During the second half of the ’80s Geoff Lieb was an already established songwriter in the American music business. Who? Geoff Lieb, which artistic name is Jeff Paris. By the time, Paris not only had over 50 songs performed by other artists – from Vixen to Jeffrey Osborne – but also a respectful career as main artist and solo albums released on major labels.Around 1987-1988 he joined colleague Moon Calhoun, a talented songwriter too, but also a seasoned drummer and skilled vocalist, to create a melodic rock project / band, and for that matter recorded many demos for shopping labels. Top L.A. Session guitarist Michael Thompson was part of the recording sessions / band.Despite the 3 musicians connections with the music industry, a record deal didn’t materialized. However, Thompson & Moon continued working together and recorded the next year the Michael Thompson Band now classic 1989 album ‘How Long’. And Paris, of course, continued as songwriter, session musician, arranger and with his solo career – some of the Moon / Jeff songs ended into Paris’ next solo albums.Since then, these Moon Calhoun, Jeff Paris & Michael Thompson demos circulated among fans under the name MOON OVER PARIS, a really cool idea, as the project / band never had a known name.
Jeff Paris (Geoff Lieb) - This American vocalist/guitarist started his career in the jazz rock group Pieces. He subsequently played with a number of similar bands on a short-term basis, and built up a reputation as a fine backing vocalist and talented songwriter. He worked with Cinderella, Y&T, Vixen and Lita Ford in this capacity and was offered a solo recording contract by PolyGram Records in 1986. He debuted with Race To Paradise the same year, a highly polished and melodic collection of AOR anthems, similar in style to Michael Bolton and Eric Martin. Wired Up saw Paris toughen up his approach. The album was typical North American rock and drew comparisons with Bruce Springsteen and Bryan Adams. However, both sets failed commercially and PolyGram terminated his contract in 1988.

Japan AOR Moon Collectors fans bootleg label has released this CD, MOON OVER PARIS, including these demos for all Melodic Rock / AOR fans rejoice. You can’t go wrong here: these are uptempo, catchy, joyful songs plenty of ’80s magic. Also appearing on the recordings we find the great Brett Walker (vocals & songwriting), Jan Kuehnemind (Vixen guitarist), Ricky Phillips (The Babys, Bad English), Tom Croucier (Michael Thompson Band), Greg Edwards (Corey Hart) and more.
