Bio:
Zenith was one of the greatest - and most underrated, unfortunately Brazilian hard/AOR bands formed at the end of the 70s (the initial name was Stress). In addition to their own songs, which were characterised by fantastic arrangements and lyrics, they also performed covers with absolute perfection, including Van Halen, Scorpions, Yes, Kansas, and even an unlikely Caetano Veloso (‘Os Quereres’), among other wonders... In 2015 ZENITH returned to permanent activity, after sporadic shows since 2009. The band intends to release a new album and has already been presenting many new compositions, some of which, such as ‘Manchete’ and ‘Palhaço’, had already been written since the end of ‘the classic era’. At one of their recent concerts, ZENITH shared the stage with CAPITAL INICIAL.Only one album in discography "Zenith" (1988/89) through Estúdio Eldorado Records.
Album:
Debut and last album from 1988 year issued through Estúdio Eldorado Records.‘Sweet mother, whore, where will you go for freedom?’ is the refrain of the most famous song by ZENITH, a national hard rock group that created an unlikely fusion of A.O.R. sounds with lyrics in Portuguese. Having managed to release an album in 1989 on the Eldorado label (still unreleased on CD) and with appearances in the print and television media, the group from Mogi Guaçu, in the interior of São Paulo, were very successful until they ended their career in the early 1990s. ZENITH didn't release any more albums and the question remains.‘The mother belongs to all of us,’ says lead singer Rogério Nogueira, who adds jokingly, “it's not mine or Dé's”. The likeable singer claims that ‘Doce Mãe’ is a metaphor for Brazil at the time of the military dictatorship, using the original lyrics of the basic national anthem. ‘The Motherland was like a prostitute who sold herself to the world, gave away her riches, her dominion, for a few coins.’Still according to Nogueira, ‘Doce Mãe’ was written in partnership with guitarist Dé Vasconcellos when both musicians were 13 years old, in the middle of the 1970s; a violent time of the Military Dictatorship imposed by the USA on Brazil (and all of Latin America). The only songs in the band that the duo didn't develop on their own were ‘Spotlights’ (originally ‘Change My Evil Ways’ by A CHAVE DO SOL, co-written by Dé with Beto Cruz), ‘Asas’ and ‘Dia-a-Dia’ (co-written with Alê Soares).Zenith is one of the most successful hard rock bands from the interior of São Paulo in the 1980s, ZENITH, is back on the road. For those who remember, the group recorded an LP in 1988 with Estúdio Eldorado and charted several hits, such as Doce Mãe, Asas, Dama da Ecuridão and others, which were played on radio stations in the Campinas region. One of the few bands in Brazil to sing in Portuguese, ZENITH recently returned to activity and has been performing sporadically. At their shows, ZENITH perform the original compositions that put the band at the top of the national scene in the 80s, as well as ‘surprise covers’ of international hard rock classics with imposing interpretations and arrangements by bands such as Yes, Rush, Kansas, Living Colour, Journey, Deep Purple and many more...
