Bio:
Fall Out Boy is an American rock band formed in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, in 2001. The band consists of vocalist/guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman, and drummer Andy Hurley. The band originated from Chicago's hardcore punk scene, with which Wentz was heavily involved. The group was formed by Wentz and Trohman as a pop punk side project of their respective hardcore bands, and Stump joined shortly thereafter. The group went through a succession of drummers before landing Hurley and recording their debut album, Take This to Your Grave (2003), which became an underground success and helped the band gain a dedicated fanbase through heavy touring, as well as some moderate commercial success. With Wentz as the band's lyricist and Stump as the primary composer, the band's 2005 major-label breakthrough, From Under the Cork Tree, produced two hit singles, "Sugar, We're Goin Down" and "Dance, Dance", and went double platinum, transforming the group into superstars and making Wentz a celebrity and tabloid fixture. Fall Out Boy received a Best New Artist nomination at the 2006 Grammy Awards. Their 2007 follow-up, Infinity on High, landed at number one on the Billboard 200 with 260,000 first week sales. It produced two worldwide hit singles, "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" and "Thnks fr th Mmrs". Folie à Deux, the band's fourth album, created a mixed response from fans and commercially undersold expectations. Following the release of Believers Never Die - Greatest Hits, the band took a hiatus from 2009 to 2012 to "decompress", exploring various side projects. They regrouped and recorded Save Rock and Roll (2013), which gave the band their second career number one and produced the triple platinum top 20 single "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)".On November 24, 2014, the band announced the release of their sixth studio album, American Beauty/American Psycho, which was released on January 20, 2015 worldwide on Island Records. It was preceded by the Platinum top 10 hit "Centuries". The album peaked at No. 1, making it the group's third No. 1 album. While Fall Out Boy's music has been typically described as pop punk and pop rock, the band were generally seen in the mid-2000s at the forefront of the "emo pop" explosion.Take This to Your Grave has often been cited as a vital blueprint for pop punk music in the 2000s.
Album:
American Beauty/American Psycho (sometimes abbreviated as AB/AP) is the sixth studio album by American rock band Fall Out Boy, released on January 16, 2015 through Island Records as the follow-up to the band's comeback album Save Rock and Roll (2013). The band wrote music while on tour with Paramore mid-2014 and it developed into a new album. The album's release was preceded by the Platinum top 10 lead single "Centuries", released September 9, 2014 while the album was still being completed. The album's title track was released as the second single in the UK on December 15, 2014, receiving a radio premiere a month before on November 24, 2014. American Beauty/American Psycho debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 album chart, selling 218,000 equivalent copies in its first week alone and becoming the band's third No. 1 album. In support of the record, Fall Out Boy will play Soundwave in Australia and are scheduled for a UK tour and a co-headlining U.S. tour, The Boys of Zummer.Fall Out Boy began writing for their sixth studio album in the summer of 2014 while still promoting their previous release Save Rock and Roll (2013) on the tour Monumentour with fellow American band Paramore. Recording began soon after, with the track "Centuries" being one of the first songs to be written and recorded. By late November, all the songs were written and the album was 80% complete but still needed finishing. While making their previous album, the band was just beginning to realise that music recording methods have differed since their hiatus, but have fully embraced the changes for recording American Beauty/American Psycho.[14] Producer Jake Sinclair made the band realise that parts recorded as demos on laptops are able to make it to the final product.Since the release of "Centuries", the band stated that the album could be released as early as "Early 2015".Regarding its sound, bassist Pete Wentz described the new material as "David versus Goliath" that experiments with contemporary sounds infused with pop punk and pop rock. The album will have a new sound; Pete Wentz stated, "[Brian Hiatt] tweeted[,] “[The] problem with modern rock is it [isn't modern,]” something [I] and we had been feeling in general. [Rock] should not be relegated to a quaint little corner of guitar center for dads to find. [In] reaching out to sebastiAn we wanted to make something that was a throwback instead futuristic."[16] According to Patrick Stump, "All I can say is, some people will love it. Some people will hate it. The four of us like it a lot, so we're happy".
