Bio:

Back in 1988 VICE signed their first major deal with BMG-ARIOLA in Germany. They recorded the first album in Hanover and called it ‘Made for Pleasure’. All started up quite good. The promotion and the collaboration with BMG was excellent, they entered the charts and played many shows all over Europe.Among others Vice supported BONFIRE on their first European tour. Chris Limburg, the main guy in Vice, produced two albums for the German Southern rockers. 10 years later he signed as a solid member in a band called….. BONFIRE.But back to the 90’s VICE also played several TV shows, festivals, got a huge presence in magazines and radio, they got bigger and more famous by every week. But then the biggest shock you ever can imagine happened to the band….The singer Jan Ghiantinie died within only two month by a sickness called Rheumatic Child Disease. It was really hard to carry on with VICE. Two years later the band found a new singer, Alan Keen, half American with an amazing rock voice. We began with the song writing for a new album and called it ‘Second Excess’. In the middle of the 90’s, VICE released a 3rd album under a new name - VICE became WET PAINT and the album was called ‘Shhh…’.Chris Limburg today says: ‘I am happy and a little proud, that YESTERROCK and Sony were interested to re-release the first album of VICE: ‘Made For Pleasure’ for a new (old) upcoming rock period in 2010. The two unreleased bonus tracks were recorded by VICE in Autumn 1990 when the band was getting a little harder and rougher’.

Album:

Coincidence or not, but this debut album from Vice is also on my list of 500 rock albums of all times. I don?t know if many of you know about this German band, but at the end of the 80s they got signed by one of the biggest labels in Europe, BMG/Ariola. "Made For Pleasure" was recorded in Hanover under the guidance of producer Robby Lutter and mixed by no one else than the great Michael Wagener. The original album, released in 1988, contained 11 tracks that can be described as ultra-catchy party rock. Agreed, the cover is a bit over the top, but it´s the music that counts and with feel good rockers like opener Feel My Body, Red Light Night, the title track Made For Pleasure, Running, Hot Summer Night Party and Boys Got The Fever any party can go on forever. Also worth mentioning is the slower track Trouble In Paradise. After the release of this debut album, the band had to deal with the loss of vocalist Jan Ghiantinie, who died from RCD (Rheumatic Child Disease). After a period of reflection, the band decided to go on and found a new singer, Alan Keen, with whom they recorded their sophomore album, "Second Excess" (1990).In the middle of the 90s, the band released a third album under the moniker of Wet Paint. It was titled "Shhh?" and nothing was heard from them ever since ? If you have never heard of these guys before, this is your chance to discover them. Absolutely recommended party rock stuff.

Album:

VICE is a German Hard Rock band formed in the late 80’s and consisted of the former members of the German TNT. The guys are still playing n’ rocking’ all over Europe.VICE released their first album “Made For Pleasure” in 1988 and it was well received by the press and fans. The band started touring across Europe and created the term ‘Happy Metal’, which was pretty reflected on their art cover. Two years later came out their second work “Second Excess” in 1990 and twenty-seven years after their second release, the band recorded “Veni Vini Vice” in 2017 as being their third studio album. Fortunately, they didn’t take long to record their fourth album “3 Fingers Up” to be released in 2019 and that’s what we’re going to talk about. Before we start discussing the songs, let’s talk about the album cover. It’s a simple cover and it has three embossed fingers with yellow outline painted on a black wall. It reminds me of street graffiti. The first song “Shitty Shituation” starts with a fun bass groove and then the classical drive vocals comes in as the drum and bass keep doing a simple but nice work. The lyrics are pretty funny and the melody is really catch and it will stick to your head in seconds. The chorus is really good and there’s a nice choir that reminded me of AC/DC. It’s a really good song and one of my favorites in the album.“License To Rock” comes next and it starts with a really Rock N' Roll chorus. I don’t need to say much about this song. It’s the best on the album and it’s just awesome to see that the German Hard Rock is still alive. Just turn the volume up, grab a beer and band your head while singing the chorus out loud.Oh “The Jerk” comes in with a great guitar riff that will automatically transport you back to the 80’s. The vocal lines, guitars, bass and drums are so energetic that it’s impossible to remain still. It’s definitely a trip back to the Golden era of Hard Rock. What do we say when “The Jerk” arrives? “Fuck U”. It’s a cool song and it fits well with the rest of the album.“I Hate Myself For Loving You” starts with a vibe from the 80’s electronic music. The vocal lines are still one of the best things in the whole album. It’s a good song. “3 Fingers” and “Name the Game” prepares the listener for the ballad that will hit up. “Dreaming About You” is a great ballad and it reminded me of MR. BIG. It’s a really good song to listen, sing along and just enjoy some peace before the riffs again. It’s very happy song.“Made 4 Pleasure” will make you forget the sweetness of the ballad. It’s probably the heavier song in the album and it has a killer guitar job here. “What Will You Do” finish the album and it’s a beautiful ballad with everything you could have in a romantic and 80’s style song. It has some cool orchestrations mixed up with clean guitar sounds and a beautiful solo as well. The lyrics will probably make the one smile… I hope. It’s a great album and probably one of the best Hard Rock releases of the year. There’s no doubt that VICE still has a lot of power, creativity and sense of humor. They made one of the best albums of the year and deserve the title.

Jürgen “Bam Bam” Wiehler – Drums

Album:

The second album by German hard rockers VICE was overshadowed by the serious illness of their singer Jan Ghiantinie, who was no longer able to sing on ‘SECOND ECCESS’ and died shortly after its release. This was quite a blow for the band that had got off to such a furious start with ‘MADE FOR PLEASURE’.Nevertheless, replacement Allen Keen did a very good job.‘SECOND EXCESS’ follows on seamlessly from the strong debut and features some really great party songs with “It only takes a Minute”, “Dance the Metal”, “Stand by me”, “Living on the Radio”, “Hot Love” and the over-the-top ballad “Standing in the Storm”.The cover version of ‘Proud Mary’ is also worth listening to. ‘Snakebite’ and “But we like it” are also really good songs. Conclusion: Unfortunately, they decided to change their name to WET PAINT (why??) only to record another weak album and then disband. Nevertheless, you should have the first two VICE albums in your collection.Killer flawless second release from the boyz of Vice. They are from Germany but they have the party melodic Hard Rock sound of the glory daze of LA in the 80's right on.I was blown away and this is just as awesome as their 1st CD (see my thoughts). The killer Snakebite, Stand By Me,Standin in the Storm, Shakedown,Living On The Radio. The singing, harmonies, the excellent gang style backing vocals on the choruses, pumping bass/drums and razor sharp guitars.A must in your collection!!
