Led by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brett Richey, the 42-minute project features a blend of AOR, melodic hard rock and classic pop with contributions from a powerful collective of Arizona musicians. Critics praise the album's timeless songwriting, complex arrangements and dynamic, radio-friendly hooks.

The American band INNUENDO shows no signs of slowing down. Since 1995, they have been releasing new music free from the pressures of insurmountable borders or undesirable external factors. “NOT LOST,” their 12th album, will be released again by XLR8 Records and will be available in mid-June on the website of their leader, songwriter, and producer, Brett Richey, who also plays guitar, keyboards, and bass. Pat Laferty is the lead vocalist, George Robbins is on drums, and Jeff Quinonez contributes vocals, keyboards, and bass. Also credited are Aaron Stewart on bass on four tracks, James Connell performing a guitar solo on another, and Joe DeCelle singing on a couple.INNUENDO has expanded their lineup, adding more vocal layers and even greater diversity to their original music. Percussive pop-rock movements with delicate Westcoast-esque arrangements are skillfully orchestrated in the fused and polished «Put Our Differences Aside.» The closest thing to John Elefante’s music you’ll find here. They transform the stripped-down melodies into a robust, exquisite sound with intensely focused vocals in «Smile for the Camera,» and the authoritative rhythm is a magnificent, transparent, almost jazzy proposition. «Never Thought I’d Live to See the Day» is an absolute defiance with sweet funk and disjointed pop-rock à la Kenny Loggins or Christopher Cross. Musical terms are improvised and combined in whimsical instrumentation with free and shifting vocals as the song demands. “TMI” features glorious Black vocals soaring through the wild strings of Sly & the Family Stone, bursting into dance moves like The Jackson 5, neck-twirling and soul-baring like Stevie Wonder, tracing James Brown’s wild pirouettes, stirring the Afro-Latin spiritual fusion of Santana, and tinging the white British Rock of pioneers Trapeze, led by the phenomenon Glenn Hughes, with a dark brown hue.“The Second Time Around” is pure gold, and the vocals belong to a true crooner. It boasts a warm, distinguished jazz sensibility with an unbridled taste for the dramatic Big Bands of the past, bombastic piano, a conglomeration of orchestral keyboards, a guitar solo with Tommy Bolin-esque fusion, a miraculous Kansas-style symphony, delirious bursts of killer creativity screamed with deadly spasms, and a feeling of utter, unbridled awe. For “Burning Up the Miles,” they concoct a sophisticated, all-encompassing potion, resulting in a Funk Rock sound intertwined with subtle Latin Rock, underpinned by silky, easy-listening rhythms and romantic vocals. In “Little Did I Know,” they return to those Soulful vocals infused with Funk; it could be an example of Prince, a Chicago sound by right, or a Toto hit from their Bobby Kimball era. This acquired, overflowing talent developed by INNUENDO aligns them with Blue Ambition, AOR, World 5, West of Sunset, Planet 3, Generation Radio, Rydholm & Säfsund, The Petal Falls, Crossfade… and all AOR Fusion fans benefit. If I also mention Nuclear Valdez, many of you will understand and won’t be surprised.The album is very Funk, very Pop, very Soul, very Gospel, very Latin, very Dance, very Melodic, and it oozes a vibrant Rock sound with multiple multifaceted details, superb foundations, and a profound understanding of the material being interpreted. It’s a fabulous cocktail, like «Moonlight Angel,» with those touches of Hi-Tech added to a summery array of music, and Pat Laferty’s voice is eager for adventure. They can sound polished and reflect the perfect melody in songs like «700 2nd Chances,» where they capture the finesse of Asia or White Heart, harbor the Prog side of a pre-great Journey, the fantasy of Kansas, and adorn it all with their own unpredictability. «All Our Yesterdays» boasts the technical sensitivity of Airplay, Player, Ambrosia, Dakota, Duke Jupiter; of Tommy Funderburk, Bill Champlin, Peter Cetera, and so many other bands and artists who sowed talent with abandon and generosity. The fateful ending is staged theatrically and grandiosely, like a state funeral, with the somber track «Killing Me.» The closing ceremony is sung by Jeff Quinonez with a powerful personality and an imposing voice that might remind you of the illustrious but forgotten John Sloman.The music of INNUENDO is not to be missed. It will take you down different stylistic musical paths until you encounter it and feel completely fortunate. As they themselves say… “INNUENDO-Not Lost: Difficult to define, impossible to forget.”
