Album:

Once Richie Kotzen (formerly of the handle on Mr. Big and Poison in the strings) starts to play, you know immediately that this can only be it. The guitar virtuoso and singer / songwriter has a unique style in which he is instantly recognizable - and knocks one of the first second. And this quality can now be on, The Essential 'listen - this retrospective collection features an impressive image of his career. The songs on The Essential 'chose Richie Kotzen independently from his repertoire of 18 solo albums and is thus his listeners a comprehensive, coordinated and focused introduction to the core of his work. In addition to including recent hits, acoustic performances, bootleg material and music videos, The Essential 'in addition to two brand new songs, War Paint' and 'Walk With Me'. Beginning opens with a bluesy guitar riff, War Paint 'in a bombastic refrain from Kotzens rough and impeccable guitar art. In, Walk With Me 'can suck the song by incorporating a theremin, an antique electronic instrument that he learned in a very short time, become the emotional and engaging anthem."As soon as one occurs, something absorbs or write songs, you simply arrives at a very different place again," he says. "That's a whole other world. I love to watch people's reactions when they hear my music. That's just my absolute bonus. I can not wait to give more songs in the world there. "

Album:

Still yet to release his new compilation album, “The Essential Richie Kotzen”, which is due on September 2, the guitar maestro has confirmed that he already setting up a new solo album that should be out on January 2015. Although there’s no official dates have been revealed for the upcoming record, but Richie Kotzen already has a title for his next solo work, which is “Cannibals”, a pretty scary but seemingly have an intriguing meaning behind it. In an interview posted at Bravewords.com, Richie said that the title basically his way of describing human’s condition, basing on the guitarist’s perspective.Kotzen also stated that he really liked his upcoming solo record as there’s many interesting songs that he crafted in that album, confirming that there’s going to be 10 tracks on it, with one of them being a special one he wrote with his daughter, August. Both have actually collaborated quite a lot in recent years, but the upcoming song titled, ‘You’ is being considered as an interesting piece by the former Mr. Big’s axeman. That track was actually a music piece that August roughly wrote during her early teen (13-14 or 15), but was far from done and got discovered again by RK when his browsing for ideas for the new album. Liking what he heard, Kotzen added some vocals and stuff on it. There’s also a music video for the song that music fans will surely keen on checking out and hopefully it won’t be long before eventually being streamed on the guitarist’s official YouTube channel. At the moment, Kotzen’s are still promoting his new compilation record, “The Essential Richie Kotzen“, which also includes a tour as there’s also some new songs being brought into that record. So, before listening to his new solo work, music fans can get their copy of that exciting compilation of the maestro’s best tracks throughout his long musical career.

Album:

