Info:

After the split of his successful band TOKYO in 1985, Robby Musenbichler in Frankfurt, Germany founded the band JOJO. Next to a new line-up, this change also meant an enhanced sound compared to his previous projects. First, Robby recorded two singles with established producer Frank Farian. On ‚Take A Little Time’ and ‚Shadows In The Night’ former Toyko drummer Fritz Matzka can also be heard. The album though in 1986 was produced by Eddy Offort. This band worked with three different powerhouse lead singers: Robby Musenbichler, Roko Kohlmeyer and George Liszt. The bass was handled by Ken Taylor (ex Tokyo) and the keyboards by Lothar Krell (ex Tokyo). None other than the incredible Curt Cress was in charge for the drums. Some unusual sounds were provided by saxophone player Chris Schneider. Victoria Miles and Linda Rocco joined for backing vocals. The video for the song ‚Woman’s Touch‘ was produced by Rossacher/Dolezal and received powerplay airplay on MTV. A live tour covering Germany, Holland, England and Scotland followed next. The highlight was a performance as special guest for ROBERT PALMER at the legendary Hammersmith Odeon in London. Another remarkable event in the career for the band was a performance at the ‘German International Rock Awards’ (TIGRA) at the Munich Olympic Stadium together with Germany’s primary rock band ‘THE SCORPIONS’. Robby’s return to his home country Austria in 1990 and a solo album by band mate Roko Kohlmeyer with moderate success then marked the end of JOJO.

Album:

Following the demise of the band Tokyo, vocalist Robby Musenbichler went on to form Jojo, bringing with him two other Tokyo members: bassist Ken Taylor and keyboardist Lothar Krell. Material was written for an album, but sonically it leaned more against westcoast than against the straightforward melodic rock of Tokyo. No wonder the band was known as the German Toto at the time. Originally produced by Eddie Offord, ?Jojo? contained 11 tracks, of which some sounded real promising, such as "The First Will Be The Last", "Running Thru The Night", "So Long" and "Hold Back The Night". Striking was the fact that the band worked with three lead vocalists: Robby Musenbichler, Roko Kohlmeyer (who went on to form Roko) and George Liszt. Also worth mentioning is the input of saxophone player Chris Schneider and backing vocalist Linda Rocco, who wrote or co-wrote the lyrics for 7 of the 11 original songs. Personally I consider this album as a semi classic, that deserves 5 out of 6 stars.
