Silver Seraph was a Swedish metal band formed in 2001.Vocalist Pete Sandberg, who also participated in Midnight Sun and Opus Atlantica, started the project, which was rather short-lived.Deep Purple are now making power metal? Can't be! But Silver Seraph show us what that could sound like on their debut album. The Swedes' sound is full of Hammond organ and up-tempo songs with lots of double bass. Coupled with virtuoso solos and many breaks, this CD with "deep purple" references sounds very fresh and independent compared to the rest of the countless power metal bands. Certainly, the style hardly leaves the same genre and is therefore most likely to appeal to its fans, but prog fans should definitely give it a listen too. Silver Seraph simply don't sound as stiff as you're used to from Rhapsody & Co. Perhaps this is due to a certain nostalgia effect or simply because of the good songs, but rarely does such a cliché-laden band not sound clichéd.
