DISTURBED's new album, "Immortalized", can be previewed in its entirety starting today (Friday, August 14) on iTunes First Play. The CD will be released on August 21 via Reprise.DISTURBED will hit the road next spring in support of "Immortalized". The trek kicks off on March 11 in Vancouver, Canada, wrapping up on April 10 in Memphis. The band will be playing smaller venues on this run, from Irving Plaza in New York to the Fillmore in San Francisco, in order to give diehard fans a more up-close experience before the group hits bigger venues.DISTURBED guitarist Dan Donegan told The Pulse Of Radio the band has some surprises planned for its live show. "One of the things we talked about is maybe just changing things up in the set," he said. "Besides the obvious songs that the fans want and some of the hits that we've had, I think we want to have a couple more tracks that the fans, especially the diehard fans, have been wanting to hear and maybe we've never even played live before, or we might have only played 'em a handful of times. So we might want to be a little bit more unpredictable."DISTURBED singer David Draiman told a Boston radio station that "Immortalized" contains the band's first-ever attempt at a love song. The vocalist, known for his dark and often pessimistic lyrics about human nature, said that a track called "You're Mine" was written for his wife Lena, adding, "It's something that I had not done, really, on any record, and it's probably DISTURBED's first attempt at, dare I say, a pseudo, kind of, love song. It's lyrically not as dark as you've come to expect from us."Draiman said that the album's closing number, "Who Taught You How To Hate", was inspired by becoming a father, explaining, "Children playing in a playground, they don't pay attention to the color of skin, or their religion, or what part of the world they come from, or how much money they have. It's pure, it's simple, and it's unbiased and it's beautiful. And that was definitely one of the things that my son showed me, and it's definitely reflected in that song.""Immortalized" follows 2010's gold-certified "Asylum", DISTURBED's fourth consecutive No. 1 on the Billboard album chart.

On 2015’s Immortalized, the headbangers in Disturbed made an impressive crossover bid with their stunningly evocative cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence.” So, pray tell, what will they do next? On Friday, October 19, 2018, they will deliver their latest chapter, Evolution, via Reprise Records, and all of our weighty questions shall be answered.You cannot be a Hard Rock/Heavy Metal fan today and not know the name Disturbed! One of the top-billed acts in the genre, Disturbed began their musical journey back in 2000 with their superb (stupefying?) debut, The Sickness, and we all immediately got down. Then, 2002’s Believe cemented the band’s status, allowing them to release four more albums – from 2005’s Ten Thousand Fists to 2015’s Immortalized – over the next thirteen lucky years, despite a four-year hiatus. Impressively, Disturbed has released five consecutive albums that debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, including them among the diverse and distinguished likes of Metallica and Dave Matthews Band. A band with endless accolades and experiences under their collective belt, they have co-headlined with KoRn, performed on Ozzfest, and shared stages with nearly every other Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band on today’s scene.Placing their indelible mark on 2018, Disturbed – Vocalist David Draiman, Guitarist/Keyboardist Dan Donegan, Bassist John Moyer, and Drummer Mike Wengren – are ready to return with their seventh studio offering, Evolution. Produced by Kevin Churko (Five Finger Death Punch, In This Moment), the 10-track album – which also comes in a 14-track Deluxe Edition – splits itself between largely generic, rocking anthems and acoustic-driven songs to appeal to your softer side.Evolution opens with synths that start the pulse into straightforward rocker “Are You Ready,” where Draiman begins the party with an invitation to remove your mental shackles, toss them aside. Clearly designed to appeal to Mainstream/Active Rock fans, “Are You Ready” holds something back, and ultimately lacks in grit so as to feel polished to a flat sheen.Next, Disturbed go political with the anti-war anthem, “No More.” Here, Draiman sings: “No more defending the lies behind never-ending war / It’s time to make them realize we will no longer be their whore.” The sentiment is great and getting fans on-board with opening their eyes to the government’s hidden-agendas is wonderful, as well. However, the song feels a bit dumb in its overly-simplistic approach, and, at times, the band seem to be racing ahead of and