Formed in 2014 by Sandro Giampietro, German Power Metal heroes STARCHILD are back. After the self-titled debut album, also released in 2014, with which the band performed at the WACKEN OPEN AIR and toured with EDGUY and UNISONIC, and the 2019 successor KILLERROBOTS, STARCHILD, consisting of Sandro Giampietro (vocals/guitar), Tom Nendza (bass ), Andi Pique (keyboards) and Sascha Barasa Suso (drums), are on the launch pad with their third strike BATTLE OF ETERNITY and deliver great songs with a fantastic new line up.The band name STARCHILD was inspired by a skull found in Mexico, whose origin is said to be half human, half extraterrestrial. The obsession with music has often catapulted the band into unexplored musical terrain without forgetting melodic power metal influences.The first two singles “Silver Rain” and “Tame” give a first glance what the BATTLE OF ETERNITY is all about. Stories are told, sung epic and energetic, played with virtuoso guitar and led by the melodic band through sound worlds full of dramatic turns. As if inspired by a journey through the universe, Sandro brought mysterious motifs to the studio in order to compose blaring songs. From the orchestral spheres of the “Speedmetal” song “We’ve Been Through The Fire” to the eerily beautiful song “House Of Ghosts” to the pounding “Battle of Eternity” other rousing anthems fill the room.

Basically, if you like old-school Power Metal, this is a slam dunk of a purchase that you certainly won't regret.Starchild is the latest project from German all rounder Sandro Giampietro, whose past work includes plenty of stuff with Michael Kiske (who also duets on one track here), Zillion and his own band Sandro. To be honest, Starchild may as well be his own band, as he does all the writing, singing, guitars, piano and probably makes the tea as well. Basically, if this is shit there's only one person to blame. Thankfully, this release is far from shit (although I hear he makes a terrible cup of tea).The music produced by Starchild is very palatable indeed. Packaged as Power Metal and deservedly so, it comes over like a delicious cross of mid-eighties Helloween and Iron Maiden, helped by the fact that Giampietro himself has a powerful voice that often brings Bruce Dickinson to mind. Add to that some galloping Rock songs that don't stop for breath, yet are filled with catchy melodies to die for, and you have an album that certainly stands out in the crowd.You can see why Giampietro has been rated so highly by his peers, as his guitar work and vocals shine throughout, allowed to do so because his song-writing is just as impressive. To be honest, it's a bit overlong at nearly an hour, but there are no duff songs on offer and I've listened to it plenty of times without getting at all bored. Basically, if you like old-school Power Metal, this is a slam dunk of a purchase that you certainly won't regret.

European power metal heroes Starchild are back. Mastermind Sandro Giampietro is delivering his third strike with awesome songs and a fantastic new line-up.Hailing from Germany's Lower Saxony region, Starchild was formed some eight years ago by vocalist and guitarist Sandro Giampietro. While Starchild has never crossed the Dangerdog Music Reviews desk, some metal fans might recognize Mr Giampietro. He was part of the one-off 2004 Mike Terrana project, Zillion. However, Giampeitro is perhaps most known for his association with Helloween vocalist Michael Kiske, his solo work, and his SupaRed project from the early 2000's. Starchild, then, is essentially, Giampeitro's own, self-directed, musical project.In 2004, Starchild dropped their self-titled debut album. Wherein they toured with Edguy and Unisonic (another Kiske project; seems to be a theme here), and appeared at the famous Wacken Open Air festival. Five years later, Starchild got around to adding a follow up long player, Killerrobots, which introduced another consistent band characteristic: changing personnel. Which brings us to Starchild's latest and third album, Battle Of Eternity, and a completely new band with Giampietro as the only constant.Considering his musical past and associations, Giampietro's Starchild metal sound is self-evident. Battle Of Eternity is not free-form jazz fusion or American hip-hop. Nope. The band offers straight-up European melodic power metal, centering upon Giampietro's vocals, guitar work, and song writing which are significant. As most constant Dangerdog Review readers know, I put a premium on melodic vocals and classic guitar work, read: guitar solos. Giampietro excels at both (to the former, he sometimes he sounds like his friend Kiske). Add the other elements of gallop and groove from the rhythm section, fine keyboard atmosphere and orchestration, and basic song melody and vocal harmony, and Starchild gives you the perfect melodic power metal storm.To which, Battle Of Eternity offers both consistency and variation. More speedy metal with groove comes with We've Been Through The Fire, Times May Change, and Battle Of Eternity (with a very strong bass line). Other tunes seem to temper or mix tempos, relying mostly on melody and groove, like Tame or The Land Of Ice And Snow. Alternatively, there's the shorter Error which turns more on melodic metal rock with strong vocal harmony, sturdy rock groove, and a catchy refrain. Roses is the anthemic ballad of the album. It's status secured by Giampietro's notable guitar line and emotional vocal performance.All things considered, Starchild's Battle Of Eternity is a fine and entertaining album of well crafted and executed melodic heavy power metal driven, among many things, strong vocals, fine guitar work, and solid song writing. Easily recommended.

The power metal band STARCHILD, founded in 2014 by Sandro Giampietro, has its sails fully in the wind. With their third album BATTLE OF ETERNITY, they made a more than impressive return to the power metal scene in 2022. After the very positive response from fans and the press, a follow-up was needed as soon as possible. Twelve hits are waiting in the wings, recorded by Sandro Giampietro (vocals/guitar), Tom Nendza (bass) and Andi Pique (keyboards). For the drums, PRIMAL FEAR, THE UNITY, ROCK MEETS CLASSIC drummer Michael Ehré, who also drummed on the self-titled debut album, was brought into the studio. Andreas 'Schüttie' Schütte is now an absolute master on the sticks. The new album MAGIC WELL does not stop at unexplored musical terrain. At the same time, the STARCHILD trademarks have been further honed. Melodic vocals, virtuoso guitars, grooving rhythms and perfectly utilised keyboards. Overall, the bandwidth has increased and there are also one or two acoustic surprises on board. For example, an emotional ballad that Sandro dedicated to a deceased friend. He remains true to himself in that the song always takes centre stage. The band is already preparing to present the album live. The first shows have already been booked for the end of the year.
