 2013 the recordings of the second album started in May. It was finished in February 2015 and it's released by AorBlvdRecords. It includes 13 songs and guest vocal appearences from Stephan Kammerer( Frontline, Stereotide Germany) , Paul Jackson( Roadhouse- Pete Willis band, UK ) and David Saylor( Push UK, Wild rose UK). It also includes vocals by Tatiana Economou, Alexandra Mcay, Olga Katsenidou, Elisabeth Mari. The album is written/arranged and produced by J.T . New Melodic material from southern Europe, more precisely from Greece, and, as expected, from the number 1 stable in Greek rock music: Chris Siloma, producer, manager and collaborator with many of these excellent musicians. One of the most talented of these is guitarist, producer and songwriter John Tzortzis, who founded the band AILAFAR in 2006 and is still extremely active with many line-up changes.“State Of Mind” is the name of the fourth full-length album and fortunately it doesn't bring any big surprises: AOR / Melodic Rock at its best, mostly with female lead vocals and many guests. The greatest attention is again paid to melody and harmony.The rocking “Zombie Town” with the excellent guitar work and the distinctive voice of Tatiana Economou is a tailor-made prelude, followed by “Tide Of Spirits”, a song with a wonderful refrain and a sedate melody. It continues in a highly melodic manner with “Life Is A Chess” (with a killer solo by Mr. Tsortzis) and “Step Up the Stairs”, where the lines between rock and pop merge. Ballads shouldn't be missing, of course: "Teach Me To Dance" (duet Tatiana Economou with Dean Mess - the only male voice on the album!) And "The Last Day" with Maria Katikaridou's magical lead vocals.All songs are bursting with catchy melodies, distinctive hooks, riffs and refrains, which in no way seem sucked out, but go straight to the ear, varied, never boring, with interesting instrumentation. Since with one exception the lead vocals are exclusively female, you only have to make comparisons with the best of the best: Issa, Pat Benatar, Robin Beck or Melissa Etheridge. Anyone who likes poppy rock (or rocky pop) à la BON JOVI, Bryan Adams, HEART or the ladies mentioned above will be well served with "State Of Mind", representatives of the hard metallic variety will not have any joy.