performing circles around Draiman, whose vocals can barely keep pace.On the inspiring “A Reason to Fight,” they go (mostly) acoustic to place the spotlight onto one of the band’s clear stand-outs: Draiman’s flawless, immensely powerful vocals. However, Moyer’s bass lines are allowed to truly shine here, as well. They crank it back up to edgy for “In Another Time,” a rocker that is exactly what one would expect from Disturbed and yet it still feels like the band are holding something back and not rocking to their full capacity. The dirty groove of “Stronger on Your Own” begins with an evil laugh before going sludgy, then opening into anthemic, inspiring choruses.Conversely, they go full-on acoustics for the uplifting sway of “Hold on to Memories,” a shoe-in for a graduation anthem, before they amp it back up for “Saviour of Nothing,” a finger wagged in the face of hypocrites who become everything they claim to stand against. Meanwhile, a steady beat and glittering acoustics hold down the fort of “Watch You Burn,” an edgy reminder that this world is dog eat dog and we practice routine Schadenfreude. Disturbed’s ability to inject a dose of hard rocking into the acoustic format is refreshing and provides a definite stand-out on the collection – and a reminder of their genius.“The Best Ones Lie” goes back to rocking out, this time with a generic reminder that everyone is full of it and relishing in their own drama. There are some political notes here, if you wish to apply them, and if not, that’s okay too. Ultimately, they end with “Already Gone,” where they mourn with an acoustic-driven ode to those gone too soon. It’s not exactly forced, but not entirely moving, either.However, Evolution does not end here: its Deluxe Edition continues with four bonus tracks and they are definitely worthwhile! There’s a flawless live recording of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence,” which features Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge playing the Art Garfunkel to Draiman’s Paul Simon. Draiman introduces the song while inviting the crowd to fire up their lighters and cellphones, and what follows is a must for any Disturbed fan and pure perfection.With a full-bodied Rock sound that harkens back to the band’s 2000 debut, “This Venom” goes gritty and is hands-down the best rocker on the album – making it fully worth the purchase of the Deluxe Edition. It’s followed by a Sam de Jong remix of “Are You Ready,” which almost entirely removes the band and uses Draiman’s vocals as the center of its electronic, flowy atmospherics. This time around, they end with the acoustic, emotional love lament, “Uninvited Guest,” a more intelligent and poetic offering with a sweeping, cinematic feel that is more beautifully sincere than some of the acoustic offerings in the album’s 10 base tracks.Evolution is split down the middle: half acoustic tracks that appeal to the band’s new legion of fans thanks to their chart-topping Simon & Garfunkel cover, and half straightforward rockers. While the album is fairly consistent in alternating acoustics and rockers, last we checked, Disturbed were supposed to be a Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band, and it’s the Rock tracks that are the weakest in this collection. Here’s the problem: Disturbed are trying so hard to polish their sound and “evolve” that they are entirely losing any of the ballsy grit that was what propelled them up the charts and into hearts in the first place. Rockers like “Are You Ready,” “Saviour of Nothing,” and “The Best Ones Lie,” just feel scripted and so over-produced as to be flat and entirely lacking in character. Which is not the case on the bonus track “This Venom,” so clearly the band are still fully-capable of rocking out with sharp, dangerously delicious edges.Considering that David Draiman has one of the most powerful sets of pipes in Hard Rock/Heavy Metal, it’s completely understandable that the band would wish to showcase this fact in their acoustic numbers. Fine. But, no matter the format – acoustic or rocker – the lyrics throughout Evolution are generally so vapid as to deplete that power somehow; as even the most stellar voice in the world loses some of its might when it is singing recycled clichés and generalized fluff. If you place tracks such as “Hold on to Memories” side-by-side with the bonus track “Uninvited Guest,” it’s pretty clear that, again, the band have the ability to be intelligent and poetic. So, why would go the opposite route?The bottom line? Evolution is not a bad collection by any means, but it certainly fails to grasp the massive potential of Disturbed and their myriad talents; it’s more of a side-step than a true sonic evolution. For these reasons,

