Michael Bormann is a German vocalist. Since the first recording he had made with a band, he has been involved with several groups as their lead vocalist, having accepted contracts to record his vocals on albums rather than being a full time member of the bands. However, he was a founding and longtime member of Germany's hard rock band, Jaded Heart.Bormann's first step into the music scene was a high school band that he and his brother Dirk formed called High Voltage. The group changed their name to T.A.X. and then that evolved into Jaded Heart. His first chance at being with a "made band" was in 1993 when Gaby Hauke (Accept fame) called up Bormann to ask if he was interested in joining Bonfire. His time with the band was short lived as the band went their separate ways in 1994. By then, Jaded Heart had released their first album so he was still in the music spotlight. Worth noting, Bormann and ex-Bonfire mate Angel Schleifer reunited three years later as Charade.Bormann carried on with Jaded Heart while still maintaining involvement in other projects until 2004. After the release of the band's seventh album, the group fired him. He proceeded to continue with his solo career while also being the owner of his own recording studio, RMB Rock-Studios, in Duisburg, Germany. He was nominated for a few categories for the 50th and 51st Grammy Awards in 2008 and 2009. Through the years, Bormann has worked with noted musicians such as J.R. Blackmore (son of Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple and Rainbow), Jochen 'Zeno' Roth (brother of Uli John Roth of Scorpions fame), Jos Zoomer (from Vandenberg) and Anette Blyckert of Alyson Avenue and Nightwish.In 2013, after working together in the band The Sygnet (from 1997 to 2000), Bormann joined guitarist Alex Beyrodt and drummer André Hilgers in the band Silent Force replacing previous vocalist D.C. Cooper. The first Silent Force album with Bormann as vocalist is called Rising From Ashes and was released in 2013.

On the 22nd of May, after more than four years, the long awaited fifth solo album "Closer" by Michael Bormann will see the light of day. 2014 has been an eventful and exciting year. With his impressive performance at one of today’s biggest TV-Shows “The Voice of Germany” Michael reached millions of people.All songs were written, recorded and produced within a three-month studio session by the end of 2014.Due to the huge demand of the Demi-Lovato song "Warrior", that got him into “The Voice” - show, Michael had no chance but taking it on the forthcoming CD. Downright refreshing, versatile and rocking Bormann presents "Closer". Ballads, mid-tempo songs and pure Rock´n´Roll: you got it all! Defining a favorite is pretty hard as every single song has its own magic."Because we are the world" goes straight to the heart. The children’s choir makes this tune very special. Not only radio stations will love this song.It should be mentioned, that a valuable contribution to this album has been given by Eric Ragno and Bobby Stoecker. Multifaceted artist, MICHAEL BORMANN is a busy man. Best known as founding and long time member of Germany’s melodic hard rock band JADED HEART, the singer / songwriter still maintained involvement in countless projects (CHARADE, ZENO, BISS, THE RAIN) as musician, producer, engineer, songwriter… everything.As requested, here’s “Different“, a solo album released by AOR Heaven Records. It isn’t an arbitrary title, as Bormann explores different classic rock ways, always melodic. Except a few contributions (Marco Grasshoff of Rage, Eric Ragno), Michael did everything on this recording, a true ‘solo’ album.The opening track “Life Is A Miracle” starts off with a knockout punch that has a beat that will be burnt into your memory. This is one of those tracks that you can be anywhere in the world and you will hear that beat in the back of your mind and start to chant. A good starter.“To The Top” has the essence of a classic Nineties rocker yet adds some classy piano and slicing guitar which makes this more than just a rock tune. “Think Twice” is a subtle ballad with acoustics and keyboards that makes a sentimental journey through your thoughts. A Jaded Heart-style song. Very Good.“Somebody”, a simple song filled with acoustic guitars, has an American feel and good vibe.I was expecting a rocker now, but “Mr Rock ‘N Roll” is a little and insipid short fiddle, followed by “My Favorite Time”, a cool melodic track, but lacks power and essence.Fortunately Michael hits with some rock on “Breathless”. This one is in the style of his last project RAIN, with strong rhythm guitars and a nice solo, and the multilayered chorus works well.“Don’t You Tell Me” sets down the pace again, but in a good form. Intimate ballad ala Bon Jovi with an ’80s feel.“Wouldn’t Let You Down” is a midtempo with atmosphere, followed by “Who Really Wants To Get Older”, a in-your-face rocker with Bormann’s vocals taking total command. “No Way Out – It Hurts” is another up-tempo rocker, but with a clean mix, pretty commercial, in the vein of Jaded Heart’s earlier recordings.“Was Mir Fehlt” closes the album, a soft piano-acoustic guitar-only ballad sung in German, it’s very nice and one of the best vocal performances here.Mostly melodic soft tunes peppered with some fresh rockers, “Different” as the title indicates, it’s not the usual material that you expect from Michael Bormann. He has put together all the stuff he can’t do into other projects for sure, and for the most part, it’s very good stuff.His voice is sweet and melodic here, a mix of Michael Voss of MADMAX with some vintage JON BON JOVI for a good measure. A cool album and a pleasant listening.
