Lovell's Blade formed when several members split from long-running metal band, Picture. Those members included Pete Lovell (vocals), Mike Ferguson (guitar) and Andre Wullems (guitar), who then teamed up with Patrick Velis (bass) and Noel van Eersel (drums) to form this new act. Debut album "Stone Cold Steel" was recorded and mixed by Serge Naberman at Claim To Fame Studios.Divebomb Records owner, Matthew Rudzinski, states: "After having previously worked with Pete Lovell on reissuing his music endeavors with Picture and Emergency it only made sense that we help to promote this brand new chapter. We look forward to bringing Lovell's Blade to music fans all over North America this winter."Into The LimeLight Records owner Harm Kindt adds: "We were very keen to sign Pete's new band. As Dutch label we are able work very closely with the band and are absolutely convinced that this record will be a big success. The experience and quality of all individual musicians and the fact that there is a big world wide interest in the band makes it a very exciting project. We are also looking forward to work together with Divebomb Records."The release of "Stone Cold Steel" will coincide with a new video clip and a number of European dates starting beginning 2017. A South American tour is being planned by Open The Road tour promoters for the second half of 2017.

Apparently there's been trouble in the ranks of legendary Dutch hard rock and heavy metal band Picture. Pete Lovell (vocals) bailed from the band in 2016 to form his new act Lovell's Blade, taking Mike Ferguson (guitar) and Andre Wullems (guitar) with him. They're joined by Patrick Velis (bass) and Noel van Eersel (drums). Lovell and company didn't waste time writing their new debut album, Stone Cold Steel. (By the way, Picture continues with their original line up.Suffice to say, Lovell's Blade doesn't stray far from their roots with this new material. Essentially, they still play melodic heavy metal with a significant rock groove. There's some brisk heavy riffage and some solid blistering solos. The rhythm section delivers a deep and thundering undercurrent, yet adds rock groove. Then you have Lovell's clean, melodic, yet raspy and whiskey soaked vocals. That pretty much sums up the sound.As for the songs, I had some ambivalence to the album at the start with Legend In A Day and Dynamite, which didn't connect with me, and still haven't. They simply seem generic and bland. But things got much better with Rollin' On, a storming rocker and groove monster, and very catchy. The songs that followed, such as Devil's Daughter, Nothing To Lose, the speedy Out For Blood, and the arena anthem Rise And Fall, also turned up the rhythm and groove, yet delivering more AOR sensibility as well. Into The Sun was something of anthemic ballad, rather long at that, making it a bit tiring. But the guitar solo soared. Then unexpectedly with the last two songs, Inside Out and As Much As I Can, my ambivalence returned and I lost interest. Counting that out, I mostly liked the middle five songs, with Into The Sun getting an honorable mention. Nevertheless, with Stone Cold Steel, Lovell's Blade delivers classic hard and heavy melodic rock goods, and fans of the same should explore this album.Recommended.

Lovell’s Blade is the band consisting of former Picture band members that deviated after the Dutch longest running metal band rifted in 2016. Upon the release of their debut offering `Stone Cold Steel’, the troop around vocalist Pete Lovell toured continuously, growing as a band, ready for a new album to be recorded. The fruit of their labor is this brand new `The Nightmare Begins’, and it links to their past as well as it moves forward with stride.With Pete Lovell at the helm, Picture recorded the excellent `Eternal Dark’ and `Traitor’, followed by their reunion albums `Old Dogs New Tricks’ and the much better `Warhorse’. With the band’s original and most epic recording line up reuniting, Lovell moved on tagging along Picture’s ‘next gen’ members recording the debut choke full of the classic Picture ingredients. This second album contains more of the obvious, though Lovell’s Blade also drifts into more melodic sideways. Though Lovell himself is not the most memorable voice in metal history, he still roars fiercely and powerful. It’s that binding characteristic that revives the Picture `Eternal Dark’ vibe frequently and moves more melodic on numerous occasions. It is exactly what matches the Blade that cuts so razor-sharp. The outcome is a genuine classic metal album deeply rooted in the 80s, drawing from a wide variety of heroes and keeping that spirit alive. Not renewing, not pretentious. No knock offs either, but plain and simple melodic rocking metal delivered by seasoned musicians. The ‘all star’ line up delivers a powerful performance with a spotlight on the guitar tandem of Mike Furgeson and Andre Wullems. Tasteful solos and powerful executed riffs propel Lovell’s Blade forward, unloading a true 80s vibe. Patrick Velis (bass) and drummer Noel van Eersel lay down a solid and loud foundation to build upon. Like I said: power and passion over all, no weak moments to be spotted.Standout tracks are the riff driven ,,Take The Long Way Home”, copied almost one on one on the following ,,Behind The Curve”. The powerful and melodic hymn ,,Promise Me Pain”, with its stop ’n go riffs pushing lyrical agony forward, is sublime and an instant favor. Wonderful is intriguing and multi layered ,,Tangled Web”, a song that distils melodic with low pace and slick chorus. Insanely nesting melodies and outlined with psychedelic vocals, reminiscent to King’s X and eighties heralded Electric Love Boys. The song has a powerful urge to it and more than once throws you off with its powerful melodic deliverance and slick melodies. Likely impressive is the earworm title track, with its rolling drums and excellent twin guitar harmonies. More roaring and metal packing are the energetic ,,Against The Grain” and the double bass kicking ,,Make My Day”, as is the blunt hooked and progressive drummed ,,Alien Dictator”. Lovell’s Blade moves forward in a more melodic direction without discarding their past metallic shine. `The Nightmare Begins’ is an album full of ear mingling choruses and melodies, which makes their debut looking pale around its nose. The production by Serge Naberman is crystal clear bringing out the musical detail and dynamics, adding to the pleasure of the album. With Lovell aware of his vocal weak spots, he keenly dismissed pitches and stretches not matching his register. Thus his powerful gritty voice stands tall as flagship of the band.

No Dust Records has announced the European release of the 3rd full album from Dutch rockers Lovell’s Blade titled ‘Deadly Nightshade‘ on April 1, 2022.The cd will be distributed in the United States via Animated Insanity Records.Lovell’s Blade was formed in 2016 when several members split from long-running metal band, Picture. Those members included legendary heavy metal vocalist Pete Lovell, guitarists Mike Ferguson and Andre Wullems, who then teamed up with bassist Patrick Velis and drummer Noel van Eersel to form the new band.Their debut album ‘Stone Cold Steel‘ was recorded and mixed by Serge Naberman at the prestigious Claim To Fame Studios and was released in March 2017 by Divebomb Records in North America, Into The LimeLight Records in Europe/ Asia and Classic Metal in South America.Their second album entitled ‘The Nightmare Begins‘ was released early 2019 by No Dust Records. They have been performing continuously since and shared the stage with bands such as Thunder and Armored Saint.Their third album ‘Deadly Nightshade‘ was written in December of 2019 through to January 2020 but due to the Covid-19 pandemic and dealing with personal tragic events, the band could only start recording in 2021. The album was recorded and mixed at Headvillage Studio (owned by their drummer, Noel) and mastered by Erwin Hermsen at Toneshed Recording Studio.The album is once again a varied selection of power rock themes and consists of a wide scope of writing styles, keeping the album interesting from start to finish. ‘Deadly Nightshade‘ cements their position as one of the most innovative power rock bands available at this present time.
