Bio:

Originally established as the brainchild of Serbian brothers Miroslaw and Srdjan Brankovic, the group immediately took on Nikola Mijic (also of British supergroup Eden’s Curse and Hungarian gem Dreyelands) as singer. From the band’s early days up to the present, Miroslaw, Srdjan and Nikola have breathed life into the group’s powerful on-stage presence, iconic style and numerous albums released in the 2000s.Over fifteen years, AlogiA has released numerous albums: Priče o vremenu (Tales of Time) – 2002, Priče o životu (Tales of Life) – 2004, Secret Spheres of Art (English version of the first album) – 2005, Priče o snovima (Tales of Dreams) – 2012 (Live CD), Priče o vremenu i životu (Live at SKC) – 2006 (Live DVD), and Priče o vremenu i životu (2007) .After spending years accumulating positive reviews from the media and blowing away crowds of thousands fans, AlogiA continues to reach new heights and new fans with peerless collaborations on b-side projects and the release of more albums. Its most recent project, Elegia Balcanica, was released in October 2014, and became an immediate hit for its authentic sounds and Balkan atmosphere. For years, AlogiA has been packing stadiums, theaters and town squares with thousands of fans. Although the group has established an unshakeable name for itself, they have also shared the stage with some of the industry’s top talent, including Whitesnake, Apocalyptica, Savatage and many, many more. Additionally, the group has reared its head at numerous festivals around the world, including Hendrix Fest, Hard’n’Heavy, Exit Fest, Metal Days, and more.

Album:

Elevate Records has announced that AlogiA have joined its roster and are completing their new studio album, Semendria, a concentration of symphonic power speed, which will see the light of day in April. The disc will feature Fabio Lione, Mark Boals and Tim "Ripper" Owens as guests, who will sing on three different tracks. The title track, featuring Mark Boals, can be heard below. In addition to the European edition of the album, a Japanese version will be released under license on Spiritual-Beast.Great metal from Serbia is something you might not find each days so that alone makes AlogiA an interesting one. This band has been around for quite a while. Having been formed in 2000 they have managed to released six full lengths and two live albums so you can expect a certain standard of professionalism. And this is exactly what you get with their most recent output “Semendria”. What we get here are nine well thought out and performed melodic power/prog metal songs (of which one is an instrumental) that should be of interest for any fan of the genre. Not counting the two extra tracks on the Japanese edition (covers of Dream Theater and Helloween) the playing time is a bit thin with only 32 minutes, but quality over quantity matters so based on that this album is easily worth your time.Sweepingly epic harmonies are pitched against the crunchy and hefty riffs, melted into songs that combine heaviness, technical prowess and breath-taking melodies. Attacking with two guitars the axe men Srdan and Miroslav and keyboarder Nevena are building a dynamic trinity with their playing being perfectly attuned to one another. The lead harmonies range from being uplifting and lofty, to some darker and often melancholic moments. It is impressive how those chords and trademark melodies are creating a certain mood in the listener’s head and build up a captivating atmosphere. There are some more folky parts as well, giving AlogiA 's sound kind of its own character. The skills of the musicians are absolutely top, but I am glad to report that AlogiA always keep focused and concentrate on offering well-crafted and stringent songs. You will get a few rhythm changes and polyrhythms here and there, but nothing too over-boarding that would hurt the flow. The songs are structured in a way so that they can be easily enjoyed by each fan of prog on the lighter side of things and melodic metal in general. The rhythm section does a great job in building the backbone for all the riffs and majestic harmonies, but also adding a few spectacular moments to ramp up the intensity. Even the bass gets a few moments to shine. Soloing sections are mandatory of course, but also work as transition between different sections of one song. The placement of the various tracks has been well planned, so that the listener gets the feeling of a continuous thread running through the whole album.Talking about the vocals I am glad to report that singer Nikola has a fantastic voice. I know his work from the band Dreyelands and their underrated album “Rooms of Revelation”, so I am glad to get more stuff from him to check out. He has a smooth yet powerful delivery, perfectly suited to the calmer parts as well as the emotional and more powerful sections. It seems he is also the new vocalist of Eden’s Curse so that is excellent to know. On three songs he gets very prominent backing, by some of the biggest names of the genre namely Mark Boals, Tim “Ripper” Owens and Fabio Lione. Although being joined by these heavyweights Nikola absolutely does not drop off. He is doing such a good job that while it’s nice to hear the three star singers I could have done with him handling the vocals all by his own, and the quality of the album would not have suffered. The production is pretty much flawless and it is obvious that a lot of work has been put into creating the album. The mix is well balanced with each instrument being fully audible. The sound is crystal clear with the guitars having a nice and crunchy tone and the drums sounding punchy and powerful. It speaks for the sound engineering that although so much is going on here no detail has been buried in the mix. All in all “Semendria” is a fantastic album and fans of melodic metal with prog tendencies cannot go wrong here. Good stuff!
