Formed in 2016 in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.German speedú thrash metal at its best. SPHINX, sent you back to 1985 right after the intro, with dirty raw sound how its got to be.If you listen to this and you don’t like it, you are already dead! SPHINX were founded by singer/bassist Aggressor in the Ruhrpott (more precisely in Gelsenkirchen) in true German thrash metal tradition. The sound of the new album "Deathstroke", however, makes you wonder if there is a misprint and if it shouldn't actually say 1984. Here, blackened thrash/speed metal is blasted into your ears, like the genre icons KREATOR, SODOM and DESTRUCION forged on their early works. Also in the choice of pseudonyms (Aggressor, Bonebreaker, and Terrorizer) and the presentation on the band photos, the band follows the genre traditions that were established in the 1980s.

Super debut album! There are things that simply belong together: French fries and currywurst, salt and pepper and the Ruhrpott and thrash metal. And if the big names of the scene should go into well-deserved retirement at some point, it's up to bands like SPHINX to follow in the footsteps of SODOM, KREATOR and DARKNESS. The trio around Aggressor, Bonebreaker and Terrorizer, however, acts a bit more blackened and so "Deathstroke", the almost 32-minute debut album wrecking ball, is more comparable to "In The Sign Of Evil" and "Obsessed By Cruelty". Nevertheless, the disc is fun all the way through and, despite the strong 1980s vibe, sweeps through the joint with a rather contemporary broom.The guys look neither to the left nor to the right, they aim brutal and above all fast frontal attacks directly into the pit of the stomach, consistently press the accelerator and let their engines roar loudly. From front to back, "Deathstroke" is an enormously powerful and determined record. The sound is pleasantly powerful, especially compared to the demo of the same title from last year, no unnecessary frippery, no trivial gimmickry, here it's all in your face. The icing on the cake is a nice old-school artwork and the meat loaf is ready.But instead of just copying last year's massacre, SPHINX picked out the sultanas from five demos so far, gave the bombardment an appealing order and starting with 'Ruthless Power' over the title hail, 'Deadly Speed' and 'Pounding Death' up to the closing double firework 'T.A.T.E.T.S.'/'Siegfriedline', shreds, sparks, riffs and the double bass fly equally. Sometimes Aggressor passes the mic in the examples mentioned, sometimes a hint of melody shimmers through the songs, but the neck muscles remain in constant motion. All in all, "Deathstroke" is a strong quasi-debut and confirms my thesis that in Black'n'Speed Metal, less is sometimes more.
