Engelke formed Dreamtide in 2001 with then former FW drummer, C.C. Behrens.The band was rounded out with Olaf Senkbeil (vocals), Ole Hempelmann (bass), and Torsten Luederwaldt (keyboards). Francis Buchholz (Scorpions) replaced Hempelmann for the 3rd album. Dreamtide is still active.

Helge Engelke is a German guitar player, composer, and producer most celebrated for his guitar work in the hard rock bands Fair Warning and Dreamtide. He has also employed his considerable guitar talents in acclaimed "studio work" and has guested on various artists' albums/CDs including vocals and guitars for his friend Zeno Roth. Herr Engelke was born on 24 September 1961 in Hanover, Germany. He currently resides in Altenhorst, Niedersachsen, Germany.Helge started playing guitar at the age of 13 and soon became obsessed with the instrument and music in general. To quote Engelke, "I listened to everything that was around. From Yes to Genesis, from T Rex to Mott the Hoople, from Deep Purple to Led Zeppelin. My favorite band was - and in some concerns still is - Rainbow. I really liked the mixture of heavy rock guitars with strong vocal melodies and powerful drums."The young musician was a fan of both Uli Jon Roth (then Ulrich Roth) and Michael Schenker so his early guitar preferences were the Fender Stratocaster and the Gibson Flying V.In 1996, Engelke was in a car accident breaking both arms. It took him approximately five months to recover and regain his playing skills, delaying the recording and mixing of Fair Warning's "Live and More".On 11 August 2012 Helge married long time girlfriend Olatz Ibarlucea in Llodio, Pais Vasco, Spain.

Formed by FAIR WARNING’s guitarist Helge Engelke and drummer C.C. Behrens as a side project, at the end of the Nineties DREAMTIDE grew so much that both musicians decided to give it a full development, and the band managed to be signed by major Melodic Rock labels Frontiers and then AOR Heaven, and Avalon / Marquee in Japan.DREAMTIDE released three stupendous melodic hard rock albums and some EP’s in the 2000’s, and now Engelke has put out by himslef this “Dreams Dreamt“, a personal selection of DREAMTIDE best songs but focused in the songs lyrics related to ‘dreams’.Since the band name, there always has been some kind of a ‘concept’ into their music revolving around ‘dreams’. But what matters here is the terrific set of pristine melodic hard rock songs on offer.“Dreams Dreamt” was silently released few weeks ago and Engelke didn’t prepared a press release, but listening to this album and comparing the tracks with the original releases, seems to be some re-mixes or at least a new mastering on many songs.Highly Recommended timeless top melodic rock.

Dreamtide is still active.The current line-up includes long time members Senkbeil, Luederwaldt and Engelke alongside newbies Lars Lehmann (from works with UFO to Uli Roth, everything in between and beyond) plus drummer Horst Guntram Schlag (who somehow managed to lead a hidden life up to now).“DRAMA DUST DREAM“, the fourth studio album, to be released in early summer 2022 is a 12 or 17 (EP version) track effort of nothing less than saving rock music's hide from programmed instruments, careless production, micro genres, quantised beats and oblivion. Dreamtide's goal did not change over the years. Music committed to songs in a tradition of rock music which has it's roots in the early seventies or late sixties. The bands and records Helge was part of, among others Zeno and Fair Warning, helped shaping what became commonly known as “melodic rock” throughout the 80s and 90s. For a very short period of time that was an appropriate name, but it soon became a term often misused for cheesy, shallow, candy sweet crap and musical mischief. In contemporary politics you'd say: “We dissociate ourselves unambiguously from these actions” Or in less complicated words: Dreamtide are here to set things straight, you get the real McCoy, which in German is the real Jacob, curious what that will be in Japanese.

DREAMTIDE, the other band of Fair Warning guitarist Helge Engelke, graced us past year with a comeback album after long time freezed: the enjoyable ‘Drama Dust Dream’. The deluxe Japanese release included an exclusive bonus CD titled “Epic Dreamdust“, now finally available world-wide 2023.Including long time members Olaf Senkbeil (lead vocals) and Torsten Luederwaldt (keyboards, vocals) alongside newbies bassist Lars Lehmann (known from works with UFO to Uli Roth, everything in between and beyond) plus drummer Horst Guntram Schlag, the band recorded these extra songs with the same melodic hard rock feeling of the a main album.Despite the line up changes, the sound and core values of DREAMTIDE remain the same with Lehmann and Schlag seamlessly slotting into their positions and seem to have instantly forged a great rapport. Engelke shows himself to be the master guitarist we all know with some beautifully soloing and there is a great touch of acoustics into the mix on “Epic Dreamdust” which shows another dimension of the band’s repertoire.The production is exemplary (same sessions from ‘Drama Dust Dream’), clear and precise, honoring the remarkable technique of the musicians and reinforces the purity of the melodic lines which abound in this opus.