Let's celebrate the 25th anniversary of Disturbed's debut album The Sickness.The 2-CD deluxe edition includes the original album plus a CD with B-sides, unreleased demos and rarities.The booklet contains new interviews with the members of Disturbed and producer Johnny K. The Sickness is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Disturbed. It was released on March 7, 2000, by Giant and Reprise Records. The album peaked at number 29 on the US Billboard 200, and spent a total of 106 weeks on the chart. It was Disturbed's only album to not hit number one on the US Billboard 200 until their seventh album Evolution debuted at number 4 in 2018.In 2018, The Sickness was certified five times platinum by the RIAA for shipments of over five million copies in the US, making it the band's most successful album.The Sickness was Disturbed's first studio release since the band's formation in 1994. Reflecting on the band's early days, lead vocalist David Draiman said in a 2015 interview, "People think it was like this meteoric rise. It really wasn't. We beat the hell out of ourselves for two or three years as a local band, our own self-promotional mega-machine, every band member in a different venue of the city every time a rock show would come through town, passing out our promotional material — cassettes, stickers, t-shirts, whatever we could. [This was] in addition to playing strategically where we thought it made sense and in addition to building our following on the south side of Chicago. So there was a long period of time before that and a lot of struggle in a city that wasn't conducive to hard rock and heavy metal. Chicago was an alternative town. It was Smashing Pumpkins, Local H. It was not metal. So we were blacklisted. We couldn't even play inner-city clubs. We weren't cool enough. We were too metal. That was something that wasn't considered cool enough. We had to force our way in."However, as the late 1990s brought a shift in focus in the rock industry toward a heavier sound, the band secured a record deal with Giant Records and Disturbed got their big break.Prior to the album's recording, the band sought to refine its sound. Lead guitarist Dan Donegan took a different approach than usual and adopted a style that did not incorporate guitar solos: "In the beginning, before we were even signed, I'd solo all over the place and it didn't really work, so I pretty much cut out the solos altogether until the last album or two. That's the way it's worked with us. Over time we've pushed each other to become better musicians," Donegan said in a 2011 interview with Guitar World.According to Draiman, it was challenging for him to become comfortable with writing about the personal themes contained throughout the album's lyrics, saying, "It's very frightening. Because here you go, you've decided to be open and bare a part of your soul to these people, and lay it out on a platter for them to observe. So until you know that the listeners are getting any part of what you're saying, it's incredibly frightening."With Draiman on vocals and Donegan on guitar, the two were joined by Mike Wengren on drums and Steve "Fuzz" Kmak on bass. Seeking help with the album's production process, the band turned to producer Johnny K, who had gone to high school with Donegan's brother. By the time work on the album had started, a bond had already formed and Johnny K had begun working with the band as the producer for their album. In an interview with Guitar Edge, Johnny K spoke about the process, saying, "They fought hard to get me to do their record. They didn't want to go to L.A. and make a record that wouldn't be any better than their demos. I felt that with a budget and time, I could make a record everyone would really like pushed them as hard as I could, and we felt successful before it sold one copy. All of that hard work, and the fact that they are such a good band, made it easy for me to get other jobs. People liked it and would say, 'Who did the Disturbed album? Let's get him.'"Recording sessions took place in late 1999, and on March 7, 2000, The Sickness was released; however, the album was not an instant success. The lead single from the album, "Stupify", was released in April 2000. " was actually a hard sell at radio," Draiman said. "It's not like it shot up. They worked it. Giant Records at the time, they worked it. They pushed it to where it got enough awareness that it did start to chart decently."The track addressed themes of racism and discrimination, loosely based on one of Draiman's own experiences. It would go on to reach No. 12 on the Mainstream Rock chart and No. 10 on Modern Rock and remains one of their most popular songs.It was followed by the singles "Down with the Sickness" in October of the same year, "Voices" the following November, and "The Game" in February 2001.
