Casablanca is a classic Glam Rock band from Stockholm, Sweden. They debuted with the single “Downtown” in January 2010. The band consists of Anders ljung (Space Age Baby Jane) on vocals, Ryan Roxie (Roxie 77, Alice Cooper) and Erik Stenemo (Melody Club) on guitar, drummer Josephine Forsman (Sahara Hotnights) and former professional soccer player Mats Rubarth on bass. Another single, “La Voix” was released in 2010 to go along with their performance of it during Sweden’s Melodifestivalen 2010. The performance included additional guest vocals by singer Malena Ernman. The single had two versions of the song, both studio recordings, one including Malena and one just the band.It was two years later that the band would finally have time to record and release a full album. “Apocalyptic Youth” was released in April 2012. The album included original single “Downtown”, but not “La Voix”. Videos were released for “Downtown” and “Love and Desperation”.The band began a tour for the album, but it was cut short when Ryan Roxie was called back to duty to perform with Alice Cooper again as his touring guitarist couldn’t continue. The band did some occasional shows between Alice tour dates.In October 2012, the band made their way back to the studio to begin working on their sophomore album.Debut album “Apocalyptic Youth” received critical acclaim throughout Swedish reviews and abroad, culminating in UK magazine Classic Rock nominating them as Best New Band of the Year.

Just imagine – you're an oldschool rocker really disappointed with the modern rock n roll. You’re a big KISS, Alice Cooper and Cheap Trick fan. Once you come to a music store and try to find something worthwhile. You enter a “hard n heavy” section and firstly pay attention to new records. You are sick and tired of posers, one-day bands and other fakes but suddenly your eyes fastened upon the debut record of Sweden hard rock band Casablanca “Apocalyptic Youth”. Of course, you’ve heard about those guys. Creative design of the album made in a ‘cartoon’ style and the sharp & modern band logo finally disarm you. You start dream about Casablanca and finally buy the album. After a few hours the main track “Apocalyptic Youth” shatters the walls of your house with cracking & smashing noises! Your neighbors are shocked but it’s all right. Rock N Roll is only for big guns. And Casablanca is just what the love doctor ordered for you!There are four fabulous guys and one girl (on the drums – Josephine Forsman) standing before you on the cover of the record. Among them you can see one of the most charismatic and talented guitar players ever. Guess who? Exactly. I’m talking about Ryan Roxie. He has been playing with Alice Cooper (R has recently joined Coop again, welcome back!), Gilby Clarke, Slash, UDO and with many other Monsters of Rock. His melodic and outstanding solos, bad guy image and a stupendous manner of playing on stage make him the one and only. In 2006 he left Alice Cooper band and moved from sunshine California to frosty Stockholm and completely jumped into his solo career. He has recordered two albums with ROXIE 77 and launched his own TV programme “Big Rock show with Ryan Roxie”. That man doesn’t like do nothing. He is always in a process of making good music for the right people.In 2010 Roxie formed Casablanca and now we can finally enjoy the noise. Their debut record is so far radiates such positive energy of old hard rock that it’s hard to believe that the album came out in 2012 and not in sweet 1989. We can feel KISS and Cheap Trick influences on “Apocalyptic youth”. Extremely melodic solos on “Deliberately wasted”, luring and vibrant vocal, stunning refrains and, of course, a painfully touching ballad “The Juggler” – everything is on the highest level! This is the music to wake up the dead!Look forward to listening to “Apocalyptic Youth” as many times in a row as possible every time getting another portion of positive vibes from Roxie and Co. American/Swedish band Casablanca have just released their sophomore album “Riding A Black Swan” and just 8 days into 2014 I would be surprised if I am not still listening to this on repeat at the end of the year.What is there not to like about “Riding A Black Swan”, there are elements of all my favourite bands – there are touches of Hardcore Superstar (“Hail The Liberation”), Hanoi Rocks (“Dead End Street Revisited” and “Heartbreak City”), Thin Lizzy (“Some Misty Morning” and “It’s Alright”), Vain (“Just For The Nite”) and D.A.D (“The Great Dreamless Sleep” and “Barriers”) throughout the album.The album is a master class in hard edged sleazy pop rock that stands apart from the current Scandinavian sleaze bands and has a mature sound than the band’s 2012 debut “Apocalyptic Youth”.You can see the influence of guitarist Ryan Roxie’s ongoing tenure as Alice Cooper’s main man throughout- although he only appears in the songwriting credits once (“It’s Alright”). There are big ‘80’s style hooks and great guitars all over the album and the highlights are amongst some of the tastiest tracks you will hear this year (for the record they are “The Great Dreamless Sleep”- complete with some great Shark Island style vocals, “Dead End Street Revisited”, “Barriers” and “Some Misty Morning”).The only slight criticism I have- and maybe I am being picky- is on track “No Devil In Me”, the refrain “Shout At The Devil” may be conceived as a bit clichéd, that said if a certain L.A band hadn’t already brought the phrase to the fore then this would not have even raised an eyebrow as the song more than carries itself.“Riding A Black Swan”, and indeed Casablanca as a band, comes highly recommended –there are tracks on this album that will continue to rattle around my head for months to come.