When I asked to review the latest Richie Kotzen album, ‘Salting Earth’, I thought I was being pranked after first listening to it. It was not what I expected. After covering Richie Kotzen last year as he fronted the band The Winery Dogs, I was stoked to hear what new stuff Richie has to offer.Having seen The Winery Dogs, I expected Richie to have a similar sound on his new album. But I swung and missed, that curve ball alluded me as I usually listen to rock and roll but this album although has many rocking moments is full of soul music reminiscent of the 1970’s and early 1980’s when singers like Teddy Pendergrass were big. This isn’t the genre of music I tend to listen to. But I gave this album many many spins and you know what, it really isn’t that bad. This being Richie’s 21st solo album dating back from his self-titled debut in 1989, any musical artist with talent is going to change things up throughout their career, or you hope that’s the case, otherwise you’d get the same exact album every time just with a different name.‘Salting Earth’ displays the talent Kotzen has and the versatility his vocals can accomplish. Despite some of the songs making me feel like I was a kid again watching contestants on Star Search trying to be the next big singer, Richie can belt out some emotionally soulful moments which are on display in the songs, “Divine Power” and “This Is Life”. For those Winery Dog fans, “Make It Easy” has a fluid driving beat that’ll make you dance or at least tap your feet, which I repeatedly had to catch myself from doing while I shot from the photo pit for The Winery Dog’s, infectious beats that make you move. When I mentioned ‘Salting Earth’ has many rocking moments, I wasn’t kidding, as the first song on the album ‘End Of Earth’ pulls you in, grips its claws into you and has you playing air guitar as Richie rocks out. ‘Thunder’, the second track expands from the previous track by getting into a heavier groove. Richie Kotzen’s guitar playing is superb throughout this album, which isn’t a surprise since Kotzen is a renowned guitarist and you can hear some of his influences, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eddie Van Halen as that sweeping style of guitar playing rings out.Changing gears, the track ‘My Rock’ plays like a romantic ode as Richie sings about being taken from the bottom to the top. It shows you the power of love and how it can get you through tough times and the unwavering support you get from someone who loves you. Keep people like that in your life, we all deserve positive support in our endeavors. And if those types of people in your life have passed on, then honor them as you replay their advice in your head to help guide you through life’s challenges. The more I listened to ‘Salting Earth’, the more memories came flooding back throughout my life. From when I was a kid and hearing this kind of music back then to my life now and hearing the lyrics, especially on ‘I’ve Got You’ and seeing the people in my life that love and support me unconditionally, I have a lot to be thankful.I wouldn’t declare ‘Salting Earth’ my all-time favorite album, but Richie Kotzen has an undoubtedly canny talent to make listeners reflect, which reaches the heart and soul of your being. So, if you want to expand on your catalogue of music, ‘Salting Earth’ is a positive change of pace from the everyday riff raff as it is filled with great vocals and excellent music. Just open your mind up and you may just find other things you’ll enjoy. Rock On!!

Album:

When a person turns 50, they usually spend that entire year celebrating in as large of a way as possible to make it their biggest and most memorable birthday yet. Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Richie Kotzen is taking the concept literally, as he gears up for the release of his most ambitious album to date, and he wants to share this big birthday present to himself with his fans around the world."50 For 50" — his 22nd solo album — is due out Monday, February 3 via his own custom label, Headroom-Inc. The three-disc collection is just what the title implies: a collection of 50 previously unreleased compositions produced, performed and written by Kotzen in honor of his birthday. It's the follow-up to his critically acclaimed "Salting Earth" album, which was released April 14, 2017 via Headroom-Inc.Although Kotzen has been hailed as a guitar virtuoso since the release of his first album, it is his emotional lead vocal delivery and diverse songwriting style that separates him from his peers thanks in large part to artists that influenced him in the Philly soul R&B to jazz, rock, funk, and fusion guitar genres. "50 For 50" captures the full artistic scope of what makes Kotzen such a unique artist."The idea of a 50-song album came to me while I was on tour sometime last year," Kotzen explains. "I had completed what would have been your typical 10-to-12-song album and was anticipating a 2020 release. Somewhere along the line, I discovered a few completed songs that for whatever reason were never released. Along with that, I found a massive collection of material that was in various forms of completion. Some songs had drums bass and piano with no vocal, other songs were nothing more than a bass line and a vocal melody and so on. I decided to take that summer and fall, stay in the studio, and see how many of these ideas I could bring to completion. The concept was to include the already completed works and finish the other ideas and then stop once I reached 50 songs. Reality is we've got way more sitting on the hard drives waiting for attention. I figured if I can walk out of the studio with 50 songs (that I like) mixed and mastered, I can release a 50-song package on my 50th birthday."The first song from "50 For 50", "Devil's Hand", will also be released on Monday, February 3 via all digital retail outlets. As Kotzen says: "The song touches on loss and regret while romanticizing a past that may or may not have been as it is being remembered in the present."Kotzen will continue to celebrate his big birthday with fans all over the world starting with an appearance at the Monsters Of Rock cruise kick-off party on February 7 in Miami, Florida at the Magic City Casino. His North American tour will commence with a three-night engagement in New York City at the Iridium Jazz Club on June 23, 24 and 25. The worldwide tour will take the birthday celebration to Mexico, Europe, Latin America, Japan and Southeast Asia.
