Hailing from Curitiba (Brazil), Landfall features former Auras singer Gui Oliver - a true deadringer for the legendary Steve Perry of Journey. The band's sound can be described as falling between classic melodic rock à la Journey with some slightly heavier influences, such as classic era Dokken, White Lion and Extreme."I'm really glad to be back with Frontiers with a new band and new songs in a new perspective. I believe this is my best album so far. I was really impressed when I met the band for the first time. These guys are truly amazing, gifted and very prepared to do this with me", says Gui Oliver.Landfall was originally started by drummer Felipe Souzza and guitarist Marcelo Gelbcke, who are childhood friends and have been playing together since they were about 15 years old. Some years later, bassist Thiago Forbeci joined up with them, adding new musical input and influences and the band decided to go in a new direction. They began writing their songs and creating their own music repertoire to work off of and it was during this period that they recorded a few albums together and performed several concerts around Brazil, including opening for acts like Glenn Hughes and Mike Vescera. Joining forces together, Gui, Felipe, Marcelo and Thiago created Landfall (formerly known as W.I.L.D.), a blend of hard rock, melodic rock and AOR.

Album:

The origins of Landfall start with Brazilian band W.I.L.D. formed by long time friends drummer Felipe Souzza and guitarist Marcelo Gelbcke who have been playing together since their teens. Bassist Thiago Forbeci joined them a few years later. The band cut a few albums and toured around Brazil. But when former Auras singer Gui Oliver (who may remind some people of Steve Perry) joined the band, gears shifted and Landfall was created. Now signed to Italy's Frontiers Music, the band drops their debut album, The Turning Point.Landfall offers listeners their version of classic melodic hard rock, ala the Eighties, sometimes with more metal edge, yet wrapped in AOR accessibility. With Rush Hour, Sound Of The City, and Taxi Driver, you'll find sharp riffs combined with some up beat and quick groove for fast rockers. Within Taxi Driver, at the two and half minute mark and before the guitar solo, you'll hear a fine bass line breakdown. For songs more on the AOR side things, yet still with the bristle and groove of hard rock, listen for Distant Love or Jane's Carousel. A softer ballad arrives with Don't Come Easy featuring voice, piano, and acoustic guitar before expanding and rising for a dramatic finish. For something almost completely different there's Hope Hill. The song is a rising AOR anthem, heavy in parts, yet with Gospel-like feeling in the vocal arrangement and chorus. An arena anthem comes with Road Of Dreams which moves and expands in the arrangement to a soaring guitar solo followed by a vocal and piano segue before rising to a finishing crescendo. All things considered, if you're a fan of classic melodic hard rock with AOR groove, you will appreciate and enjoy Landfall's debut album, The Turning Point. Recommended.

The band’s delightful MR/AOR sound can best be described as falling somewhere between classic melodic rock, à la Journey, and slightly heavier influences, such as classic era Dokken, White Lion and Extreme. With phenomenal musical and songwriting abilities and the golden voice of Oliver, Landfall is truly a welcome addition to the melodic rock genre.“This record definitely sums up the essence of who we are as a band. Being our second album, we were much more comfortable creating this music, so I think our personalities as musicians are even more apparent this time. As a band, we are currently living such a great moment and I think it has been reflected in our new music", says guitarist Marcelo Gelbcke.Lead singer and lyricist Gui Oliver believes that the new songs are stronger than ever and capture the best of each band member. “We know exactly what we want to say and the music we want to play. Also, Marcelo and Felipe were meticulous in every detail of the production creating a special atmosphere for the songs", he says.“In terms of writing and production, the entire process went smoothly, although we knew we would have a lot of work coming on our way. We did the whole piece in nine months. Even before we wrote the first seed of a song, we knew from the beginning what we should focus on and where to go. This makes a huge difference in the end. As we are self-producers, what you will listen to on the tracks is the exact way we want to sound. ‘Elevate’ is the Landfall's version 2.0. Joined in 2017 by the former Auras singer Gui Oliver, Landfall began writing songs that would eventually become their first album released by Frontiers Records, “The Turning Point”. As a songwriter, Oliver had previously written songs for several artists from the label, including Jimi Jamison, Bobby Kimball, Fergie Frederiksen and Issa. About Landfall, he said: “I was really glad to be back with Frontiers with a new band and new songs in a new perspective. When I met the guys for the first time, I was really impressed by what gifted musicians they were. I knew we could make some great music together." During the period between releasing "The Turning Point" and commencing work on the second album "Elevate", Marcelo Gelbcke, along with Semblant vocalist Sergio Mazul, wrote, recorded and produced the first Icon of Sin album, a heavy metal tour de force featuring the incredibly talented Brazilian vocalist Raphael Mendes. As for Gui Oliver, he released the debut Mayank album together with Alessandro Del Vecchio (Edge Of Forever, Hardline), Rolf Nordström (Perfect Plan) and Nicholas Papappico (Robin McAuley), another killer slice of MR/AOR.