Sweden’s Casablanca will release their new album, Miskatonic Graffitti, on September 25th via Despotz Records.The third full-length album from Casablanca, is a concept album based on the Chuthulu mythology, with a twist. Before man The Old Ones ruled the world stated H.P. Lovecraft. But before The Old Ones, The Original human being of the Golden Void (the Original) ruled the earth Casablanca now claims.The Originals were creatures way beyond superstition and religion. Knowledge, enlightenment, style and rock ‘n’ roll was the real thing. But then came The Old Ones... Shackled and tossed away into another dimension by The Old Ones who soon would share their destiny. Ever since then The Old Ones have an urge to return and destroy the modern man and rule the world once again. However, The Originals also have an unwavering desire to somehow return and prepare humanity in time before The Old Ones return to throw the world into absolute darkness once again.This is a story that instead of total cosmic terror, choose to highlight the passionate life stories standing strong in an almost hopeless situation. This is a story of those who despite the impending collapse of the civilization; do not give up the fight, or their dreams of sex, love, rock and fast cars.Miskatonic Graffiti comes in three sections. In the first section (Enter the Mountains) The Phantom returns to our four dimensional space, approximately 200 years ago. The touchdown takes place in a location later to be called The Mountains, a place where gates to other worlds may appear.Here’s where the majority of the stories on the album take place, and it’s where The Phantom established The Miskatonic University to arm man with knowledge and wisdom before the dark times, that slowly but surely will come.The Phantom is the sole returner of The Originals and got its name by the students who considered it “the phantom of the university”. The modern contemporary human being who The Phantom meets along generations of preparation leaves deep impressions and new thoughts in its former imprisoned soul. Rather than just taking the roll as a teacher and commander, The Phantom in its mind transforms itself into the world's greatest rock star. Raised, reborn, released and furious with eons of hunger and revenge in his arsenal to prove it. Its golden colour is due to the atmospheric composition when it once walked the earth. Many would consider it a curse; to him it is a blessing. All hail the golden god.In the second section we get inside the unbearable simplicity and mortality within the band around The Phantom, their dreams and everyday life in The Mountains. We meet the crabby couple Mat and Josie. He’s the quarterback in university’s football team; she’s the knockout queen of the cheerleaders. Born and raised in The Mountains, misplaced and destined for better.Sergeant of Doom, or rather sergeant at arms, is the right hand of The Phantom. He’s a university dropout, a street car racer and a catcher in the rye with an unknown background.We also encounter The Death Organ who holds guest lectures in the astrophysics of the body and Sister Sundown who only can be seen after dark. Two who walks in shadows is found in Eric the Viking and Mr. Roxiewicz who despite heavy missions elsewhere still march in The Armies of the Night.In the third and last section (Exit the Mountains) we sense the euphoric feeling of victory, the feeling of resignation and the feeling of someone trapped in a corner attacking with nothing to lose.Exit the Mountains is the revolution of the restless, where boredom becomes the perfect human weapon against creatures running on a different poison. Make it or break it, as long as it leads to something else, something better than here and now. If we go down, we go down fighting.The Phantom knows what needs to be done, time is the answer but time is short...
