Here’s the rare private release from American band PASSION titled ”Asexual”, released in 1994 via Canadian indie label Swo Records. There were countless acts called PASSION – this 5-piece were Minnesota-based and released this only album disbanding soon after, although occasionally they still perform reunion shows locally.There isn’t much info about PASSION’s bio. Copies of ”Asexual” appear on eBay and we saw the sellers comparing PASSION with the likes of Cats In Boots or Roxx Gang. Others with early grunge bands. Well, in our opinion, none are accurate.Musically, ”Asexual” is late ’80 / early ’90s hard rock with melody as foundation, however PASSION style is very much funky rockin’. We hear traces of Extreme and Ugly Kid Joe mostly on the backing / harmony vocals, but PASSION’s arrangements are more expansive.The band has its own unique sound were all tracks are pretty different with some remarkable, memorable twists. And lyrics are really interesting. All the guys are more than capable musicians, especially the polished guitar work focused on rhythm, not flash.Also surprises the top notch production – the mix & mastering too – far above the average for an indie release, on par with many major releases from the era.A collectible and a grower, which gets better and better with each listen.
