Bio:

Streets was an American hard rock band made up of singer/keyboardist Steve Walsh, guitarist Mike Slamer, bassist Billy Greer, and drummer Tim Gehrt. They formed in 1982 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.Steve Walsh had been in the band Kansas and Mike Slamer has been in several other bands, including Britain's City Boy.[1] He was also a session guitarist. Greer and Gehrt were regional players who had seen success with bands in Tennessee and Atlanta, respectively. Gehrt was working with ex-Deep Purple bassist Glenn Hughes when Walsh recruited him for Walsh's first solo effort, Schemer-Dreamer. Walsh had noticed him when one of Gehrt's earlier bands had opened for Kansas. The two became friends and eventually spoke of forming a band together. Slamer had never met Walsh until he showed up for the audition. "I decided that I wanted to move to America," says Slamer. "The kind of music that I wanted to make wasn't being played at all in England, so I came here."Streets made its debut performance at Charlie Daniels' annual Volunteer Jam in January, 1983. The band played on another band's equipment and only played four songs. The debut LP was released later that year on Atlantic Records."We got out there and proved that we could play," said Walsh. "We go out there and we did damn good. We proved to ourselves that we could pull it off and that we were on the right track. Starting over was very humbling. But we got a lot of good feedback to the album. We live every night and being onstage (was) very renewing for us..."."I wanted to form a democratic band," said Walsh. "I did not want to be a solo singer with a band of sidemen. I like being in a band... I couldn't have done (that project) alone. I needed the help of every musician involved. We were all of equal importance in the creation of the final song."The band later recorded its second album, Crimes in Mind, in 1985. Soon after, Streets disbanded.[1] A year later, Walsh rejoined Kansas.

Album:

The two excellent albums from Eighties melodic rockers STREETS featuring the awesome Steve Walsh (Kansas) and guitar master Mike Slamer (Steelhouse Lane, Seventh Key) have a brilliant remastered treatment by Rock Candy. We featured their ”1st”, now its time for the second album “Crimes In Mind” – simply put one of the Greatest Melodic Rock albums of all time.Fast forward ever so slightly to 1985 and the band’s follow up LP “Crimes In Mind” has production duties this time around being taken care of by the much acclaimed, and then man of the moment, Beau Hill. If Street’s 1st is a great one, then wait to hear the terrific “Crimes In Mind”.From the start with the wonderful “Don’t Look Back”, we’re blessed with another slice of commercial Melodic Rock / AOR heaven, showing a similar approach to the debut but with a bigger, slick glossy sound and a even improved songwriting. For evidence check out “The Nightmare Begins” or “Broken Glass” with the latter composition taking the form of a power ballad, and again it’s a tune that has me scratching my head as to how it slipped under the American Orientated Radar at the time of release. Unfortunately though I guess with the quality of ballads during the mid to late ’80s being of such a high quality songs like this obviously just got lost in the musical mire ever so easily.Slamer gets an opportunity to set his guitar ablazing on “Hit ‘N Run”, while all the other songs are extremely melodic, catchy, like “Gun Runner”, title track “Crimes In Mind” and the fun “Rat Race”.Although Streets weren’t the commercial success their label were hoping for, both albums should have been platinum sellers.“Crimes In Mind” is an American Melodic Rock / AOR gem from start to finish, absolutely imperative in your collection. The sound comes pristine out from your speakers with this 24 BIT digital remastered edition by Rock Candy, including 12 page full colour booklet, 2500 word essay, enhanced artwork, photos and new band interview.Forty years on, it really is time to get back on the Streets.
