Molly Hatchet is an American Southern hard rock band formed by guitarist Dave Hlubek in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1971. The band is best known for their 1979 hit song "Flirtin' with Disaster".Molly Hatchet is an American Southern rock band from Jacksonville, Florida. Originally formed in 1971 by guitarist Dave Hlubek, the group's early years were characterized by regular personnel changes and sporadic performances, with no stable lineup in place. By 1976, the band had been officially reformed with a lineup of Hlubek, Steve Holland and Duane Roland on guitars, Danny Joe Brown on vocals, Banner Thomas on bass and Bruce Crump on drums. The current lineup of Molly Hatchet includes keyboardist John Galvin (who originally joined in 1984), guitarist Bobby Ingram (since 1987), drummer Shawn Beamer (since 2001), bassist Tim Lindsey (since 2004) and vocalist Jimmy Elkins (since 2019).

Album:

Molly Hatchet is the self-titled debut album by American southern rock band Molly Hatchet, released in 1978 (see 1978 in music). The cover is a painting by Frank Frazetta entitled "The Death Dealer". Starting off both the album itself and the recording career of the band, the first song famously begins with lead singer Danny Joe Brown growling "Hell yeah!"."Dreams I'll Never See" is a cover of The Allman Brothers Band's song "Dreams" from their debut album, via Buddy Miles's reworking of the song from Them Changes (1970).By the mid-1970s, the southern rock sound had been well and truly established by the likes of the Allman Brothers Band, the Outlaws and, most prominently, Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was a style that seemed resistant to change but with the release of MOLLY HATCHET‘s debut album in 1978, that tradition was challenged by a bigger, louder and harder sound that introduced elements of contemporary hard rock into the mix. Now Rock Candy is bringing a fresh remastered version of this classic, plus the rare, promo only LP ‘Molly Hatchet Live’ as bonus tracks.Indeed, Hatchet’s debut album signaled a new, supercharged, approach to old school blues and country music. Formed in Jacksonville, Florida, 1971, and led by guitarist Dave Hlubek, Molly Hatchet finally settled on their classic line-up in 1977 and signed to Epic Records by A&R man and in- house record producer Tom Werman.Skynyrd leader Ronnie Van Zant heard and liked the band early on and was originally scheduled to produce their debut but his tragic death in the infamous plane crash scuppered that idea. With Danny Joe Brown on vocals and two further guitarists to beef up the sound, the band relied on the more than capable Werman to assume the producer’s role.Released in 1978, the album single-handedly reset the southern rock template, introducing a raw and aggressive edge to the scene which won them immediate support and unexpectedly large sales.

Album:

Beatin' the Odds is the third studio album by American southern rock band Molly Hatchet, released in 1980. This is the first album with new vocalist Jimmy Farrar, who replaced Danny Joe Brown.[3] A remastered edition of the album was issued in 2
008 by Rock Candy Records, with four live bonus tracks and extensive liner notes. The remastering was directed by famous British producer Jon Astley. The album was also reissued under the SPV/Steamhammer label in 2013 and only included the original tracks. With the new remaster of MOLLY HATCHET‘s self-titled album, let’s give a listen to this Rock Candy remaster of the band’s third album “Beatin’ The Odds“, including 4 bonus tracks. This disc has become pretty hard to find, even it isn’t featured at Rock Candy’s website anymore.Originally released in 1980, ”Beatin’ The Odds” was MOLLY HATCHET’s first album with new vocalist Jimmy Farrar (original vocalist Danny Joe Brown would be back within a year). Again produced by magician Tom Werman, ”Beatin’ The Odds” is one of the best MOLLY HATCHET albums: rockin’, kickin’ n’ hot.As usual, the sound quality is excellent sound-shaped from 24-bit digital technology by Jon Astley, including 16 page full colour booklet featuring original and enhanced artwork. The cover art for the album was "Conan the Conqueror" by Frank Frazetta.

Album:

One of the bands that really reminds me of discovering 70’s Rock back in my youth via my mate’s brother’s extensive record collection is Molly Hatchet. As a kid I loved just looking at the album covers while the Southern Rock and Boogie played in the background. The album that did it for me was ‘Flirting With Disaster’ and if I have to go further the song ‘Boogie No More’ a song I still never tire of really tipped me over the edge. It just seemed like a song that was really just a huge guitar solo and something like I’d never heard before. My only disappointment here is that ‘Boogie No More’ fails to find a place on this 2 CD, or 3 LP gatefold vinyl live outing. All the rest of the songs that built this bands wonderful reputation though are present and correct and this album is a real treat from start to finish reminding you just why Hatchet deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as their more illustrious Jacksonville contemporaries.Starting out with the mighty double-hit of ‘Bounty Hunter’ and ‘Whiskey Man’ should be all fans and newbies need and the patriotic ‘Son of the South’ and ‘American Pride’ tell you where these boys are coming from. There are of course moments of great depth and emotion like ‘Fall of the Peacemakers’ and also of course some wonderful boogie in the shape of ‘Beatin’ The Odds’ and ‘Flirtin’ With Disaster.’ It’s the wonderful rendition of the epic ballad ‘Dreams I’ll Never See’ though that tips this from being just a very good album to a great one.I’m sure Phil McCormack, who sadly passed this year will be looking down and enjoying the look on people’s faces when they hear this. His swansong was recorded in Pratteln, Switzerland, in Ludwigsburg, Germany, and during Molly Hatchet’s 40th anniversary tour of the United States.
