Bio:
Band formed in 2004 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England.Formed by guitarists Steve Wray and John Slater after their departure from Blaze Bayley. The original Blaze rhythm section of Rob Naylor and Jeff Singer was also intended to join, but after a brief rehearsal period, it became clear the drummer could not commit the necessary time to RTA due to his positions in Paradise Lost and City of God and he was replaced by Ben Calvert. After the recording of the debut EP, Calvert and vocalist H. Armstrong was forced to depart due to commitments to other bands. They were replaced by Aynsley Dickinson and Leigh Oates, both of the split-up rock band Ninedenine. Their former bandmate Joel Graham was also brought on board at the beginning of 2006 to replace Rob Naylor, who has quit the music scene to become a commercial airline pilot. Graham quit in late 2009 to join Evile.
Album:
The second album from the Brits around the former BLAZE team.Since the release of the RISE TO ADDICTION debut ‘A New Shade of Black For The Soul’, a certain Mr Bailey has probably bitten his own backside several times. The fact that the former MAIDEN frontman has given up two of the most talented songwriters and guitarists in the British heavy rock scene, Steve Wray and John Slater, has definitely come at the expense of his own musical output - which, as we all know, has been worse than good since the BLAZE sophomore album. The men in RISE TO ADDICTION are probably not too bothered by the development of their former colleague, as they have released another album, ‘Some Other Truth’, which deserves to be labelled ‘very exciting’ and should help the British scene, which has clearly taken a battering, to get back on its feet. The band has orientated itself even more towards American mainstream rock, but retains the necessary independence in almost all respects. Even more than on their debut, the dynamics are the crucial point in the ten compositions and turn out to be an eternally blazing fire that is brought to a brief explosion in almost every song.‘Sick Of Me’ already hints at the extremely solid foundation that surrounds the songs, before ‘Fallen From Grace’ and ‘The Whisper’ set their sights on the early harvest with their first melodic hooklines. In the second half, ‘Fade Away’ and ‘Outside’ are two songs that should be of interest to all those who appreciate NICKELBACK musically but can no longer stand their recent monotony. And even the quieter moments are catered for on ‘Some Other Truth’: ‘Home’ and ‘Indelible’ offer semi-ballads at the highest level - without kitsch, without pathos, but with poignant arrangements. This is what moving, modern rock music looks like; or rather, this is what it sounds like...The only thing these guys are still missing for their breakthrough is something conventional in their music. Sounds stupid? Yes, basically it is. But RISE TO ADDICTION are focussing on independence and vehemently resisting vague songwriting. A one-hit wonder is thus prevented, and the band deserves the greatest respect for this. And yet: anything that is different is always gladly avoided. But let's look on the bright side: only the true aficionados will be able to enjoy ‘Some Other Truth’. But they will also love the album unconditionally!Recommended tracks: Fallen From Grace, The Whisper, Outside, Fade Away
